  • The core competence is an increasingly important concept that should be reflected in school education in the abilities that need to be developed over a lifetime. In this study, we analyzed the relationship between core competence and employment of students who took core competence-based training courses for those who graduated from D-University, and reflected it in the improvement of the D-University education course and the university education policy. We plan to utilize the results of future analysis as a material for raising the employment rate and developing human resources that match the human resources image of D-University.

  • Novel diphenylphenanthrenes (DPPs) were prepared by a photocyclization method, and the substituent effects of the phenyl groups on the photophysical properties of the phenanthrene chromophore were investigated based on measurements of fluorescence yields, lifetimes, and transient absorption. Fluorescence activities in DPPs are increased by introducing phenyl rings that can enhance the transition moment along the short axis of the phenanthrene skeleton. Intersystem crossing from the fluorescent states to the triplet manifolds is shown to be operative through the triplet-triplet absorption spectra obtained by laser photolysis techniques.

  • An amperometric sensor for L-ascorbic acid(AA) in methanol media has been made by immobilizing squash-tissues on a graphite rod disk. A detection limit of the electrode was $2{\times}10^{-6}M$ L-ascorbic acid. In comparison with an isolated enzyme based ascorbate oxidase(AO) electrode, the plant-tissue electrode offered high biocatalytic stability and activity and extremely low cost. The electrode has a useful lifetime of 1 week.

  • The battery pack in this research consists of dozens of a small battery for energy storage. And this battery pack charges and discharges repeatedly at high capacity (25 ~ 50 V, 25 ~ 100 A). The high temperature which can be generated in this process has a bad effect to the lifetime and efficiency of batteries. Moreover these factors are related with maintenance cost. Therefore, we need to assess the thermal performance of the battery pack in advance using the experimental or numerical analysis. In this research, we analyzed voltage and surface temperature of one cell battery to calculate heat transfer using the numerical analysis. And the temperature of the battery surfaces and inside of the pack was also analyzed. As a result, we found out the appropriate pack structure which stacked five modules.

  • The purpose of the study was to assess relationship between smoking-related questionnaire and urinary cotinine. Seventy-five students of each one class of the first and second grade in one vocational school were administered the smoking-related items of the Youth Risk Behavior Survey October 2000, after which urine samples were collected. Urinary cotinine was detected by qualitative AccuSign Nicotine immunoassay. Positivity of urinary cotinine was detected in 29 of 75 students (38.7%). Kappa coefficients between self-reported smoking behaviors and positivity of urinary cotinine were all statistically significant, showing 0.41, 0.50, 0.28, 0.71 in lifetime smokers, regular smokers, current smokers, and current frequent smokers, respectively. These results showed that self-reported questionnaire may be useful in smoking-related survey and qualitative urinary cotinine may be used as validation of self-reported questionnaire.

  • This study suggests that lifelong education is regarded as a support system for lifelong learning, which includes all activities of educational characteristics, which ultimately has the goal of universalization of self - education. The goal is to successfully adapt to life. Statements supporting the need for lifelong learning have been found to be based primarily on the impossibility of this system to provide sufficient education to accelerate social change and to last a lifetime. The obstacles to implementation included inertia, resistance to change, motivation and cost. Opponents are likely to regard lifelong education as an attempt to expand compulsory education for exploitation and control purposes. This study found that there is an important consensus among supporters, but many questions remain. The full feasibility of lifelong education is considered to be far removed, and lifelong education should be interpreted as a source of direction and purpose, and ideals that society should aim for.

  • The generation of redundant data according to the spatial-temporal correlation in a wireless sensor network that reduces the network lifetime by consuming unnecessary energy. In this paper, data collection experiment through the particulate matter sensor is carried out to confirm the spatial-temporal data redundancy and we propose permitted limit setting method for data transmission to solve this problem. In the proposed method, the data transmission permitted limit is set by using the integrated average value in the cluster. The set permitted limit reduces the redundant data of the member node and it is shows that redundant data reduction is possible even in a variable environment of collected data by resetting the permitted limit in the cluster head.

  • Owing to limited energy in wireless devices power saving is very critical to prolong the lifetime of the networks. In this regard, we designed a cross-layer optimization mechanism based on power control in which source node broadcasts a Route Request Packet (RREQ) containing information such as node id, image size, end to end bit error rate (BER) and residual battery energy to its neighbor nodes to initiate a multimedia session. Each intermediate node appends its remaining battery energy, link gain, node id and average noise power to the RREQ packet. Upon receiving the RREQ packets, the sink node finds node disjoint paths and calculates the optimal power vectors for each disjoint path using cross layer optimization algorithm. Sink based cross-layer maximal minimal residual energy (MMRE) algorithm finds the number of image packets that can be sent on each path and sends the Route Reply Packet (RREP) to the source on each disjoint path which contains the information such as optimal power vector, remaining battery energy vector and number of packets that can be sent on the path by the source. Simulation results indicate that considerable energy saving can be accomplished with the proposed cross layer power control algorithm.

  • Objectives Childhood & adolescence is the most crucial period in a lifetime to learn ability to maintain one's health even though this period usually has the least death rate or illness. Smoking is the one of the most common cause of one's death and illness, but can be avoidable. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of the smoking cessation education through the program by school doctor of Korean medicine. Methods In 2017, the Seoul metropolitan office of education and the Seoul Korean medicine association implemented the program by school doctor of Korean medicine including smoking cessation education for 2 elementary schools (470 students) and 3 middle schools (1,106 students). And we carried out questionnaire to 211 people (1 elementary school and 1 middle school) and analyzed the results. Results The score in regards to smoking knowledge, before and after education, was increased from 3.35 to 4.22. The score in regards to negative perceptions about smoking, before and after education, was increased from 17.62 to 18.08. Conclusions After the smoking cessation education through the program by school doctor of Korean medicine, participants were highly satisfied because their knowledge about the smoke was increased as well as negative perception of the smoke. Therefore, development and application of smoking cessation programs will be needed.

  • Background: Among the different aims of medical education, the provision of society with skilled, professional, and knowledgeable healthcare workers who maintain and develop their expertise over a lifetime career is important. The achievement of this goal is linked with the professional development of both faculty members and healthcare workers. This study aims to measure the perception of faculty members regarding their views about the goals of faculty development programs, practices and activities, and factors that determine their achievement. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted in multiple universities in the Western region of Saudi Arabia. The participants were given a pre-designed self-administered questionnaire generated from literature. The survey questionnaire consisted of three sections that were designed to assess the faculty members' perception on the faculty development program. Results: A total of 210 faculty members participated in the study. The most important perceived goal was to motivate teachers to become better teachers. The most important perceived practice was establishing a positive climate for teaching and learning. The most important perceived factor was skilled and dedicated staff support. Conclusion: The results of this study demonstrate that faculty members have positive perceptions regarding all aspects of faculty development programs. This study will raise awareness regarding the importance of faculty development programs in sustaining educational vitality. We recommend the implementation and maintenance of comprehensive faculty development programs in Saudi universities.
