LRT(Light Railway Train), which is a intermediate system of train and bus, is arose for the solution of subway construction cost and the transportation capacity of bus. LRT was introduced in 1980's. About 30 local governments are plan to introduce LRT or constructing LRT, at present. AGT(Automated Guide-way Transit) system, which is a kind of LRT, is operated without driver. Rubber wheeled AGT system can reduce the noise and vibration compare to steel wheeled AGT, so it is estimated as ideal transportation system for urban area. And live loads at bridge are classified as the static load of vehicle and the dynamic wheel contact load which is occurred from the interaction of bridge and vehicle vibration, and the surface roughness. In the case of AGT system, the dynamic increment factor of bridge is greater than the normal train bridge and roadway bridge, because, the weight of AGT vehicle is more light that the train of truck. The exact method for dynamic increment factor is experiment. But this method is needed much money and time, moreover, this method cannot be adopted in design. Therefore, a simulation program for the interaction of AGT bridge, vehicle and surface roughness was developed, in this study. And the program was verified by experiment. As a result, the accuracy of the simulation program can be verified.
LRV(Light Rail Vehicle) is one of the most useful way for urban transit. HDPIC has designed and manufactured the LRV train set for Manila Line 1 expansion. The LRV is composed of two carbody sections which are coupled by a articulated bogie. The articulated bogie and two motorized bogies have slewing rings in order to improve the curving performance and ride quality. Carbody structures are mainly made of low-carbon stainless steel (STS301L), and the carbody bolsters and draft sills are made of rolled steel for welded structures. The authority's specifications specified the design load conditions and weight limits. Design load conditions are vertical load, compressive load and diagonal jacking, and the maximum axle load is 10.7 ton. In order to meet those requirements, the stiffness and strength of carbody structure were predicted using finite element analysis during design stage. The half or full structure is modeled and analyzed with design load conditions, and critical areas are analysed in detail using sub-modeling method. The strength and strength of carbody structure was also verified by the load test. The analysis and test results show a good agreement.
In this study we examined the method to select the size of the conductor rail for light rail system. Study results shows that using the conductor rail with lower resistivity requires fewer power substation, which results in lower construction cost. It also produces less copper loss. Therefore first choose the conductor rail with lowest resistivity and select the substation location, Next conduct computer simulation study to confirm it meets voltage requirement. if the minimum voltage is well above the required minimum voltage, substation number can probably be further reduced.
Recently, the bogie frame weight of Light Rail Transit system has been reduced in order to save energy and materials. However, this light weighted vehicle structure is very important to verify the fatigue strength at the development stage. Bogie system consists of bogie frame, suspensions, wheel-sets, braking system and transmission system. Among these components, the bogie frame is most significant component subjected to the whole vehicle and passenger loads. In this study, the bogie frame for the New LRT power car is evaluated to the static and fatigue strength. And the evaluation method is used the LRT Performance Test Standards Specification throughout the FEM analysis and static load test. The static and fatigue test results for the LRT bogie frame of power car has been appeared very safety and stable for the design load conditions.
Since inaccurate demand estimation for recent urban rail construction may result in financial burden to cities, precise prediction for operating cost as well as construction costs is necessary to avoid or reduce budget loss of the local or central government. The operating cost is directly related to the public fare and affect a policy to determine the rate system. Therefore, there is a pressing need to develop an estimating model for reliable operating cost of urban railway. This study introduces a new model to estimate the operating cost with new variables. It provides a better prediction in accuracy and reliability compared to the existing model, considering the feature of urban railway. For verification of our model, railway operation data from a few cities for the last five years were comprehensively examined to determine variables that affect the operating cost. The operating cost was estimated in a dummy regression model using five independent variables, which were average distance between stations, daily trains distance, total passenger capacity of a train in a train, driving mode(manned/unmanned), and investment type(financial/private).

