Wireless Visible Light Communication is the technology that enables communication using LED illumination Infrastructure instead of existing illumination such as incandescent lamp or fluorescent light. Because VLC uses light for communication, it has no problem of frequency permission and is harmless to human body. It is also possible to check the communication through eye. So VLC can be used as a supplement to the Radio Frequency communication, Infrared in indoor environment. So far, researchers on the LED Visible light communication have focused on the increasing transmission speed, transmission distance, modulation method. However, there is few research of main factors that influence on system performance. System performance has been mainly predicted through simulation. In this paper, I recognized that these factors such as outside light noise, obstacle, LED panel position or emitted angle have a great impact on wireless communication system. So I experimented VLC system by changing distance and position to discover location suitable for BER regulation.

In this paper, as a study of the simple visible light communication(VLC) with LED light, the visible light communication system that are made up with the $3{\times}3$ white LED array for visible light transmission, various photodiodes for visible light reception, and a non-carrier NRZ-OOK modulation scheme is designed and implemented to have a 115.2 kbps data speed at 2.5 m distance between transmitter and receiver. For the performance analysis of the developed VLC system, the maximum distance between VLC transmitter and receiver on the conditions of various transmission speeds, the number of LED array, or the various kind of LED and photodiode is obtained, and various performances are analyzed by experiments.

Visible light communication is a communication method using light, and it has advantage of ensuring security in a single space as compared with RF communication. However, in the area outside the visible line of the light, communication disconnection occurs. Therefore, this paper proposes a relay module to overcome the coverage extension and communication disconnection phenomenon of visible light communication. The proposed relay module transmits and receives data of visible light communication by sequentially transmitting data packets including target ID through adjacent visible light module. Through experimentation of data transmission, we confirmed the extension of the transmission range and the data reception in the area outside the line of sight.

An analysis tool for predicting transmission loss in high speed trains based on combined use of the statistical energy analysis and the finite element methods has been proposed. The analysis utilizes a commercially available numerical solver VA ONE with imbedded NASTRAN module. The proposed analysis tool is first verified by comparing numerically predicted transmission loss of a light rail transport(LRT) structure with experimental results. The comparison shows that the numerically predicted transmission loss is similar to the experimental data. The analysis tool is then applied to the prediction of transmission loss in the high speed train(HST) currently under development. Various sub-structures such as the floor, side panel and ceiling have been numerically analyzed to predict their transmission losses. The results obtained here can be used as input data for predicting the interior noise level of the HST at design stage.

Underwater images are very much different from images taken on land, due to the presence of a higher disturbance ratio caused by the presence of water medium between the camera and the target object. These distortions and noises result in unclear details and reduced quality of the output image. An underwater image restoration method is proposed in this paper, which uses blurriness information, background light neutralization information, and red-light intensity to estimate depth. The transmission map is then estimated using the derived depth map, by considering separate attenuation coefficients for direct and backscattered signals. The estimated transmission map and estimated background light are then used to recover the scene radiance. Qualitative and quantitative analysis have been used to compare the performance of the proposed method against other state-of-the-art restoration methods. It has been shown that the proposed method can yield good quality restored underwater images. The proposed method has also been evaluated using different qualitative metrics, and results have shown that method is highly capable of restoring underwater images with different conditions. The results are significant and show the applicability of the proposed method for underwater image restoration work.

Visible light communication(VLC) system based on LED devices has some specific advantages compared with RF system. First, visible light is harmless to human and there is no limit to using frequency band. Also, VLC system has good security performance, and it can use the very wide frequency band for data transmission. However, for simultaneously using the illumination and data transmission in VLC systems, degradation of code rate is occurred. So, in this paper, we proposed the novel line coding scheme for flicker free and efficient dimming control in VLC systems. From the simulation results, it is confirmed that proposed scheme has good flicker, dimming, and transmission performance compared to conventional variable pulse position modulation(VPPM) scheme.
A high-performance time-division multiplexing (TDM) -based multiuser (MU) multiple-input multipleoutput (MIMO) system for efficient indoor visible-light communication (VLC) is presented. In this work, a MIMO technique based on RGB light-emitting diodes (LEDs) with selection combining (SC) is utilized for data transmission. That is, the proposed scheme employs RGB LEDs for parallel transmission of user data and transmits MU data in predefined slots of a time frame with a simple and efficient design, to schedule the transmission times for multiple users. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed scheme offers an approximately 6 dB gain in signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) at a bit error rate (BER) of $3{\times}10^{-5}$, as compared to conventional MU single-input single-output (SISO) systems. Moreover, a data rate of 66.7 Mbps/user at a BER of $10^{-3}$ is achieved for 10 users in indoor VLC environments.

In this paper, we numerically investigated the optimum pump light power resulting best compensation of pulse distortion due to both chromatic dispersion and self phase modulation (SPM) in long-haul 3×40 Gbps wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) systems. We used mid-span spectral inversion (MSSI) method with path-averaged intensity approximation (PAIA) as compensation approach, which have highly nonlinear dispersion shifted fiber (HNL-DSF) as nonlinear medium of optical phase conjugator (OPC) in the mid-way of total transmission line. We confirmed that HNL-DSF is an useful nonlinear medium in OPC for wideband WDM transmission, and in order to achieve the excellent compensation the pump light power is selected to equal the conjugated light power into the latter half fiber section with the input light power of WDM channel depending on total transmission length. Also we confirmed that compensation degree of WDM channel with small conversion efficiency is improved by using pump light power increasing power conversion ratio upper than 1.

The light-transmission technique has been applied to a slit rheometer for measuring red blood cell aggregation as well as blood viscosity over a range of shear rates. For measurement of blood viscosity and aggregation, instantaneous pressure and transmit-light intensity are measured with time. Using a precision pressure measurement, one can determine the shear stress and shear rate. In addition, a transmitted light through a blood sample indicates degree of RBC aggregation. With abruptly flowing with high shear rate, RBCs rapidly disaggregate and the intensity of the transmitted light becomes low. When continuously flowing with decreasing shear rate, RBCs tend to re-aggregate and the corresponding transmit-intensity gradually increases with time. The light intensity as a degree of RBC aggregation is plotted against shear rate and compared with blood viscosity. The advantages of this design are dual measurement at a time, simplicity, i.e., ease of operation and no moving parts, low cost, short operating time, and the disposable kit which is contacted with blood sample.
Visible light communication technology is being studied and developed in various ways due to advantages such as high transmission speed, excellent positioning and higher security. However, existing visible light communication systems have difficulties in entering the market because they use special transmitters and receivers. We will overcome the difficulty if we develope a VLC system that uses a conventional LED light as a transmitter and a smartphone camera as a receiver. What matters is that LED lights include a scatter filter to prevent glareness for human eyes, but the existing VLC(Visual Light Communication) method can not be applied. In this paper, we propose a method to encode data with On / Off patterns of LEDs in the lighting with $M{\times}N$ LEDs. We defined parameters like L-off-able and K-seperated to facilitate the recognition of On / Off patterns in the diffused Lights. We conducted experiments using an LED lighting and smart phones to determine the parameter values. Also, the maximum transmission rate of our encoding technique is mathematically presented. Our encoding scheme can be applied to indoor and outdoor positioning applications or settlement of commercial transactions.
