Methods: The subjects of this study were 81 adults who took medical examination at a general hospital health clinic in Cheonan city. The instruments used in this study were the motivation scale and modified HPLP. For data collection, the first survey was conducted from March 16 to April 19, 2001, and the second survey was carried out by mail three months after the medical examination from June 16 to July 19, 2001. Results: 1. The age of the subjects ranged from 26 to 66 years, 71.6% were male, and the major group was office workers(43.2%). 2. The average score of motivation scale was significantly improved in three months to 520.7(SD=82.7). All sub-scales of motivation scale, self-efficacy(t=-4.204, p=.000), perceived benefits(t=-4.263, p=.000), perceived barriers (t=4.305, p=.000), and emotional salience (t=-6.169, p=.000) showed significant improvements in 3 months. 3. The average score of health-promoting lifestyle was significantly increased to 62.5 (SD=9.8) (t=-5.111, p=.000) after 3 months. Health responsibility(t=-6.098, p=.000), eating habit(t=-3.625, p=.001), exercise(t=-2.557, p=.012), and smoking habit(t=-2.157, p=.034) showed significant improvement. But stress management was not changed at the significant level in 3 months(t=-1.832, p=.071). 4. As the result of multiple regression analysis, it was found that perceived barriers, self-efficacy and monthly mean income had a significant influence on health-promoting lifestyle in 3 months after the medical examination. These variables explained 42.4% of variance in health-promoting lifestyle in 3 months after the medical examination. Conclusion: Periodic medical examination and guidance for healthy lifestyle was effective to change the motivation and to improve health promoting lifestyle.

This study also intended to examine the levels of consumers' participation in pursuing a 'well-being' lifestyle, and to find female consumers' characteristics related to well-being lifestyle. The results of study were as follows: First, female consumers were classified in terms of their lifestyle by using their participation in, and awareness of well-being concerns. The results were divided into four groups: society/family-oriented group, 'well-being' oriented leading group, trend-oriented material wealth pursuit group, and selt~centered/fashionable appearance-oriented group. Second, the results of examining characteristics by female consumer type in terms of their pursuit of a well-being lifestyle show that the 'well-being' oriented leading group had the greatest number of innovators and followers. Also, the trend-oriented material wealth pursuit group consisted of mostly medium level participants, and the self-centered/fashionable appearance-oriented group had the greatest number of 'well-being' lifestyle bystanders. With regards to practical participation group, significant differences were found in the sections of 'health', 'leisure' and 'whole', except for 'appearance management'. With regards to purchase experience of 'well-being' products, the health-oriented leading group was the highest participation level in the sections of 'clothes' and 'food', except for 'residence', in which the society/family-oriented group was the highest. Third, demographical characteristics within female consumer types classified by 'well-being' lifestyle showed that the society/family-oriented group had a high percent of. dedicated housewives in their forties or fifties, and the trend-oriented material wealth pursuit group has a high percent of married people in their twenties or thirties. Also, the self-oriented/fashionable appearance-oriented group had a high percent of unmarried. people in their twenties.

  • BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Type 2 Diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a hereditary disease that is also strongly dependent on environmental factors, lifestyles, and dietary habits. This study explored the relationship between lifestyle habits and glycosylated hemoglobin management in T2DM patients to provide empirical outcomes to improve T2DM management and patient health literacy. SUBJECTS/METHODS: This study enrolled 349 diabetic patients with more than 5 care visits to a Diabetes Mellitus care network under the Health Management Plan led by Taiwan Department of Health (DOH). Based on relevant literature, an Outpatient Record Form of Diabetes Mellitus Care was designed and lipid profile tests were conducted for data collection and analysis. RESULTS: When modeling the data, the results showed that the odds for HbA1c > 7.5% in T2DM patients duration over 10 years was 3.785 (P = 0.002) times that in patients with disease duration of fewer than 3 years. The odds of HbA1c > 7.5% in illiterate patients was 3.128 (P = 0.039) times that in patients with senior high school education or above. The odds of HbA1c > 7.5% in patients with other chronic illness was 2.207 (P = 0.019) times that in participants without chronic illness. Among 5 beneficial lifestyle habits, the odds of HbA1c > 7.5% in patients with 2 or 3 good habits were 3.243 (P = 0.003) and 3.424 (P = 0.001) times that in patients with more than 3 good habits, respectively. CONCLUSION: This empirical outcome shows that maintaining a good lifestyle improves T2DM management and patients' knowledge, motivation, and ability to use health information. Patients with longer disease duration, education, or good lifestyle habits had optimal HbA1c management than those in patients who did not. Thus, effective selfmanagement and precaution in daily life and improved health literacy of diabetic patients are necessary to increase the quality of T2DM care.

  • This study aimed to find health related lifestyle factors that influence glycemic control for diabetes mellitus (DM) management strategies. This study used nested case-control design with matching variables that were not controlled by individuals such as age, sex, insulin or oral hypoglycemic agent (OHA) use, disease duration, education level and household income. This study analyzed 983 subjects with type 2 DM who enrolled in the $7^{th}$ (2016-2017) Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES). The target HbA1c level of controlled glucose was defined as less than 6.5%, and 289 (30%) were achieved. Conditional multivariable logistic regression analysis was performed to find self-control factors associated with HbA1c levels. The results statistically significant for variables such as duration of diabetes, insulin or OHA use in overall cohort and body mass index (BMI), smoking and fundus Examination in matched cohort. These results are expected to provide as evidence for the intensive care criteria(disease duration, drug use) and lifestyle management strategy(BMI, smoking, fundus examination).

  • This study measures the subjectivity(opinions·attitudes)of college women. Identifying the schemata(structure of subjectivity) would be a basic step for the women's health education and the promotion to alternative strategies of women's health nursing. More concretely, these following research questions are focused. 1) The subjective schemata : find out typologies based on the opinions and attitudes toward the health lifestyle. 2) Applications : describe the characteristics of each type. 3) Alternatives : provide suggestion of the promotion to alternative strategies for women's health nursing. Q- Methodological method was used for that purpose. As for the research method, Q-statements were preliminary collected in the study from through in-depth interviews and a literature review. For the study 36 Q-statements were selected. 33 college women were used as subjects for research. The 33 college women sorted the 36 statements using the principle of Forced Normal Distribution. The principle of Forced Normal Distribution, which has nine scales to measure the individual opinions, was called. Q-Factor Analysis by using PC Quanl Program to supply the material. According to the outcomes of this study, there were three categories of special opinions about the health lifestyle in college women. The first type is called Initiatived Health Management Type. The second type is called Social Activity Centered Type. The third type is called Positive Outlook Type. Through the result of this study, the health lifestyle could be identified by 3 types, therefore the nurses needed to understand each women's meaning to health lifestyle so they could develop the appropriate nursing intervention based the typology of the health lifestyle this study explored.
