Light signals constitute major factors in regulating gene expression and morphogenesis in plants and fungi. Phytochrome A and B were well characterized red and far-red light receptors in plants. Red light signals increased the phosphorylation of 18 kDa protein, which was identified to be nucleoside diphosphate (NDP) kinase. The NDP kinase catalyzed autophosphorylation and had a protein kinase activity similar to MAP (mitogen activated protein) kinase. As candidates for blue light photoreceptors, cDNAs for CRY1 and CRY2 were isolated. The N-teminal regions of these proteins showed a high hornology to DNA photolyase. The 120 kDa protein first detected in Pisurn sativurn, which showed blue light induced phosphorylation was also detected in Arabidopsis thaliana. The 120 kDa protein was encoded by the nphl gene, which regulated positive phototropism of the plant. In Neurospora crassa, blue light irradiation of the membrane fraction prepared from roycelia stimulated the phosphorylation of the 15 kDa protein, which was also identifmd to be an NDP kinase. Recent progress in understanding early events in light signal transduction mainly in Pisum sativum Alaska, Arabidopsis thaliana and Neurospora crassa was summarized.
To predict accurately the thermal hydraulic behavior of light water reactors during normal or abnormal operation, the accurate estimation of the void distribution is required. Up to date, many techniques for predicting void fraction of two-phase flow systems have been suggested. Among these techniques, the drift-flux model is widely used because of its exact calculation ability and simplicity. However, to get more accurate prediction of void fraction using drift-flux model, slip and flow regime effects must be considered more properly In the drift-flux method, these two effects are accounted for by two drift-flux parameters ; $C_{o}$ and (equation omitted). At earlier stage, $C_{o}$ is measured in a circular tube. In this study, $C_{o}$ is experimentally determined by measuring local void fraction and vapor velocity distribution in a rectangular subchannel having 4 heating rods which simulates nuclear subchannels. The measurements are peformed with two-electrical conductivity probes which are known to be adequate for measuring local parameters. The experiments are performed at low flow rate and the system pressure less than 3 atmo spheric pressure. In this experiment, (equation omitted), is not measured, but quoted from well-known empirical correlation to formulate $C_{o}$. Finally, $C_{o}$ is expressed as a function of channel averaged void fraction. fraction.
Panax Ginseng C. A. Meyer which has been known for more than 2000 years, occupies a particular place in folk medicine as so called tonic remedy. The brief pharmacological action of Ginseng complied from the numerous reports can be summarized as adaptogenic effect to be increased nonspecific resistance. Among the various components of Ginseng, the effective components has been known Ginseng butanol fraction as so called Ginseng saponin. In order to study on the effect of the Ginseng butanol fraction which influences spontaneous activity by CNS drugs in mice. Experiment of response was measured the change of spontaneous activity by CNS drugs in which mice were treated Ginseng butanol fraction. A method of measuring spontaneous activity in mice used by counting the number of times which were interrupted a beam of light. Results of experiment can be summarized as follows: 1. In case of administrating Ginseng butanol fraction for 1 day, stimulating effect of Ginseng was observed in spontaneous activity by caffeine in comparison with the control. at the first, but after 45 minutes no significant change was observed. 2. In case of administrating Ginseng butanol, fraction for 5days, decreasing tendency was observed in spontaneous activity by caffeine. 3. In case of administrating Ginseng butanol fraction for 10days, marked decrease was observed in spontaneous activity by caffeine in comparison with the control. From the experiment on the increased dose of caffeine, nonsignificant change was observed in comparison with caffeine and sodium benzoate 25mg/kg group. 4. A state of increased resistance was lasted until 5 days, and after 10 days it was disappeared. 5. Otherwise, nonsignificant change was observed for chlorpromazin HCl in comparison with the control. 6. From this result, 10 days administrating of ginseng butanol fraction appeared to have increased resistance in mice against caffeine.

