  • We evaluated the orbital elements of BV light curves of a short period RS CVn type eclipsing binary system UV Picsium that shows complication light variation, by analyzing with the Winson-Devinney's differential correction method. Because the analyzed light curves shows large light variation at outside eclipse region, we assumed spotted region of the primary component and calculated its position and size. The results show the UV Psc is a detached binary system of nearly the same radii and the primary component has high mass with high temperature. However this result is not consistant with customary stellar models, thus requires more observational data to confirm this problem.

  • Temperature-dependent current-voltage characteristics of organic light-emitting diodes(OLEDs) were studied in a device structure of ITO/TPD/Alq$_3$/Al to understand conduction mechanism. The current-voltage characteristics were measured in the temperature range of 8K ~ 300K. We analyzed an electrical conduction mechanism of the OLEDS using space-charge-limited current(SCLC) and Fowler-Nordheim tunneling. In the temperature range above 150k, the conduction mechanism could be explained by space charge limited current from the inversely proportional temperature dependence of exponent m. The characteristic trap energy is found to be about 0.15ev. At low temperatures below 150k, the Fowler-Nordheim tunneling conduction mechanism is dominant. We have obtained a zero field barrier height to be about 0.6~0.8eV.

  • Scanning white-light interferometry is an important measurement option for many surfaces. However, serious profile measurement errors can be present when measuring free-form surfaces being highly curved or tilted. When the object surface slope is not zero, the object and reference rays are no longer common path and optical aberrations impact the measurement. Aberrations mainly occur at the beam splitter in the interference objective and from misalignment in the optical system. Both effects distort the white-light interference signal when the surface slope is not zero. In this paper, we describe a modified version of white-light interferometry for eliminating these measurement errors and improving the accuracy of white-light interferometry. Moreover, we report systematic errors that are caused by optical aberrations when the object is not flat, and compare our proposed method with the conventional processing algorithm using the random ball test.

  • Photoelectric observations of the neglected eclipsing binary VZ Cep were made on four night during the observing season of 1984 at Sobaeksan Astronomy Observatory. The UBV light curves were secured incompletely with the gap in 0.35-0.75 phases. From the observations three times of minimum lights were determined in three band-passes, which formed one weighted minimum epoch (JD Hel 2446009.0453). With our observations, and improved light elements for VZ Cep is determined using all the photoelectric and CCD times of minimum lights published so far. The (O-C) resid-uals calculated with our light elements show small varying scatters which cannot be negligible. From the analyses of all the times of minima with the Scargle’s(1982)period-searching and a curve fitting methods, we found possible periodic oscillations of the (O-C) residuals with the period of 1. y26 and the amplitude of 0.d0032. These results, however, have to be considered as a preliminary values until complete analysis for the minimum lights of VZ Cep with enough observational data. Future observations of this binary system are urgently prompted.

  • A total of 920 observations (230 in ${\Delta}B$, 230 in ${\Delta}V$, 230 in ${\Delta}R$, 230 in ${\Delta}I$) for V523 Cas were made on 5 nights from January 6 to 24 in 2003 using the 61cm telescope with 2K CCD camera of the Sobaeksan Optical Astronomy Observatory of KASI. From our observations 9 times of minimum light were newly determined. Combined analysis of our new BVRI light curves with the double-lined radial velocity curves of the Rucinski et al.'s (2003) were made with the 2004 Wilson-Devinney (WD) binary model to yield new physical parameters of the V523 system. Small asymmetries in light curves were explained with the adoption of a cool spot on the hot primary and a hot spot on the cool secondary.

  • UBV photometric monitoring of Eps Aurigae has been made at Yonsei University Observatory since the 1982-1984 eclipse. Among observatios made in four seasons(1984-5, 1985-6, 1986-7, 1987-8) after the 1982-84 eclips ended the observations of the latest season are presented. Standardized UBV light curves of Eps Aur exhibit a light variation in a semi-regular fashion with the amplitudes of 0.12, 0.19, and 0.29 for V, B, and U, respectively. Duratiohs of this light variation may show a color dependency with the mean value of about 78 days whose minimum light on near JD2447118.

  • The UBV light curves of an extreme long period binary star 31 Cyg are made with the observations obtained at Yonsei University Observatory for three seasons from 1988 to 1991 and the RI light curves are also made for one season in 1990-1991. The new combined UBV light curves of 31 Cyg are constructed with You's and collected data. A preliminary solution of the light curves of 31 Cyg is made using Wilson-Devinney codes.

  • Light shelf is an efficient system that reduces the energy consumption by bringing the natural light down to the deep spaces inside of a building. However, the existing light shelves have limits in reducing energy usage, because the direction of the light flow is determined by the external environment such as the altitude of the sun and the azimuth. This current study presents a system that increases the efficiency of the light shelf by applying the Location-Awareness technology, in which the efficiency was verified through the performance evaluation. According to the examination of the technology for the Location-Awareness within residential space, 'Zigbee' type appears to be the most appropriate. The Location-Awareness technology operates the light shelf based on both the angle control axis and the light shelf angle control axis through the modularization of the reflector surface which is less affected by the external environment. The results of the performance evaluation showed that the movable light shelf that employs the Location-Awareness technology can reduce the energy consumption for lighting by 98.3% compared to the fixed light shelf and by 97.3% compared to the movable light shelf without Location-Awareness.

  • The UBV observations of Epsilon Aurigae from April 1982 to May 1985 had been made at Yonsei University Observatory. The light curves drawn from the observational data are combined with other light curves which are well fitted. In these light curves, secondary light variations, flare activity, mid-eclipse light brightening, and others are checked precisely. Contact times and time of mid-eclipse are determined and compared with the values which were presented on the other papers. Compared with previous eclipses, it is noted that the duration of totality is gradually contracted and the duration of total eclipse is gradually enlarged. Though these phenomena are applied to the disk model which has been more accepted than any other models, those are not explained explicitly. So, a new model, comet model, is suggested and is found to make a neat description to the phenomena revealed on the light curves.
