Theoretical simulations of spatial distribution of charge carriers and recombination rate, and J-V characteristics of the multi-layer organic light emitting diodes are carried out. Drift-diffusion current transport, field-dependent carrier mobility, exponential and Gaussian trap distribution, and Langevin recombination models are included in this computer model. The simulated results show good agreement with the experimental data confirming the validity of the physical models for organic light emitting diodes.

Dot pattern print methods composed of a diffusion film and two prism sheets, have been generally used for backlighting systems of LCDs. However, this methods require complex structures and show high power consumption and optical loss. To improve these disadvantages of conventional backlight units, light guides using highly scattering optical transmissions (HSOT) polymer as scatters, have been introduced. In this study we analyzed multiple scattering effect in light guide by means of Monte carlo simulation based on Mie scattering theory and ray tracing method. As a result it was revealed that scattering intensity depends on the size of scatters. On the other hands, it was shown that scattering efficiency depends on the wavelength of fluorescent lamp as well as the size of scatters.
The effect of light scattering layers (400 nm, TiO$_2$ particle) of 4 $\mu$m thickness on the dye-sensitized solar cell has been investigated with a 12 $\mu$m thickness of photo-anode (20 nm, TiO$_2$ particle). Two different structures of scattering layers (separated and back) were applied to investigate the light transmitting behaviors and solar cell properties. The light transmittance and cell efficiency significantly improved with inserting scattering layers. The back scattering layer structure had more effective transmitting behavior, but separated scattering layer (center: 2 $\mu$m, back: 2 $\mu$m) structure (9.83% of efficiency) showing higher efficiency (0.6%), short circuit current density (0.26 mA/cm$^2$) and fill factor (0.02). The inserting separating two scattering layers improved the light harvesting, and relatively thin back scattering layer (2 $\mu$m of thickness) minimized interruption of ion diffusion in liquid electrolyte.

In this thesis we designed the vision system to inspect the defect of a back light unit of plat panel display device. The vision system is divided into hardware and inspection algorithm of defect. Hardware components consist of illumination part, robot-arm controller part and image-acquisition part. Illumination part is made of acrylic panel for light diffusion and five 36W FPL's(Fluorescent Parallel Lamp) and electronic ballast with low frequency harmonics. The CCD(Charge-Coupled Device) camera of image-acquisition part is able to acquire the bright image by the light coming from lamp. The image-acquisition part is composed of CCD camera and frame grabber. The robot-arm controller part has a role to let the CCD camera move to the desired position. To take inspections of surface images of a flat panel display it can be controlled and located every nook and comer. Images obtained by robot-arm and image-acquisition board are saved on the hard-disk through windows programming and are tested whether there are defects by using the image processing algorithms.
A microlens has been fabricated by various methods such as a thermal reflow, hot embossing, diamond milling, etc. However, these methods require a relatively complex process to control the microlens shape. In this work, we report on a simple and cost-effective method to fabricate a cylindrical microlens (CML), which can diffuse light widely. We have employed a slot-die head with the dual plate (a meniscus guide with a protruded μ-tip and a shim with a slit channel) for coating of a narrow stripe using poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA). We have shown that the higher the coating gap, the lower the maximum coating speed, which causes an increase in the stripe width and thickness. The coated PMMA stripe has the concave shape. To make it in the shape of a convex microlens, we have applied the thermal reflow method. When the stripe thickness is small, however, its effect is negligible. To increase the stripe thickness, we have increased the number of repeated coating. With this scheme, we have fabricated the CML with the width of 223 ㎛ and the thickness of 7.3 ㎛. Finally, we have demonstrated experimentally that the CML can diffuse light widely, a feature demanded for light extraction efficiency of organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) and suppression of moiré patterns in displays.
In exhibition spaces such as art museums, lighting should primarily illuminate the walls where exhibits are displayed rather than the floor. Commonly used LED lighting consists of an LED and a diffusion plate that closely resembles a Lambertian light source with uniform light distribution at every angle. This type of illumination focuses on the floor surface where normal incidence occurs. Consequently, this general illumination method is not well-suited for effectively lighting the wall surface. Specifically, to illuminate a wall, it is necessary to increase the light intensity in areas with a large incident angle in the light distribution. In response to this issue, our study proposes an illumination system that uses an ultra wide converter to adjust the divergence angle from the light source to 180 degrees.

