  • The possibility of citron seed oil for use as food resources of fats was tested by analyzing the composition of fatty acid and oxidative stability. Oil yield from citron seed was 55.4% in without roasting and 56.8% with roasting. Total mineral content in citron seed without and with roasting were 2,820.33 mg/kg, 1,702.55 mg/kg, respectively. For all citron seed oils tested, the potassium content was found to be the highest among four kinds of minerals detected in this study. Further, major fatty acids detected in the citron seed oils were linoleic acid, oleic acid and palmitic acid. Their relative contents with respect to total fatty acid contents were 77.12% in without roasting and 67.67% in with roasting. This result indicated that roasting the citron seed decreased the acid contents. However, POV (peroxide value) and acid value of citron seed oils were in,.eased significantly with increasing the storage days and heating time. In details, POV was $84.17{\pm}1.68meq/kg$ in without roasting and $76.46{\pm}1.19meq/kg$ with roasting, after 28 days. Acid value was $9.52{\pm}0.27mg\;KOH/g,\;8.35{\pm}0.09mg\;KOH/g$, respectively, After the 48 hours heating at $180^{\circ}C$, POV of citron seed oils was increased by 3.8 times, irrespective of roasting. Yet, acid value increased dramatically 8.3 in without and 6.4 times with roasting, exhibiting its dependence on roasting. During storage time, oxidative stability of citron seed oils was higher than heating.

  • When natural rubber is used for a long period of time, it becomes aged; it usually becomes hardened and loses its damping capability. This aging process affects not only the material property but also the (fatigue) life of natural rubber. In this paper the aging effects on the material property and the fatigue life were experimentally investigated. In addition, several fatigue life prediction equations for natural rubber were proposed. In order to investigate the aging effects on the material property, the load-stretch ratio curves were plotted from the results of the tensile test, the compression test and the simple shear test for virgin and heat-aged rubber specimens. Rubber specimens were heat-aged in an oven at a temperature ranging from $50^{\circ}C$ to $90^{\circ}C$ for a period ranging from 2 days to 16 days. In order to investigate the aging effects on the fatigue life, fatigue tests were conducted for differently heat-aged hourglass-shaped and simple shear specimens. Moreover, finite element simulations were conducted for the specimens to calculate physical quantities occurring in the specimens such as the maximum value of the effective stress, the strain energy density, the first invariant of the Cauchy-Green deformation tensor and the maximum principal nominal strain. Then, four fatigue life prediction equations based on one of the physical quantities could be obtained by fitting the equations to the test data. Finally, the fatigue life of a rubber bush used in an automobile was predicted by using the prediction equations, and it was compared with the test data of the bush to evaluate the reliability of those equations.

  • The physiological and biochemical responses of healthy men and women to life stress were measured in order to temperature, blood pressure (BP), heart rate (HR) and galvanic skin response (GSR) were selected as physiological stress indices and salivary cortisol level was used as a biochemical stres biomarker. Twenty six (male 14 and female 13) colege students were participated in the experiment. Female showed the significant higher value of salivary cortisol level (p<0.01), diastolic BP (p<0.01), and HR (p<0.01) than male. The difference of skin temperature between forehead and fingertip correlated significantly with salivary cortisol level (p<0.01). The LF(low frequency)/HF(high frequency) ratio of HRV also correlated significantly with salivary cortisol level (p<0.01). However, BP, HR and GSR corelated insignificantly with salivary cortisol level. We suggest that LF/HF ratio of HRV and skin temperature may be good indices for the assessment of life stress, and may apply to measure the stress level of individual in real time.

  • The purpose of this study is fatigue damage assessment for large sized casting parts (hub and mainframe) of the 3MW offshore wind turbine by computer simulation. Hub and mainframe durability assessment is necessary because wind turbine have to guarantee for 20 years. Fatigue life evaluation must be considered all of fatigue load conditions as the components are wind load transmission path. Palmgren-Miner linear damage accumulation hypothesis is applied for fatigue life estimation with stress-life approach. S-N curve for the spheroid graphite cast iron EN-GJS-400-18-LT is derived according to durability guidelines. Reduction factors were applied for survival probability, surface roughness, material quality and partial safety factor according to Germanischer Lloyd rules. To calculate fatigue damage, stress tensors, extracted from the unity load calculation from ANSYS is multiplied with time track of fatigue loads extracted from GH bladed. Damage accumulation is performed with all of fatigue load conditions at each finite element nodes. In this study maximum nodal damage value is under 1.0. casted parts are safe. This research was financially supported by the Ministry of Knowledge Economy(MKE), Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology(KIAT) and Honam Leading Industry Office through the Leading Industry Development for Economic Region.

  • High Speed Machining(HSM) reduces machining time and improves surface accuracy because of the high cutting speed and feedrate. Development of HSM makes it allowable to machine difficult-to-cut material and use small-size-endmill. It is however limited to cutting condition and tool material. In the machining operation, it is important to check main parameter of tool life and select optimal cutting condition because tool breakage can interrupt progression of operation. In this study, cutting parameters are determined to 3 factors and 3 levels which are a spindle speed, a feedrate and a width of cut. Experiment is designed to orthogonal array table for L9 with 3 outer array using Taguchi method. Also, it is proposed to inspect significance of the optimal factors and levels by ANOVA using average of SN ratio for tool life. Finally, estimated value of SN ratio in the optimal cutting condition is compared with measured one in the floor shop and reduction of loss is predicted.

