Evaluation on Performance of Accuracy for Analysis and Classification of Data Related to Industrial Accidents (산업재해 데이터의 분석 및 분류를 위한 정확도 성능 평가)

  • Recently data mining techniques have been used for analysis and classification of data related to industrial accidents. The main objective of this study is to compare performance of algorithms for data analysis of industrial accidents and this paper provides a comparative analysis of 5 kinds of algorithms including CHAID, CART, C4.5, LR (Logistic Regression) and NN (Neural Network) with ROC chart, lift chart and response threshold. In this study, data on 67,278 accidents were analyzed to create risk groups for a number of complications, including the risk of disease and accident. The sample for this work chosen from data related to manufacturing industries during three years $(2002\sim2004)$ in korea. According to the result analysis, NN has excellent performance for data analysis and classification of industrial accidents.

  • Recently most universities are suffering from students leaving their majors. In order to make a countermeasure for reducing major separation rate, many universities are trying to find a proper solution. As a similar endeavor, this paper uses decision tree algorithm which is one of the data mining techniques which conduct grouping or prediction into several sub-groups from interested groups. This technique can analyze a feature of type on students leaving their majors. The dataset consists of 5,115 features through data selection from total data of 13,346 collected from a university in Kangwon-Do during seven years(2000.3.1 $\sim$ 2006.6.30). The main objective of this study is to evaluate performance of algorithms including CHAID, CART and C4.5 for classification of students leaving their majors with ROC Chart, Lift Chart and Gains Chart. Also, this study provides values about accuracy, sensitivity, specificity using classification table. According to the analysis result, CART showed the best performance for classification of students leaving their majors.

A Study on Approximation Model for Optimal Predicting Model of Industrial Accidents (산업재해의 최적 예측모형을 위한 근사모형에 관한 연구)

The main objective of this study is to compare algorithms for data analysis of industrial accidents and this paper provides an optimal predicting model of 5 kinds of algorithms including CHAID, CART, C4.5, LR (Logistic Regression) and NN (Neural Network) with ROC chart, lift chart and response threshold. Also, this paper provides an approximation model for an optimal predicting model based on NN. The approximation model provided in this study can be utilized for easy interpretation of data analysis using NN. This study uses selected ten independent variables to group injured people according to a dependent variable in a way that reduces variation. In order to find an optimal predicting model among 5 algorithms, a retrospective analysis was performed in 67,278 subjects. The sample for this work chosen from data related to industrial accidents during three years ($2002\;{\sim}\;2004$) in korea. According to the result analysis, NN has excellent performance for data analysis and classification of industrial accidents.

Development of KD-Propeller Series Using a New Blade Section

  • A new propeller series is developed using the newly developed blade section (KH 18 section) which has better cavitation characteristics and higher lift-drag ratio at wade angle-of-attack range than a conventional section. The radial patch distribution of the new series propellers is variable stance they were designed adaptively to a typical wake distribution. Basic geometric particulars of the series propellers. such as chord length, thickness, skew and rake distributions, are determined on the basis of recent full scale propeller geometric data. The series is developed for propellers having 4 blades, and blade area ratios of 0.3, 0.45, 0.6 and 0.75. Mean pitch ratios are varied as 0.5, 0.6, 0.7, 0.95 and 1.1 for each blade area ratio. The new propeller series consists of 20 propellers and is named as the KD(KRISO-DAEWOO)-propeller series. Propeller open-water tests are performed at the towing tank, and cavitation observation tests and fluctuating pressure tests are carried out at the cavitation tunnel of KRISO. $B_{p}-\delta$ curves, which can be used to select the optimum propeller diameter at the preliminary design stage, are derived from a regression analysis of the propeller open-water test results. The KD-cavitation chart is derived from the cavitation observation test results by choosing the local maximum lift coefficient and the local cavitation number as parameters. The cavity extent predicted by the KD-cavitation chart would be more accurate compared to that by an existing cavitation charts, such as the Burrll's cavitation chart, since the former is derived from the cavitation observation test results in a typical ship's wake, while the lather is derived from the test results in a uniform flow.

Aerodynamic Analysis of Various Winglets (윙렛 형상에 따른 공력 특성 해석)

  • Aircraft fuel efficiency is one of main concerns to aircraft manufacturers and to aviation companies because jet fuel price has tripled in last ten years. One of simple and effective methods to increase fuel efficiency is to reduce aircraft induced drag by using of wingtip devices. Induced drag is closely related to the circulation distribution, which produces strong wingtip vortex behind the tip of a finite wing. Wingtip devices including winglets can be successfully applied to reduce induced drag by wingtip vortex mitigation. Winglet design, however, is very complicated process and has to consider many parameters including installation position, height, taper ratio, sweepback, airfoil, toe-out angle and cant angle of winglets. In current research, different shapes of winglets are compared in the view of vortex mitigation. Appropriately designed winglets are proved to mitigate wingtip vortex and to increase lift to drag ratio. Also, the results show that winglets are more efficient than wingtip extension. That is the reason B-747-400 and B-737-800 chose winglets instead of a span increase to increase payload and range. Drag polar comparison chart is presented to show that minimum drag is increased by viscous drag of winglet, but at high lift, total drag is reduced by induced drag decrease. So, winglets are more efficient for aircraft that cruises at a high lift condition, which generates very strong wingtip vortex.