In this research a ring light was developed so that a partial shadowless shooting for the patient's affected area at the medical treatment room and surgical operation room using high luminance light emitting diode (LED) for which attention is being paid as new lighting parts for medical purpose. LED which was applied to the development used high luminance three color LED for full color for which various color materialization and the adjustment of radiation intensity are possible and we can get white light in order to emphasize the delicate expression for generic tone of shooting object, strong highlight, simple shadow and three dimensional effect at the time of close-up shadowless shooting of the affected area. And at the time of design of ring light, the characteristics of LED and the loss of light at the time of penetrating light diffusion PC were considered so that intensity of illumination for over 150 lx can be obtained. The result of measurement of the intensity of illumination of the ring light that was developed revealed that maximum intensity of illumination of 225.7 lx was obtained, while smoke index was measured to be maximum 78 Ra in the case of Red(50%) Green(100%) and Blue LED(60%). We could confirm that response speed was also very fast as 1.72 ms.
In the system of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA)/dimethyl sulfoxide, the refractive index of polymer was very well matched to that of solvent and thus its scattered intensity could be minimized. After adding small amount of polystyrene latex particle (nominal diameter 200 nm), diffusion behavior of only probe particle was investigated against the concentration of polymer matrix by means of dynamic light scattering. The polymer concentration dependence of its reduced diffusion coefficient was able to be analysed with the stretched exponential function of the reduced concentration $C[{\eta}]$. In very dilute concentration regime, the depletion layer kept constant but at the early semi-dilute regime of $1{\leq}C[{\eta}]{\leq}2.5$, the concentration-dependent exponent of depletion layer ${\delta}$ was appeared to be -0.8 which was very close to theoretical one of -0.85. However it was also observed at the higher concentration that its layer thickness decreased more abruptly than theoretical expectation and this phenomenon was ascribed to Oosawa type attractive interaction between adjacent latex particles.

The superplastic forming (SPF) has been widely used in the automotive and aerospace industry because it has great advantages to produce very light and strong components. Finite element method (FEM) is used to model the process of superplastic forming/diffusion bonding (SPF/DB), to predict the pressure-time curve and to analyze the process parameter. In this study, process design of SPF/DB is carried out a 3-sheet sandwich part. SPF/DB process with pressure control was analyzed by using finite element method. For obtaining proper shape, step-by-step pressurization is proposed. The first step of SPD/DB process is obtained by applying of pressure in patches. From the next step it applied pressure to all regions (between inner sheets, between inner and face sheets). By using the proposed pressurization scheme, deficit in part shape is found to be eliminated.

Separation with synthetic membrane have become increasingly important processes in many fields. In the most application of membrane process, polymer membrane is used. the main advantage of polymers as a material for membrane preparation is the relative simplicity of this film formation which enables one to obtain rather high permeability rates. However, polymeric membranes have several limitations, such as high temperature instability, swelling and decomposition in organic solvent, et. al.. These limitations can be overcome by inorganic membrane. At the present time, commercially available inorganic membranes have pore diameters ranging 5nm to 50mm, and the predominant flow regime in such membrane is Knudsen diffusion. Since the Knudsen permeability is directly proportional to the molecular velocity, gases can be separated due to their molecular masses. However, this separation mechanism is only of important for light gases such as H2 and He. Other separation mechanisms like surface diffusion, active diffusion can play an important role only with very small pore diameters(2nm) and give rise to large permselectivities. Therefore, preparation of inorganic membrane with nano-sized pore have been attracting more and more attention.