  • Microglia have multiple functions in regulating homeostasis of the central nervous system. Microglia cells have been implicated as active contributors to neuron damage in neurodegenerative disorders. In this study, medicinal plant extracts (MPEs) were used to evaluate the cell-death induction effect in microglia BV-2 cells. Among 35 MPEs tested in this study, 4 MPEs showed less than a 30% cell survival after 24 hours of incubation. These were Foeniculi Fructus, Forsythiae Fructus, Zingiberis Rhizoma and Hedera Rhombea. The concentration showed that 50% cell death ($IC_{50}$) occurred with 33, 83, 67 Ed highlight: Please confirm wording, and $81{\mu}/ml$, respectively. For further study, we chose Zingiberis Rhizoma (ZR) which showed a reasonably low $IC_{50}$ value and an induction of cell death in a relatively narrow range. Western blot analysis showed that ZR-treated cells showed activation of caspase-3 and cleavage of PARP Ed highlight: When an acronym is first presented it needs to be spelled out in both dose- and time-dependent manners. However, the level of Bcl-2 and Bax were not changed by ZR-treatment in BV-2 cells. These results suggest that ZR-induced apoptosis in BV-2 cells occured through caspase-3 activation. The results also suggested that ZR may be useful in developing treatments for neurodegenerative diseases.

  • Modern technological progress demands the use of materials at high temperature and high pressure. One of the most critical factors in considering such applications - perhaps the most critical one - is creep behavior. In this study the stress exponents n were determined during creep over the temperature range of $90^{\circ}C\;to\;500^{\circ}C$ (0.4 - 0.85 Tm) and stress range of 0.64 kgt/$mm^2$ in order to investigate the creep hehavior. The stress dependence of rapture time (n') were determined over the temperature range of $200^{\circ}C\;to\;240^{\circ}C$ and stress range of 8.13 kgt/$mm^2$ to 9.55 kgt/$mm^2$ in order to investigate to creep rupture property. And the stress transient dip tests were also carried out for the internal stress ${\sigma}i$ over the temperature range of $90^{\circ}C\;to\;500^{\circ}C$ and stress range of 0.64kgt/$mm^2$ to 17.2 kgt/$mm^2$. The creep tests for constant temperature and stress transient dip tests were conducted in air with Al 7075 alloy under constant tensile load. At around the temperature range $200^[\circ}C\;-\;230^{\circ}C$ and the stress level 8.13 - 9.55 (kgt/$mm^2$), the temperature range $280^{\circ}C\;-\;310^{\circ}C$ and the stress level 1.85 - 2.55 (kgt/$mm^2$), the temperature range $380^{\circ}C\;-\;410^{\circ}C$ and the stress 1.53 - 0.91 (kgt/$mm^2$), the stress exponent in had the value of 6.2 - 6.65 but at around the temperature range $90^{\circ}C\;-\;120^{\circ}C$ and the stress level 10 - 17.2(kgt/$mm^2$), the value of 1.3, and at around the temperature range $470^{\circ}C\;-\;500^{\circ}C$, the stress level 0.62 - 1.02 (kgt/$mm^2$) the value of 1-1. Besides these results, at around the temperature $200^{\circ}C\;-\;240^{\circ}C$ the stress dependence of rupture time (n') had the value of 6.3. Finally, it was found that the value n calculated by considering the applied stress dependence of the internal stress were in good agreement with those obtained for the creep test. Then, it was concluded that the change in n was mainly attributed to the difference of the applied stress dependence of the internal stress and the ratio of the internal stress to the applied stress, and the creep rupture life may be represented as.

  • This study estimates the VSL(value of a statistical life) as well as the WTP(willingness to pay) for mortality risk reduction using sample selection model with data on liver cancer examination which is associated with little possibility of multi-purpose(i.e. joint production) in averting behavior. The marginal benefits of mortality risk reduction are estimated by applying for household production function model with medical expense and the time required for medical examination of liver cancer. Individuals are more likely to take liver cancer test if they are male, older, higher educated, those with spouse, smoker, more income of household, and more anxious about their health. The costs of liver cancer examination are statistically significantly affected with expected signs by size of mortality risk reduction, sex, period of eduction, those with spouse, and household income. The marginal effect of mortality risk reduction owing to taking liver cancer examination is estimated at 321,097 won. The costs of liver cancer examination are increased by 905 won with more one year of education period and by 1,743 won with more one million won in household income. On liver cancer examination, male spends more 12,310 won than female and those with spouse pay more 7,969 won than those without spouse. Therefore the VSL from mortality risk reduction due to liver cancer examination is 321.10 million won at mean size of mortality risk reduction and mean cost of liver cancer examination. The results of sensitivity tests on costs and effects of liver cancer test shows that the VSLs are estimated in a range from 160.55 million won to 642.19 million won.

  • To investigate the shelf-life of the brick share improved Meju, the effect of the storage time and packaged storage on the quality of Meju and soy sauce were studied during 90 days storage at $30^{\circ}C$. During the storage period, pretense activity was rapidly increased, and it reached the maximum value after 30 days of storage and then decreased gradually with storage time. By the sensory evaluation, the soy sauce from Meju which was longer storage was increased its brown color but less sensory quality on taste and flavor. The sensory evaluation score of soy sauces were closely related to the value of protease activity of Meju, So, it was shown that the protease activity was also the major index component on the quality control for the brick shape improved Meju. The protease activity of brick shape Meju was lower during Meju making but decreased slowly during storage period than that of grain shape meju. The values of protease of Meju after 30 days storage were 359 (O.D. at 660 nm/g) in non-packaged, 349 in packaged Meju and after 180 days storage were 207,205, respectively. It was shown that the shelf-life of the brick shape improved Meju was about 180 days by the basis (protease activity: 200 O.D. at 660nm/g) for quality control from the grain shape Meju, and it was longer than that of grain shape Meju. It was also shown that the packaged storage did not prolong the shelf-life of the brick shape improved Meju.