  • Trip-based material handling systems such as AGV systems, lift trucks, etc. are often designed with a given flow matrix (or FROM-TO chart) which is usually treated as the number of loaded trips that the devices must perform per unit time between the stations. In reality, the number of trips that would result from parts flow in a facility is dictated by the transfer batch size, i.e., the number of parts that are transferred from one station to the next in one trip. In this paper, we present analytical and simulation results aimed at determining optimal or near-optimal transfer batch sizes in manufacturing systems.

Selecting the Best Prediction Model for Readmission

  • Objectives: This study aims to determine the risk factors predicting rehospitalization by comparing three models and selecting the most successful model. Methods: In order to predict the risk of rehospitalization within 28 days after discharge, 11 951 inpatients were recruited into this study between January and December 2009. Predictive models were constructed with three methods, logistic regression analysis, a decision tree, and a neural network, and the models were compared and evaluated in light of their misclassification rate, root asymptotic standard error, lift chart, and receiver operating characteristic curve. Results: The decision tree was selected as the final model. The risk of rehospitalization was higher when the length of stay (LOS) was less than 2 days, route of admission was through the out-patient department (OPD), medical department was in internal medicine, 10th revision of the International Classification of Diseases code was neoplasm, LOS was relatively shorter, and the frequency of OPD visit was greater. Conclusions: When a patient is to be discharged within 2 days, the appropriateness of discharge should be considered, with special concern of undiscovered complications and co-morbidities. In particular, if the patient is admitted through the OPD, any suspected disease should be appropriately examined and prompt outcomes of tests should be secured. Moreover, for patients of internal medicine practitioners, co-morbidity and complications caused by chronic illness should be given greater attention.

The pitch and camber distributions are disigned in order to have the same radial and chordwise loading distribution with the selected circumferentially averaged wake input. Since the geometries of the series propeller, such as chord length, thickness, skew and rate distribations, are selected by regression of the recent full scale propeller geometric data, the performance prediction of a propeller at preliminary design stage can be mure realistic. Number of blades of the series propellers is 4 and the expanded blade area ratios are 0.3, 0.45, 0.6 and 0.75. Mean pitch ratios are selected as 0.5, 0.65, 0.8, 0.75 and 1.1 for each expanded area ratio. The new propeller series is composed of 20 propellers and is named as KD(KRISO-DAEWOO) propeller series. Propeller open water tests are performed at the experimental towing tank, and the cavitation observation tests and fluctuating pressure measurements are carried out at the cavitation tunnel of KRISO. $B_{P}-\delta$ curves, which can be used to select the optimum propeller diameter at the preliminary design stage, are derived from a regression analysis of the propeller often water test results. The KD-cavitation chart is derived from the cavitation observation test results by choosing the local maximum lift coefficient and the local cavitation number as parameters. The caviy extent of a propeller can be predicted more accurately by using the KD-cavitation chart at a preliminary design stage, since it is derived from the results of the cavitation observation tests in the selected ship's wake, whereas the existing cavitation charts, such as the Burrill's cavitation chart, are derived from the test results in uniform flow.

A Study on the Effect of Using Sentiment Lexicon in Opinion Classification (오피니언 분류의 감성사전 활용효과에 대한 연구)

  • Recently, with the advent of various information channels, the number of has continued to grow. The main cause of this phenomenon can be found in the significant increase of unstructured data, as the use of smart devices enables users to create data in the form of text, audio, images, and video. In various types of unstructured data, the user's opinion and a variety of information is clearly expressed in text data such as news, reports, papers, and various articles. Thus, active attempts have been made to create new value by analyzing these texts. The representative techniques used in text analysis are text mining and opinion mining. These share certain important characteristics; for example, they not only use text documents as input data, but also use many natural language processing techniques such as filtering and parsing. Therefore, opinion mining is usually recognized as a sub-concept of text mining, or, in many cases, the two terms are used interchangeably in the literature. Suppose that the purpose of a certain classification analysis is to predict a positive or negative opinion contained in some documents. If we focus on the classification process, the analysis can be regarded as a traditional text mining case. However, if we observe that the target of the analysis is a positive or negative opinion, the analysis can be regarded as a typical example of opinion mining. In other words, two methods (i.e., text mining and opinion mining) are available for opinion classification. Thus, in order to distinguish between the two, a precise definition of each method is needed. In this paper, we found that it is very difficult to distinguish between the two methods clearly with respect to the purpose of analysis and the type of results. We conclude that the most definitive criterion to distinguish text mining from opinion mining is whether an analysis utilizes any kind of sentiment lexicon. We first established two prediction models, one based on opinion mining and the other on text mining. Next, we compared the main processes used by the two prediction models. Finally, we compared their prediction accuracy. We then analyzed 2,000 movie reviews. The results revealed that the prediction model based on opinion mining showed higher average prediction accuracy compared to the text mining model. Moreover, in the lift chart generated by the opinion mining based model, the prediction accuracy for the documents with strong certainty was higher than that for the documents with weak certainty. Most of all, opinion mining has a meaningful advantage in that it can reduce learning time dramatically, because a sentiment lexicon generated once can be reused in a similar application domain. Additionally, the classification results can be clearly explained by using a sentiment lexicon. This study has two limitations. First, the results of the experiments cannot be generalized, mainly because the experiment is limited to a small number of movie reviews. Additionally, various parameters in the parsing and filtering steps of the text mining may have affected the accuracy of the prediction models. However, this research contributes a performance and comparison of text mining analysis and opinion mining analysis for opinion classification. In future research, a more precise evaluation of the two methods should be made through intensive experiments.
