  • We proposed 2-phase regression of power function inside exponential for PDP lifetime data analysis. In introducing our method we discussed the reason why PDP degradation behavior is described by exponential function basically. By applying our method to 50HD and 50FHD PDP lifetime experiment data, we obtained more than 100,000Hr lifetime. From these results, we claim that PDP lifetime is more than 100,000Hr.

  • NAND flash memory has unique characteristics like as 'out-place-update' and limited lifetime compared with traditional storage systems. According to out-of-place update scheme, a number of invalid (or called dead) pages can be generated. In this case, garbage collection is needed to reclaim invalid pages. Because garbage collection results in not only erase operations but also copy operations of valid (or called live) pages to other blocks, many garbage collection techniques have proposed to reduce the overhead and to increase the lifetime of NAND Flash systems. This techniques sometimes select victim blocks including cold data for the wear leveling. However, most of them overlook the cost of selecting victim blocks including cold data. In this paper, we propose a garbage collection technique named CAPi (Cost Age with Proportion of invalid pages). Considering the additional overhead of what to select victim blocks including cold data, CAPi improves the response time in garbage collection and increase the lifetime in memory systems. Additionally, the proposed scheme also improves the efficiency of garbage collection by separating cold data from hot data in valid pages. In experimental evaluation, we showed that CAPi yields up to, at maximum, 73% improvement in lifetime compared with existing garbage collections.

  • A tree routing structure is often adopted for many-to-one data gathering and aggregation in sensor networks. For real-time scenarios, considering lossy wireless links, it is an important issue how to construct a maximum-lifetime data gathering tree with delay constraint. In this work, we study the problem of lifetime-preserving and delay-constrained tree construction in unreliable sensor networks. We prove that the problem is NP-complete. A greedy approximation algorithm is proposed. We use expected transmissions count (ETX) as the link quality indicator, as well as a measure of delay. Our algorithm starts from an arbitrary least ETX tree, and iteratively adjusts the hierarchy of the tree to reduce the load on bottleneck nodes by pruning and grafting its sub-tree. The complexity of the proposed algorithm is $O(N^4)$. Finally, extensive simulations are carried out to verify our approach. Simulation results show that our algorithm provides longer lifetime in various situations compared to existing data gathering schemes.

  • Nowadays mobile devices are used for various applications such as making voice/video calls, browsing the Internet, listening to music etc. The average battery consumption of each of these activities and the length of time a user spends on each one determines the battery lifetime of a mobile device. Previous methods have provided predictions of battery lifetime using a static battery consumption rate that does not consider user characteristics. This paper proposes an approach to predict a mobile device's available battery lifetime based on usage patterns. Because every user has a different pattern of voice calls, data communication, and video call usage, we can use such usage patterns for personalized prediction of battery lifetime. Firstly, we define one or more states that affect battery consumption. Then, we record time-series log data related to battery consumption and the use time of each state. We calculate the average battery consumption rate for each state and determine the usage pattern based on the time-series data. Finally, we predict the available battery time based on the average battery consumption rate for each state and the usage pattern. We also present the experimental trials used to validate our approach in the real world.

  • Fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy (FLIM) has been considered an effective technique to investigate chemical properties of the specimens, especially of biological samples. Despite of this advantageous trait, researchers in this field have had difficulties applying FLIM to their systems because acquiring an image using FLIM consumes too much time. Although analog mean-delay (AMD) method was introduced to enhance the imaging speed of commonly used FLIM based on time-correlated single photon counting (TCSPC), a real-time image reconstruction using AMD method has not been implemented due to its data processing obstacles. In this paper, we introduce a real-time image restoration of AMD-FLIM through fast parallel data processing by using Threading Building Blocks (TBB; Intel) and octa-core processor (i7-5960x; Intel). Frame rate of 3.8 frames per second was achieved in $1,024{\times}1,024$ resolution with over 4 million lifetime determinations per second and measurement error within 10%. This image acquisition speed is 184 times faster than that of single-channel TCSPC and 9.2 times faster than that of 8-channel TCSPC (state-of-art photon counting rate of 80 million counts per second) with the same lifetime accuracy of 10% and the same pixel resolution.

  • Data collection is a key function for wireless sensor networks. There has been numerous data collection scheduling algorithms, but they fail to consider the deep and complex relationship among network lifetime, sink aggregated information and sample cycle for wireless sensor networks. This paper gives the upper bound on the sample period under the given network topology. An optimal schedule algorithm focusing on aggregated information named OSFAI is proposed. In the schedule algorithm, the nodes in hotspots would hold on transmission and accumulate their data before sending them to sink at once. This could realize the dual goals of improving the network lifetime and increasing the amount of information aggregated to sink. We formulate the optimization problem as to achieve trade-off among sample cycle, sink aggregated information and network lifetime by controlling the sample cycle. The results of simulation on the random generated wireless sensor networks show that when choosing the optimized sample cycle, the sink aggregated information quantity can be increased by 30.5%, and the network lifetime can be increased by 27.78%.

  • This study presents the development of a lifetime test bench for the strain wave reducer which is a precision gear reducer of the robot to realize fault diagnosis and failure prognostics. To this end, the lifetime test bench was designed to detect the vertical forward/reverse direction rotation load. Through the lifetime test bench, it is possible to apply the same load spectrum from robot working scenarios. We developed a data integration gateway for fault data collection. Through the development of dedicated software for fault diagnosis and failure prognostics, these data from vibration, noise and temperature sensors were collected and analyzed along with the operation of the lifetime evaluation.

  • Customer Lifetime or Customer Lifetime Value is a essential metric of differentiated CRM marketing and differentiated marketing strategy as a company core competency. However, customer lifetime used in companies is easily obtained from a confined simple customer attrition rate at some specific time point regardless of customer characteristics. In this study, in order to overcome the constraints of previous simple methods and to make practical use of it in industries, we suggest a method that estimates a customer lifetime using a customer segment based survival analysis with the censored data of customers; in addition, we apply this method to A mobile telecom company data. A method using customer segment based survival analysis is suggested in this study 1) includes all customers having different subscription dates, 2) reduces individual error, 3) can reflect trends after the observed time point and is more realistic.

  • Objectives: The objective of this paper was to estimate a South Korean's lifetime dental expenditures for periodontitis. Methods: For our study, we collected data from the Korea Health Panel Survey (KHPS), from 2010 to 2016. The outpatient dental care data of 1,919,608 samples of periodontitis were extracted using R version 3.0 and estimations of lifetime dental expenditures for them were generated using Excel. Results: Over 50% of the lifetime dental expenditure of South Koreans was spent for periodontitis, and incurred after the age of 40. The results showed that an estimate of average per capita lifetime dental expenditure for men (approximately 13 million won) was greater than that for women (approximately 8.8 million won) for periodontitis. Conclusions: Efficient methods for the prevention and management of periodontitis are necessary, and a new paradigm of health care system is required to reduce dental expenditure through its prevention.

  • Estimating parameters of the lifetime distribution is investigated when field failure data are not completelyreported. To take into account the reality and the accuracy of the estimates in such a case, the failure reportingprobability is incorporated in estimating parameters, Firstly, method of maximum likelihood estimate (MLE) isused to estimate parameters of the lifetime distribution when failure reporting probability is known, Secondly,Expectation and Maximization (EM) algorithm is used to estimate the failure reporting probability and parame-ters of the lifetime distribution simultaneously when failure reporting probability is unknown. For both cases, procedures of estimation are illustrated for single Weibull distribution and mixed Weibull distribution. Simula-tion results show that MLE obtained by the proposed method is more accurate than the conventional MLE.
