Enormous interest in trivalent rare-earth (RE) ions activated luminescent materials has been gaining owing to their promising applications in bio-imaging, solar cells, white light-emitting diodes and field-emission displays. Among these trivalent RE ions, dysprosium (Dy3+) was widely investigated due to its unique photoluminescence (PL) emissions. A series of Dy3+-activated CaWO4 phosphors were prepared by a facile high-temperature solid-state reaction method. The X-ray diffraction, PL spectra, cathodoluminescence (CL) spectra as well as PL decay curves were used to characterize the prepared samples. Under ultraviolet light excitation, the characteristic emissions of Dy3+ ions were observed in all the obtained phosphors. Furthermore, the PL emission intensity increased gradually with the increment of Dy3+ ion concentration, reaching its maximum value at an optimized Dy3+ ion concentration. Additionally, color-tunable emissions were obtained in Dy3+-activated CaWO4 system by adjusting the Dy3+ ion concentration and excitation wavelength. Ultimately, strong CL properties were observed in Dy3+-activted CaWO4 phosphors. These results suggested that the Dy3+-activted CaWO4 phosphors may have potential applications in the field of miniature color displays.
Compared to one made of glass, an aluminum mirror features light weight, compact design, low cost, and quick manufacturing. Reflective mirrors and supporting structures can be made from the same material, to improve the athermal performance of the system. With the rapid development of ultraprecise machining technologies, the field of applications for aluminum mirrors has been developed rapidly. However, most of them are rotationally symmetric in shape, and are used for infrared applications. In this paper, the design and manufacture of an off-axis aluminum mirror used for a three-mirror-anastigmat (TMA) optical system at visible wavelengths is presented. An optimized, lightweight design provides a weight reduction of more than 40%, while the surface deformation caused by earth's gravity can meet the required tolerance. The two pieces of an off-axis mirror can be diamond-turned simultaneously in one setup. The centrifugal deformation of the off-axis mirror during single-point diamond turning (SPDT) is simulated through the finite-element method (FEM). The techniques used to overcome centrifugal deformation are thoroughly described in this paper, and the surface error is reduced to about 1% of the original value. After post-polishing, the form error is $1/30{\lambda}$ RMS and the surface roughness is better than 5 nm Ra, which can meet the requirements for visible-light imaging.
이들 카메라에 쓰여진 렌즈(촛점거리: 50mm)를 평가하기 위해 MTF(Modulation Transfer Function) 측정을 하였다.
In this study, we present a complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) binary image sensor. It can shoot an object rotating at a high-speed by using a gate/body-tied (GBT) p-channel metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistor (PMOSFET)-type photodetector. The GBT PMOSFET-type photodetector amplifies the photocurrent generated by light. Therefore, it is more sensitive than a standard N+/P-substrate photodetector. A binary operation is installed in a GBT PMOSFET-type photodetector with high-sensitivity characteristics, and the high-speed operation is verified by the output image. The binary operations circuit comprise a comparator and memory of 1- bit. Thus, the binary CMOS image sensor does not require an additional analog-to-digital converter. The binary CMOS image sensor is manufactured using a standard CMOS process, and its high- speed operation is verified experimentally.

For the research field of night infrared surveillance video, the target imaging in the video is easily affected by the light due to the characteristics of the active infrared camera and the classical ViBe algorithm has some problems for moving target extraction because of background misjudgment, noise interference, ghost shadow and so on. Therefore, an improved ViBe algorithm (I-ViBe) for moving target extraction in night infrared surveillance video is proposed in this paper. Firstly, the video frames are sampled and judged by the degree of light influence, and the video frame is divided into three situations: no light change, small light change, and severe light change. Secondly, the ViBe algorithm is extracted the moving target when there is no light change. The segmentation factor of the ViBe algorithm is adaptively changed to reduce the impact of the light on the ViBe algorithm when the light change is small. The moving target is extracted using the region growing algorithm improved by the image entropy in the differential image of the current frame and the background model when the illumination changes drastically. Based on the results of the simulation, the I-ViBe algorithm proposed has better robustness to the influence of illumination. When extracting moving targets at night the I-ViBe algorithm can make target extraction more accurate and provide more effective data for further night behavior recognition and target tracking.