The technology of Semi-Solid Forging (SSF) has been actively developed to fabricate near-net- shape products using light and hardly formable materials. Generally, the SSF process is composed of slug heating, forming, compression holding and ejecting step. After forming step in SSF, the slug is compressed during a certain holding time in order to be completely filled in the die cavity and be accelerated in solidification rate. This paper presents the analysis of temperature, solid fraction and shrinkage at compression holding step for a cylindrical slug, then predicts the solidification time to obtain the final shaped part. Enthalpy-based finite element analysis is performed to solve the heat transfer problem considering phase change in solidification.
In this study, measurements of size-segregated particulate matter (PM) emitted from the combustion of rice straw, pine needles, and sesame stem were conducted in a laboratory chamber. The collected samples were used to analyze amounts of organic and elemental carbon (OC and EC), water-soluble organic carbon (WSOC), humic-like substances (HULIS), and ionic species. The light absorption properties of size-resolved water extracts were measured using ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy. A solid-phase extraction method was first used to separate the size-resolved HULIS fraction, which was then quantified by a total organic carbon analyzer. The results show that regardless of particle cut sizes, the contributions of size-resolved HULIS ($=1.94{\times}HULIS-C$) to PM size fractions ($PM_{0.32}$, $PM_{0.55}$, $PM_{1.0}$, and $PM_{1.8}$) were similar, accounting for 25.2-27.6, 15.2-22.4 and 28.2-28.7% for rice straw, pine needle, and sesame stem smoke samples, respectively. The $PM_{1.8}$ fraction revealed WSOC/OC and HULIS-C/WSOC ratios of 0.51 and 0.60, 0.44 and 0.40, and 0.50 and 0.60 for the rice straw, pine needle, and sesame stem burning emissions, respectively. Strong absorption with decreasing wavelength was found by the water extracts from size-resolved biomass burning aerosols. The absorption ${\AA}ngstr{\ddot{o}}m $ exponent values of the size-resolved water extracts fitted between 300 and 400 nm wavelengths for particle sizes of $0.32-1.0{\mu}m$ were 6.6-7.7 for the rice straw burning samples, and 7.5-8.0 for the sesame stem burning samples. The average mass absorption efficiencies of size-resolved WSOC and HULIS-C at 365 nm were 1.09 (range: 0.89-1.61) and 1.82 (range: 1.33-2.06) $m^2/g{\cdot}C$ for rice straw smoke aerosols, and 1.13 (range: 0.85-1.52) and 1.83 (range: 1.44-2.05) $m^2/g{\cdot}C$ for sesame stem smoke aerosols, respectively. The light absorption of size-resolved water extracts measured at 365 nm showed strong correlations with WSOC and HULIS-C concentrations ($R^2=0.89-0.93$), indicating significant contribution of HULIS component from biomass burning emissions to the light absorption of ambient aerosols.
Influences of aluminum carbide ($Al_4C_3$) addition on microstructure and damping capacity of Mg-3%Al casting alloy have been investigated based on experimental results of optical micrography, scanning electron microscopy with energy-dispersive spectrometry analysis and damping capacity measurement at RT. The addition of $Al_4C_3$ particles results in an efficient grain refinement. The damping capacity shows an increasing tendency with an increase in $Al_4C_3$ content. The damping value associated with $Al_4C_3$ particles is linearly dependent on the volume fraction of $Al_4C_3$ particles to the 2/3 power, $f_{2/3}$, which corresponds to the total surface area of the particles.

