  • One cat caused a big wave in Russian literature. This cat revived the heroine of Russian classics. Her light breath was scattered in the world, in the cloudy sky and in the cold spring wind about one hundred years ago. And the cat gave an opportunity of turning to Russian classics to Russian readers. Thanks to this cat, a Russian dreamer changed his typical thinking, as well as many ordinary readers start to read works of creator of this wonderful cat. Pelevin accomplished these works with one cat, which he has made. Of course "Nika" is not only caused to make readers to return to Russian classics. I think, the cat and "Nika" are the symbols of writer's purpose in Russian literature. In this study the understanding of "Nika" is following the steps of realization of writer's purpose. In the second chapter it is analyzed to the textual relationship between "Nika" and "Light breath". Apart from existing analyses to be emphasized the succession of thematic aspect of two works as well. Existence of observers to each heroine stress this succession of thematic aspect of two works. In the third chapter it is analyzed the use of technique of mystification in "Nika". This intentional use of mystification has been demanded to read a "Nika" from another point of view(internal speculation of hero-narrator). The purpose of writer was to expose the cognitive error of a human being. I think this purpose was effectively explained by Pelevin's Buddhist world view which was introduced in his several works.

  • Capacitance-type alcohol gas sensors using porous silicon (PS) layer as sensitive film were fabricated to measure low alcohol gas concentration. Though sensors using porous silicon layer have show high sensitivity by large internal surface area, there is still much room for improvement to measure low breath alcohol concentration especially at room temperature. In this work, to discuss the response properties against exposure to organic vapor for breath alcohol measurements on the basis of experimental results. we measured the variation of the capacitance for the range of 0 to 0.5% alcohol concentration, and observed the improvement of sensitivity by illumination of UV light. In addition, the effect of CO2 and N2 gases involved commonly in exhaling breath was estimated, and the same procedure against methanol vapor was executed to compare qualitatively with the capacitance characteristics by alcohol vapor.

  • To do breath alcohol measurement, a sensor is necessary that it can detect low alcohol gas concentration of 0.01% at least. In this work, a capacitance-type alcohol gas sensor using porous silicon layer is developed to measure low alcohol gas concentration. The sensor using porous silicon layer has some sensitivity at room temperature by very large effective surface area, but there is still much room for improvement. In this experiment, we measured the capacitance of the sensor under 254 nm UV light on the porous silicon layer, in which alcohol solution was kept in a flask at 25, 35, and $45^{\circ}C$ by a heater. As the result, the improvement of sensitivity by illuminating UV light was observed. The increasing rate of the capacitance was shown to be double more than those measured under UV-off state. It is supposed that UV light activates response of the oriental and interfacial polarizations which have slow relaxation time for AC field.

  • Background: Migraine patients can be sensitive to external or internal stimuli, such as light, noise, or hormonal changes. Using transcranial Doppler ultrasonography (TCD) with breath-holding method, we evaluated the changes of cerebrovascular reactivity (CVR) to hypercapnia in women with migraine without aura between fasting and postprandial period. Methods: Twelve women with migraine without aura and the same number of age and sex-matched healthy controls with no significant history of headache participated in this study. Using TCD examinations, we studied mean flow velocity in middle cerebral artery with better temporal window. Each subject was examined consecutively before and after a standard meal, together with serum glucose level and blood pressure. CVR was evaluated with breath-holding index (BHI). Results: Postprandial-BHI (mean+SD) was significantly higher than fasting-BHI (mean+SD) in patients group but not in controls (in patient group; postprandial-BHI=1.38, fasting-BHI=1.08, in control group; postprandial-BHI=1.25, fasting-BHI=1.18, P=0.021 and 0.239, respectively). After meal, serum glucose level was significantly enhanced but blood pressure was not in both groups. Serum glucose level of patients showed a tendency of mild positive correlation with BHIs (${\gamma}$=0.448, P=0.032). Conclusions: Although exact mechanisms are unclear, cerebrovascular reactivity of some women with migraine without aura may be influenced by prandial state.

  • We presented a micro hemi-sphere structure flexible film to improve the external quantum efficiency (EQE) in OLEDs. The micro hemi-sphere flexible film was fabricated with breath figure (BF) method and replica process. At 45 mg/mL of concentration, the size of the hemi-spheres was approximately 6.2 ㎛ were obtained which are the most circular shape. So, it was possible to yield the best performance with an improvement of 33 % in the EQE and the widest viewing angle ranging from 0° to 70°. As a result, the hemi-sphere film's size and distribution seem to play important roles in enhancing the EQE in OLEDs. Furthermore, the flexible hemi-sphere film based on polymeric materials could offer an effective, large-scale, mass-produced product and a simple process and approach to achieve high efficiency in flexible OLEDs.

