A Study on the Effective Management Plan for Small Libraries: Focus on Gyeonggi Province (작은도서관의 효과적인 운영방안에 관한 연구 - 경기도 지역을 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the local government's regulation on facilities and the operation method of the small library provided for in 'the Ordinance on the Support for Installation and Operation of Small Libraries', and investigate and analyze the satisfaction with the services and needs on the part of users of small libraries, thus suggesting an effective management plan for them. In this study, literature reviews and questionnaire surveys were conducted simultaneously using monographic publications, theses, legal materials and Internet sites. As for study results, an effective management plan for small libraries was suggested as follow with its division into five realms; that is, facilities, materials, manpower, programs and network.

  • According to alternation of Digital Information Environment. users require more complicated and variable services. This study refined theoretically definition, concept, and materiality of Information Commons which is introduced and diffused throughout U.S. Universities' libraries. Information Commons is not simple facilities and spaces of library, but it is a united service model that is designed to fulfill variable information requirements of users with offering cooperative services, coalition of human resources, physical spaces, and facilities of redefinitions. In order to successful introduction and construction of Information Commons, it should be preceded that approaching digital information resources, offering continual services, and integration of resources that focus on the users.

  • The Necessity of extending the local library become inevitable because of the swift increasing the volume of information and enlarging the accessibility and increasing the requirements approached to the latest information, caused by continuous development of communication techniques. But these requirements have been concentrated at the quantitative growth to some extent such as an unique and mammoth library at an region or some few independent libraries, never to be considered enough for the users' convinience so that these locational conditions impede the utilization of library As to this matter, this is a basic research what's the best selection of arrangement for establishing public libraries in the future according to the planning regional area and this is the purpose to present a standard of planning regional area in consideration with user's easyaccesibility and also the facilities selecting activities of user's character and set up a planning the basic data about facilities arrangement and space scale before unfolding it's own public service activities of public library as the role of the regional and social information center

  • The Olin Library in St. Louis was an important design competition for the United States in the 1950's, the rear of America's modern architecture. The participants of this competition were a variety of representative architects and groups of its time. With the library's functional rationality, the Olin Library competition was legible of the aspects of modern architectural flow. The competition required two demands. The first demand was absolute importance in character definition of place, which was to satisfy the site conditions approached from campus design. Secondly was related to interpretation of morphological symbolism in an architectural matter. The experiments of American modern architecture started to change its ideal goal gradually ; accommodating the altering public's code, at the same time, maintaining the original modern value was the reason to changing the ideal goal. As a turning point, the Olin Library should be understood as an important work, which divulged the value change of architectural interpretation.

  • This study investigates the antecedents of the complaining behaviors and complaint responses of the library and information center users based on the theoretical backgrounds and suggests eight propositions and conceptual model for the library and information center. It examines as the antecedents, satisfaction/dissatisfaction, attitude toward complaining, likelihood of success, materials/facilities/service importance, attribution, loyalty, and justices; and as complaint responses. exit, voice(redress seeking), negative word-of-mouth, and third party complaints.

  • The purpose of this study was to measure performance of university libraries, especially investigating the components of service quality and their relationship to the customer satisfaction. The result of the study was summarized as follows: First, the factors on satisfaction of library service revealed 12 factors such as access of information, quality of employees, suitable collections, issues related to civil petitions, equipments and facilities, timeliness, operating hours, use of information technology, library user education, reference service, public relation and individual service. Second, the factors of library service on customer satisfaction showed the following primary factors: suitable collections, issues related to civil petitions, access of information, equipments and facilities, timeliness, public relation, reference service, operating hours, and individual service. Third, the components of library service on customwe satisfaction showed the following primary components: availability, the number of books and journals, facilities of air conditioning, public relation, usefulness of retrieval system, waiting time for Internet use, operating hour, speed of repairs, receipt of civil petitions, use of non-book materials.

A study on the Development Strategies of Public Library in Iksan (익산시 공공도서관 발전 전략 연구)

  • In this study, based on the results of analyzing the facilities and operation of the public libraries in Iksan, several strategies that may contribute to its regional development have been established. The strategies are as follows. The first one is to hire more librarians to perform the role of libraries at the advanced level that are suitable for the ever-growing library facilities. The second is the plan for specialization of the libraries, which was proposed with each subject suitable for each library such as History Culture, Modern and Local Culture, Jewelry and Precious metal, Food Cluster, Female, Administration & Welfare, and Environment & Ecology by matching the urban policies and characteristics of Iksan with these library. The others are the operation of English library in the way suggested in this study and the establishment of youth library to build up the role of the libraries in educational city. Through these strategies, the overall function and role of the public libraries in Iksan can be strengthened and emphasized.

The Effects of College Students' Library Satisfaction on College Life Satisfaction (대학생의 도서관 이용 만족도가 대학 생활 만족도에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구)

  • This study aims to investigate the effects of college students' library satisfaction on college life satisfaction. In order to test this relationship, two surveys were conducted involving 360 college students at two universities in Seoul. The results of the first survey show that after controlling for the educational service satisfaction and facilities satisfaction, there is a significant influence of college students' library satisfaction on college life satisfaction. The second study added variables for the three components of library service quality (librarian service quality, library resources and service quality, and library facilities and environmental quality). The results of the second survey show that there is a significant influence of library service quality on college library satisfaction, and again a significant influence of college students' library satisfaction on college life satisfaction. Moreover, the results of two group analysis show that the influence of college library satisfaction on college life satisfaction is stronger in high usage group than low usage group. The theoretical and practical implications of this study are discussed.