In this study, The stability of a cream containing the ethyl acetate fraction of 50% ethanol extracts from Glycyrrhiza uralensis (G. uralensis) cultured in Korea was investigated. pH, absorbance, viscosity and color difference of the cream containing 0.20% ethyl acetate fraction of the aforementioned G. uralensis extracts were measured under 4 different temperature conditions ($4^{\circ}C$$25^{\circ}C$$37^{\circ}C$ and $45^{\circ}C$) and under the sun light at 2 week intervals for 12 weeks. pH changes of a control cream without the extracts and the sample cream containing 0.20% ethyl acetate fraction of G. uralensis extracts were 0.66 and 0.44, respectively. There were no significant pH differences between the sample and the control under the sun. Viscosities of the control cream and the sample cream decreased by 2,483 cPs and 2,893 cPs respectively. So, the sample cream showed a bigger decline (410 cP) in viscosity than the control cream. The ethyl acetate fraction of G. uralensis extracts did not affect the stability of the cream. Absorbance of ethanol solution of the ethyl acetate fraction decreased 30.00% at 276 nm under the sun. On the other hand, the absorbance of the sample cream containing the ethyl acetate fraction decreased 12.02%. The stability of the G. uralensis extracts was better in cream formulation than in ethanol solution. The total color differences of all creams increased slightly during the study period under various conditions. The results appeared to indicate the color stability of the cream containing 0.20% ethyl acetate fraction of G. uralensis extracts. It is suggested that further study is needed to provide more information to the manufacturers who are seeking for the application of the G. uralensis extracts to improve the anti-oxidant and stability of cosmetic products.

Small-molecule organic photovoltaic cells have recently attracted growing attention due to their potential for the low-cost fabrication of flexible and lightweight solar modules. The PVP/Ag nanoparticles were synthesized by the reaction of poly vinylpyrrolidone (PVP) and silver nitrate at $150^{\circ}C$. In the reaction, the size of the nanoparticles was controlled by relative mole fractions between PVP and Ag. The PVP/Ag nanoparticles with various sizes were then spin coated on the patterned ITO glass prior to the deposition of the PEDOT:PSS hole transport layer. The scattering of the incident light caused by these incorporated nanoparticles resulted in an increase in the path length of the light through the active layer and hence the enhancement of the light absorption. This scattering effect increased as the size of the nanoparticles increased, but it was offset by the decrease in total transmittance caused by the non-transparent nanoparticles. As a result, the maximum power conversion efficiency, 0.96% which was the value enhanced by 14% compared to the cell without incorporation of nanoparticles, was obtained when the mole fraction of PVP:Ag was 24:1 and the size of the nanoparticles was 20~40 nm.

A light-weight aggregate with a surface layer was fabricated using glass abrasive sludge and expanding agents. The glass abrasive sludges were mixed with expanding agents ($Fe_2O_3,\;graphite,\;CaCO_3$) and formed into precursors. These precursors were sintered in the range of $700-900^{\circ}C$ for 20min. The sintered light-weight aggregate had a surface layer with smaller pores and an inner region with larger pores. The surface layer and pores controlled the water absorption ratio and physical properties. As the expanding agent fraction and the sintering temperature increased, the porosity and pore size increased. The light-weight aggregate with $Fe_2O_3$ and graphite as the expanding agents had a low water absorption ratio while the porous material with $CaCO_3$ as the expanding agent had a higher water absorption ratio and more open pores.
The target of this work was the process development of demonstration plant to produce the high quality alternative fuel oil by the pyrolysis of mixed plastic waste. In the first step of research, the bench-scale units of 70 t/y and the pilot plant of 360 t/y had been developed. Main research contents in this step were the process performance test of pilot plant of 360 ton/year and the development of demonstration plant of 3,000 t/y, which was constructed at Korea R & D Company in Kimjae City. The process performance of pilot plant of 360 t/y showed about 80% yield of liquid product, which was obtained by both light gas oil(LGO) and heavy gas oil(HGO), The boiling point range distribution of LO product that was mainly consisting of olefin components in PONA group appeared at between that of commercial gasoline and kerosene. On the other hand, HO product was mainly paraffin and olefin components and also appeared at upper temperature distribution range than commercial diesel. Gas product showed a high fraction of $C_3\;and\;C_4$ product like LPG composition, but also a high fraction of $CO_2$ and CO by probably a little leak of process.