We present a single shot low coherence white light Hilbert phase microscopy (WL-HPM) for quantitative phase imaging of Si optoelectronic devices, i.e., Si integrated circuits (Si-ICs) and Si solar cells. White light interferograms were recorded by a color CCD camera and the interferogram is decomposed into the three colors red, green and blue. Spatial carrier frequency of the WL interferogram was increased sufficiently by means of introducing a tilt in the interferometer. Hilbert transform fringe analysis was used to reconstruct the phase map for red, green and blue colors from the single interferogram. 3D step height map of Si-ICs and Si solar cells was reconstructed at multiple wavelengths from a single interferogram. Experimental results were compared with Atomic Force Microscopy and they were found to be close to each other. The present technique is non-contact, full-field and fast for the determination of surface roughness variation and morphological features of the objects at multiple wavelengths.
Holography is generally known as a technology that records and reconstructs 3D images by simultaneously capturing the intensity and phase information of light. Two or more interfering beams and illumination of this interference pattern onto a photosensitive recording medium allow us to control both the intensity and phase of light. Holography has found widespread applications not only in 3D imaging but also in manufacturing. In fact, it has been commonly used in semiconductor manufacturing, where interference light patterns are applied to photolithography, effectively reducing the half-pitch and period of line patterns, and enhancing the resolution of lithography. Moreover, holography can be used for the manufacturing of 3D regular structures (3D photonic crystals), not just surface patterns such as 1D or 2D gratings, and this can be broadly divided into (i) holographic recording and (ii) holographic lithography. In this review, we conceptually contrast two seemingly similar but fundamentally different manufacturing methods: holographic recording and holographic lithography. We comprehensively describe the differences in the manufacturing processes and the resulting structural features, as well as elucidate the distinctions in the diffractive optical properties that can be derived from them. Lastly, we aim to summarize the unique perspectives through which each method can appear distinct, with the intention of sharing information about this field with both experts and non-experts alike.
We report an application of full-field optical coherence tomography (FF-OCT) for identifying counterfeit bank notes. The depth-resolved imaging capability of FF-OCT was used for tomographic identification of superficially-identical objects. By retrieving the internal structures of the security feature (cash hologram) of an original banknote, we could demonstrate the feasibility of FF-OCT to identify counterfeit money. The FF-OCT images showed that the hologram consisted of micron scale multi-coated layers including an air gap. Therefore, it is expected that FF-OCT has potential as a new non-invasive tool to discern imitation of currency, and it would find applications in a wide field of counterfeit sciences.
A novel optical design for high resolution, large field of view (FOV) and multispectral remote sensing is presented. An f/7.3 Korsch and two f/17.9 Cook three-mirror optical systems are integrated by sharing the primary and secondary mirrors, bias of the FOV, decentering of the apertures and reasonable structure arrangement. The aperture stop of the Korsch system is located on the primary mirror, while those of the Cook systems are on the exit pupils. High resolution image with spectral coverage from visible to near-infrared (NIR) can be acquired through the Korsch system with a focal length of 14 m, while wide-field imaging is accomplished by the two Cook systems whose focal lengths are both 13.24 m. The full FOV is 4°×0.13°, a coverage width of 34.9 km at the altitude of 500 km can then be acquired by push-broom imaging. To facilitate controlling the stray light, the intermediate images and the real exit pupils are spatially available. After optimization, a near diffraction-limited performance and a compact optical package are achieved. The sharing of the on-axis primary and secondary mirrors reduces the cost of fabrication, test, and manufacture effectively. Besides, the two tertiary mirrors of the Cook systems possess the same parameters, further cutting down the cost.
Thanks to KMTNet's wide field of view, it is time to implement imaging survey of extensive area of clusters of galaxies in the southern sky with modern instrument. As part of potential long-term survey of nearby (D < 50 Mpc) well-known clusters of galaxies, we propose a wide-field and deep survey of Fornax cluster as a first step of the project. By imaging the 400 square deg region (100 fields) enclosed within the five times virial radius of the Fornax cluster, in three SDSSfilters(g', r', i'), we can provide an unprecedented view of structure of Fornax cluster using sample from giant to dwarf galaxies. We will secure galaxies with brightness comparable to the limiting magnitude (r'=23.1 AB mag) of SDSS. Furthermore, we also request extremely deep (limiting surface brightness of ~ 28 mag $arcsec^{-2}$forr'band) survey for the central region (16 square degree, i.e., four fields) of Fornax cluster. This will allow us to detect the diffuse intracluster light (ICL) that permeates clusters as a valuable tool for studying the hierarchical nature of cluster assembly. In order to complete whole survey, about 285 hr observing time (without overhead) is required. By combining data available at other wavelengths, it will offer unique constraints on the formation of large-scale structure and also provide important clues for theories of galaxy formation and evolution. Our proposed survey will be implemented in the close collaboration with researchers in various countries (Germany, Australia, UK, USA) and ongoing project (e.g., SkyMapper).