The railway signalling system plays an essential role in the headway and routing control for a safe and efficient train operation. The reliable and safe operation of the system is very important because the failure of the railway signalling system can lead to the collision, derailment, or unexpected stop of a train. So far, the conventional wayside signal mode (ATS: Automatic Train Stop) has been generally used as the railway signalling system. However, this system is highly linked to a risk of major accidents resulted from human mistakes such as missing a signal or careless control of train speed. Accordingly, the onboard signal mode (ATC: Automatic Train Control) as an alternative of ATS has been recently introduced and applied to transmit effectively the information on speed control of a train by using computers and communication equipment. In the process of replacing the obsolete signal system, it is necessary to switch over the system while providing passengers with normal services. Therefore, the integration of a railway signaling system compatible for both ATS and ATC and its interface is discussed in this study. In particular, the implementation scenario required for operation planning of the integrated system was designed, and the results as well as effects of its applicability test were also presented.
In this work, the characteristics of train performance of Korean rubber-tired AGT system(K-AGT) are evaluated by using TPS(Train Performance Simulation) and these results are compared to those of other LRT(Light Rail Transit) systems. The performance characteristics of K-AGT was analyzed by comparing the scheduled speed and the energy consumption in case of station interval change and rail track condition change in, the scheduled construction line. In the scheduled construction line, scheduled speed of K-AGT was no difference with other systems and energy consumption was less than other LRT's. In case station intervals are increased, scheduled speed of K-AGT shows similar increasing rate and in curved and graded track conditions K-AGT has no difference in scheduled speed with other systems. As a simulation result by track condition change, when the track which is smaller than curved line of 250m dominates more than $50\%$ in whole track, K-AGT is similar to other systems to the point of scheduled speed and there is advantage in energy consumption.

This study focuses on the effects of using open stator slots in an interior permanent magnet traction motor with a magnetic slot wedge design in order to increase the power density at its base speed. In addition, such a configuration reduces the torque ripple under field-weakening conditions. Five different wedge models were selected, each of which was evaluated using a finite element analysis (FEA). Based on the initial model, we designed magnetic slot wedges for maximum back-EMF and minimum cogging torque. In addition, the d-q axis inductance was slightly altered due to the magnetic slot wedges. Finally, we analyzed the performance of a traction machine under field weakening control. Moreover, we have outlined the requirements for an ideal magnetic slot wedge design.
As railroad industry faces the new Renaissance era, effective and efficient maintenance methods for rolling stock operation are required with advanced railroad technology. All kinds of railroad systems such as high-speed long-distance train, metropolitan mass transit and light rail require systematic maintenance technology in order to maintain the safe railroad operation. Simulation models for regular operations of the example maintenance center are developed. In this study, standard maintenance procedures, layout, equipments, and number of workers of Siheung Metropolitan Railroad Maintenance Rolling Stock Depot are considered. The proposed simulation models are developed using simulation package ARENA. After simulation, four types of observations are analyzed. First, the bottleneck operation is identified. Second, the relationship between maintenance center size, number of workers and cycle time is analyzed. Third, the scheduling performances between PERT/CPM and Critical Chain Project Management(CCPM) are compared. Lastly, the simulation results according to worker's working coverage shows expanding the worker's coverage decreases the cycle time and increases throughput per train. However, workers are to be fully trained to do multiple skill work.
Bimodal Tram is spotlighted for alternative public transportation system which have punctualness, efficiency, and convenience running between capacity of bus and light rail transit. It have the advantage of automatic operation system when it runs at exclusive right-of-way as like as railway, runs as same as a bus at road concurrently. However, concrete construction plan is not established since the law as well as government subsidy are not defined. For activating bimodal tram construction, this paper analyzed as below. 1) understanding obstacles of activating construction through current status of local governments' bimodal tram promotion plan, 2) finding essential elements for legislation through transportation mode characteristics comparison and system rules analysis, 3) related foreign law analysis.