  • The effects of photoperiod, temperature, and fish size on oxygen consumption (OC) in the black porgy Acanthopagrus schlegeli, a euryhaline marine teleost, were studied using a closed recirculating seawater system with a respiratory chamber. Fish reared in indoor recirculating seawater tanks were divided into two groups: small (15.7-55.8 g, mean 38.1$\pm$15.9 g) and large (108.7-238.8 g, mean 181.8$\pm$54.9 g) fish. The OC of the fish showed a clear diel rhythm, with higher values in the daytime and lower values at night, in accordance with light (09:00-20:59 h) and dark (21:00-08:59 h) cycles. The OC of the fish increased linearly with the water temperature. The OC was the highest at 10:00 h, one hour after the onset of daylight and was the lowest at 03:00 h, six hours after dusk. The average OC at $20^{\circ}C$ during the light period was as high as 219.8 mg $O_2$/kg/h in the small fish and 156.3 mg $O_2$/kg/h in the large fish, while during the dark period it was as low as 130.5 and 110.4 mg $O_2$/kg/h, respectively. The OC during the dark period, which showed limited variation, could be regarded as the resting OC, and was 107.6, 130.5, and 219.8 mg $O_2$/kg/h at 15, 20, and $25^{\circ}C$, respectively, in small fish, and 52.3, 110.4, and 171.0 mg $O_2$/kg/h in large fish. As the body weight of black porgy increased, the OC decreased exponentially and the relationship was expressed as OC=1,222.8$BW^{-0.567}$, OC=1,113.2$BW^{-0.448}$, and OC=1,495.3$BW^{-0.468}$ at 15, 20, and $25^{\circ}C$, respectively. At a fish density of 14.5 g/L at $20^{\circ}C$, black porgy had the highest OC per breath compared to fish at the same density at 15 or $25^{\circ}C$. This suggests that the black porgy responds to the stocking density (15 kg/$m^3$) and water temperature ($20^{\circ}C$) conditions commonly observed in intensive aquaculture with the deepest breath and the highest metabolic activity.

  • A stepped bar with seimi-circular stress relieving groove near the fillet was subjected by axial tension in a polarized light field. On the stress concentration factor, the effect of the ratios of the fillet radius, the distance between two relieving grooves and the groove radius to the breath of the narrower portion of the stepped bar have been investigate. Observing the stress concentration in 48 models with various proportions, the conclusion arrived at were as follow: 1) If the fillet radius of the stepped bar is larger than half breadth of the narrower portion, the reduction of the stress concentrations can not be expected. 2) If the fillet radius is smaller than half breadth of the narrower portion of the stepped bar, the stress concentration can be droped to the reasonable range. 3) When the groove radius is larger than a quarter of the difference between the distance of two relieving grooves and the breadth of the stepped bar and smaller than a half of that, the stress concentration factors can have their possible minimum value. 4) When the sun of the breadth of the narrower portion of the stepped bar and twice of the relieving groove radius is smaller than the distance between two relieving grooves, minimum stress concentration can be obtained.

  • Physiological signals such as body temperature, heart rate, blood pressure and heart rate variability and biomechanical workload for stress analysis were investigated during the cherry tomato harvesting work in a greenhouse. The skin temperatures raised $0.05^{\circ}C$/min, $0.03^{\circ}C$/ min, and $0.08^{\circ}C$/min in standing, stooping and squatting postures, respectively. Breath rate significantly increased from 18 to 28 breaths/min during the cherry tomato harvesting work. As the heart rate during the work ranged from about 72 to 110 beats/min (bpm), the cherry tomato harvesting work appeared to be a light intensity task of less than 110 bpm. The worker's average energy consumption rate in three positions during 43 min working time was 65.74 kcal (91 kcal/h in 70 kg). This was a light intensity of work, compared to 75 kcal/h in 70 kg of basic metabolic energy consumption rate of a worker with 70 kg weight; The maximum shear force on the disk (L5/ S1) due to static workload in the cherry tomato harvesting work was 446 N in the stooping posture, 321 N in the squatting posture and 287 N in the standing posture. Acute stress index expressed with the heart rate variability, increased parasympathetic activation up to about 70 while workers were doing most agricultural work in this study. This study provided a system to measure quantitatively workers' physiological change, kinematics and kinetic factors without any restrictions of space in the greenhouse works.

  • The present stuby was carried out to determine if Radix Glycyrrhizae extract exerts beneficial effect against the ischemia-induced acute renal failure in rabbits. Radix Glycyrrhizae was known to reinforce the function of the spleen and replenish Qi, remove heat and counteract toxicity, dispel phlegm and relieve cough, alleviate spasmodic pain, and to moderate drug actions. It's indications are weakness of the spleen and the stomach marked by lassitude and weakness; cardiac palpitation and shortness of breath; cough with much phlegm; spasmodic pain in the epigastrium, abdomen and limbs; carbuncles and sores. It is often used for reducing the toxic or drastic actions of other drugs. Rabbits were treated with Radix Glycyrrhizae extract via i.v., followed by renal ischemia/reperfusion. Fractional excretion of glucose and phosphate, lipid peroxidation and light microscopy were done to evaluate the beneficial effect of Radix Glycyrrhizae extract on ischemia/reperfusion induced acute renal failure. Renal ischemia/reperfusion caused increase of fractional excretion of glucose and phosphate increased in ischemia-induced animals, which was partially prevented by Radix Glycyrrhizae extract treatment. Ischemia/reperfusion increased lipid peroxidation, which was prevented by Radix Glycyrrhizae extract administration. And the beneficial effect of Radix Glycyrrhizae extract on ischemia/reperfusion induced kidney injury was shown through the light micrographic observation. These results indicate that lipid peroxidation plays a critical role in ischemia-induced acute renal failure. Radix Glycyrrhizae extract exerts the protective effect against acute renal failure induced by renal ischemia/reperfusion.
