  • This study aims at designing and evaluating light source devices that can stably generate light with various wavelengths in order to make possible PDD using a photosensitizer and diagnosis using auto-fluorescence. The light source was a Xenon lamp and filter wheel, composed of an optical output control through Iris and filters with several wavelength bands. It also makes the inducement of auto-fluorescence possible because it is designed to generate a wavelength band of 380-420nm, 430-480nm, and 480-560nm. The transmission part of the light source was developed to enhance the efficiency of light transmission. To evaluate this light source, the characteristics of light output and wavelength band were verified. To validate the capability of this device as PDD, the detection of auto-fluorescence using mouse models was performed.

  • We have conducted a study to control the light-intensity distribution at the output end of a multimode optical fiber via estimating the transmission matrix. A circularly arranged Hadamard eigenmode phase distribution was implemented using a spatial light modulator, and the transmission matrix of a multimode optical fiber was experimentally obtained using a four-phase method. Based on the derived transmission matrix, the spatial phase distribution of light incident upon the optical fiber was adjusted via the spatial light modulator in advance, to focus the light at a desired position at the optical fiber output. The light could be focused with an intensity up to 359.6 times as high as that of the surrounding background signal at a specific position of the multimode fiber's output end, and the intensity of the focused beam was on average 104.6 times as large as that of the background signal, across the area of the multimode fiber's core.

  • This paper presents analysis of temperature and light intensity characteristics of PV modules with solar cell type. Taking the effect of sunlight irradiance on the cell temperature, the first experiment takes ambient temperature as reference input and uses the solar insolation as a unique varying parameter. Then taking the effect of the cell temperature on sunlight irradiance, the second experiment takes 1000W/$m^2$ as reference input and uses the cell temperature as a unique varying parameter. As a result, varying sunlight irradiance, the Cell-Type with the smallest change in output is HIT and the Cell-Type with the biggest change in output is a-Si. Varying the cell temperature, the Cell-Type with the smallest change in output is a-Si and the Cell-Type with the biggest change in output is Single-Si. And considering both temperature and light intensity characteristics, the Cell-Type with the smallest change in output is HIT.

  • We developed an all-fiber RGB laser light source module for application in an automobile head-up display. It is based on laser diodes and an optical fiber combiner that substantially enhances the flexibility of configuration and stability against harsh working conditions for automobiles. We coupled 13 laser diodes with optical fibers and merged them into a single output with a beam combiner device. Red (R), green (G), and blue (B) laser sources were employed to produce primary colors that were mixed into a white light output. An optical output power of approximately 1.5 W was achieved, and the color balance of the output lights was assessed based on the CIE 1931 color space. The optical output power was shown to be stable for over 160 h within an optical fluctuation of less than 0.27%.

  • In this paper, we investigated the effect of solar cell breakage on maximum output power of PV module. The test result using artificial light source didn't give any change in output power in case of crack near electrical ribbon. Also, there was a reduction in output power in case of increasing of crack area far from electrical ribbon. But, this experiment is under artificial light source test method. So, when such a PV module is outdoor for a long time, there would be problems on electrical output power and durability because of thermal aging phenomenon of solar cell breakage.

  • Photodynamic diagnosis(PDD) is a method to diagnose the possibility of cancer, both by the principle that if a photosensitizer is injected into an organic tissue, it is accumulated in the tissue of a malignant tumor selectively after a specific period, and by a comparison of the intensity of the fluorescence of normal tissue with abnormal tissue after investigating the excitation light of a tissue with accumulated photosensitizer. Since the selection of the wavelength band of excitation light has an interrelation with fluorescence generation according to the selection of a photosencitizer, it plays an important role in POD. This study aims at designing and evaluating light source devices that can stably generate light with various kinds of wavelengths In order to make possible PDD using a photosensitizer and diagnosis using auto-fluorescence. The light source device was a Xenon lamp and filter wheel, composed of an optical output control through Iris and filters with several wavelength bands It also makes the inducement of auto-fluorescence possible because it is designed to generate a wavelength band of 380-400. To evaluate this light source device, the characteristics of the light output and wavelength band were verified. To validate the capability of this device as PDD the detection of auto-fluorescence using mouse was performed.

  • This paper investigates the light output characteristics of an electrodeless H-discharge lamp. The existing cylindrical fluorescent lamps were wound around with an induction coil of varying size, and were driven by RF power. The light output and the luminous efficacy were measured according to variations of the induction coil gap and the lamp power, respectively. The experimental results show that the luminous efficacy of the lamp is as much as existing electrodeless lamps and the luminous efficacy of lamps are high between 10W and 20W. Theoretical analyses using computer simulation show that the circuit matching is easier in the external coil configuration than in the internal one, and that the current and the power distributions near the coil are shower in t.

  • ABSTRACT -- Recently, a method of magnetically-enhanced discharge columns is considered to increase the luminous efficacy of discharge lamps, which is based upon the face that the diffusion motion of charged particles in the discharge column strongly depends on the applied magnetic fields. This study investigates the effect of applied transverse magnetic fields on the light output of low-pressure Hg-Ar discharge. As a result, it is found that the electric field in the positive column increases according to the applied megnetic field, which causes an increase in the total light output. And this effect is much more pronounced upon the spectral line originating form the higher levels.

  • Three plastic scintillators of 4.5 cm diameter and 2.5-cm length were fabricated for comparison with commercial plastic scintillators using polymerization of the styrene monomer 2.5-diphenyloxazole (PPO) and 1,4-bis benzene (POPOP). Their maximum emission wavelengths were determined at 426.06 nm, 426.06 nm, and 425.00 nm with a standard error of 0.2% using a Varian spectrophotometer (Agilent, Santa Clara, CA, USA). Compton edge spectra were measured using three gamma ray sources [i.e., cesium 137 ($^{137}Cs$), sodium 22 ($^{22}Na$), and cobalt 60 ($^{60}Co$)]. Energy was calibrated by analyzing the Compton edge spectra. The fabricated scintillators possessed more than 99.7% energy linearity. Light output was comparable to that of the BC-408 scintillator (Saint-Gobain, Paris, France). The fabricated scintillators showed a light output of approximately 59-64% of that of the BC-408 scintillator.

  • For increasing the output voltage, six SMD(surface mount device) type AlGaAs/GaAs solar cells were connected in series. The electrical properties of the array were measured and compared with one sun (100 mW/$cm^2$) and indoor light (480 lux) conditions. Under one sun condition, output power was 21.57 mW and it was $14.67\;{\mu}W$ under indoor light condition. Under the indoor light condition, the intensity of the light is very low compared to one sun condition. Thus the Voc(open circuit voltage) and Isc (short circuit current) of the sample under indoor light condition decreased very much compared to that of under the one sun condition. This kind of solar cell power supply can be used as a power source for ubiquitous sensor network (USN).
