  • The objective of this study is to apply Information Resource Management(IRM) methodology to corporate library and information units. The focus of the study fixes how to start, develop and establish IRM in corporations. The methodology of IRM is based on the way of integrating information contents and systems by information technology. The body of this study consists of three parts. Part 1 surveys the review of IRM progress, its definitions, its components, IRM policy, and IRM human resource. Part 2 suggests a modeling for IRM methodology, which includes the inventory for pinpointing each information resource entity(IRE), the analysis of information needs, the measuring cost of IRE, and the evaluation of information value. Part 3 investigates internal and external information resources of certain corporations and analyses the users' information needs.

  • This paper strives to shed a light on current academic resource sharing initiatives, and seeks the measure for the cooperative information resource management. It first attempts to draw outcomes and suggestions on the basis of issues and implications identified through the analyses in the aspects of management, service, and infrastructure of academic resource sharing in other countries. For this job, research methods such as interviews and on/offline literature review are employed. Specific projects to be analyzed via literature and web site review, although not detailed in nature, are National Technical Information Service(NTIS) and The National Science Digital Library(NSDL) in the United States, Intute of United Kingdom, and Australian Research Repositories Online to the World(ARROW) of Australia. Next, the paper discusses such an issue as the orientation of national level academic resource sharing initiatives based on the comparison of characteristics of current academic resource sharing project. For this, a thorough comparison on background, outlines and characteristics of the projects and analysis on the specifics of each project were conducted as well.

  • This study aimed to determine eco-friendly factors on the aspects of library service, materials provided or handled by the library, and programs including educational programs. Furthermore, it was setup to perform a trial evaluation for the eco-friendliness of the library based on the determined evaluation standards by this study. Results are as follows; First, regarding the question of 'Do employees of the library think that establishment of green libraries is necessary?', the employees of the libraries responded yes by 65.52%, but only 4.6% responded that it would not be necessary. Second, in analyzing the most important evaluation areas of green libraries according to the opinions of the libraries' employees, they were ranked in order: the indoor environment, energy and prevention of environmental pollution, and material and resource areas. Third, 11 areas were determined to evaluate the level of greening in the libraries; the highest averages were scored 510 for the area of energy and prevention of environmental pollution, 415 for the area of library resource, and 320 for the area of indoor environment. Last, the libraries were graded based on actual data according to the results to measure the level of greening, two libraries were graded as Diamond, the highest grade, accounting for 15.39% of all libraries; Gold and Silver grades accounted for another 15.39%, together five Certified graded libraries accounted for 38.46%, which was the highest rate among the libraries. Any library scoring less than 20% when compared to the full score was graded as Non-certified, and one library, which scored 15.06% fell into this category. The results of this study set up to serve as basic data for the direction of development for green libraries in our country, as well as reference for the employees of libraries in constructing or remodeling library buildings, establishing service infrastructure, providing information service, and planning library duties in an eco-friendly way.

  • Although social metadata has strengths in creating amount of user-contributed resource descriptions, its function is limited because of its non-systematic characteristics. This research proposed an alternative approach to semantic organization of social metadata. It analyzed the semantics of tags created in LibraryThing in order to provide bibliographic categories for describing information resources. Social information Architecture is adopted in generating the bibliographic categories so that social metadata framework can be constructed. This framework can provide the conceptual foundations for semantically organizing social metadata and is expected to be applied to the existing approaches to automatically organize social metadata.

  • As resource sharing becomes more active and complicated in academic libraries, a better understanding of how librarians-a key stakeholder-view the current level of resource sharing is needed. Using survey method, this study collected data regarding the Perception of 78 librarians with regard to interlibrary loan, document delivery, union catalog construction, shared acquisition, and community building. Overall, the respondents evaluated well-established forms of resource sharing(interlibrary loan, document delivery, and union catalog construction) more positively than less-well developed ones(shared acquisition and community building). Correlation analysis between perception of library/individual characteristics was conducted. Barriers to each of the five areas of resource sharing are also identified in the study.

  • This study is to represent the research trends of the resource organization in Korea through the analysis of 607 papers related with resource organization in 4,015 papers on journals of 6 library & information science societies from 1970 through 2010. The results of this study are as follows. The average yearly papers in the case of academic journals published 14.8 pieces. The year published the largest number of papers: 2005 and 2009. The order of the number of papers by the domain of resource organization: cataloging, classification, indexing and abstracting, metadata, subject analysis. And the research on basic principle or theory in the resource organization showed insufficient. The research on KDC classification, cataloging rule, metadata element has are usually presented for improvements. But most of the research is not empirical analysis or objective assessment but subjective judgments of the researchers.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the services provided to the patient based on the guidelines and standards due to the importance of the existence and role of the hospital library. The subject of investigation is foreign hospital library. As a result of the related search terms from search engine Google, researcher selected 90 overseas hospital library sites and examined the type of service based on guidelines and standards. As a result of the survey, services were provided mainly for 'basic service' and 'health information resource service' and 'health information resource service' was provided mainly for 'providing and delivering' rather than 'education'. 'Mental and psychological healing services' were found to be insufficient overall. The suggestion for providing hospital library service is as follows. First, it is necessary to provide library name and service that specialize only in patients. Second, it is necessary to expand bibliotherapy service, which is the center of hospital library service, especially providing culture, rehabilitation and entertainment programs, which are mental and mental healing services. Third, it is necessary to arrange human resources of health librarian and volunteer based on librarian.

  • The concept of the sharing economy, which has shifted the economic paradigm from possession to access to resources, is consistent with the traditional and current roles of public libraries. Thus, this research empirically analyzed the influence relationships between public library use and the sharing economy. Results showed that participation in public library programs serves as a motivational factor for satisfaction with and trust in the sharing economy, while the use of public library facilities and equipment is correlated with attitudes toward and participation in the sharing economy. The use of library collections positively influences sharing intangible resources such as knowledge, information, and personal experience. By contrast, checking out library resources negatively influences the recognition of economic benefits from sharing, which is contrary to claims of library communities. Based on these results, public libraries should aim to have a complementary effect on the sharing economy founded not only on information networks but also human networks grounded in social relationships.

  • This study was to suggest display of RDA resource type in OPAC efficiently. Literature reviews and users test and preference survey were used as research methods. The 4 ways for the display of RDA resource type were suggested. First, GMD and the resource type code(bcode2) invented by library itself as well as leader/06, 007, and 008 field should be used for converting AACR2 resource type to RDA resource type in the bibliographic records. Second, RDA resource type vocabularies applicable to Korean cataloging environment should be designed and described in 33X subfield ${\blacktriangledown}9$ and detailed resource terms described in 34X should be also expressed in OPAC. Third, two option is suggested as content type and carrier type display separately and as content type and carrier type combination. Fourth, 336, 338 filed, leader/07 bibliographic level, 008/30-31 Literary text for sound recordings, 34X field were useful to develop user centered resource type icon. This study would be able to increase the utilization of RDA resource types and help the users to understand the RDA resource type in OPAC.
