The purpose of the present study Is to suggest strategies for Improving cultural services provided by public libraries. First of all. it reviews missions of public Itbraries as well as meanings of these services for both the libraries and the communities they serve. It also reviews the current status of cultural services with the example of Kyonggi-Do. finally, five strategies for Improving cultural services are presented' differentiating library services from those provided by other types of cultural institutions such as museums and performing centers, as well as specifying the services In response to characteristics of the community they belong; utilizing community analysis and National Cultural Enjoyment Survey data; establishing national and regional support system; creating and Implementing library staff development programs in regards of cultural services; and finally, adopting marketing techniques in designing library cultural services.

This study aims at defining the concept of OPAC, tracing of research trends and development of it, and clarifying various methods of subject access and patterns of bibliographic searching in OPAC as well as strategies for improving to implement online catalogs. Although OPAC is so far the most user-friendly bibliographic searching method, there are still a lot of issues including online subject access in particular. Therefore a more effective and useful method for computer end-users have to be developed, for instance, improvement of an indexing system, a n.0, pplication of the classification system as a searching tool, a new design and construction of standardized thesaurus, betterment of user interface, introducing of expert system into bibliographic searching, establishment of subject authority file. Those would raise the success-rate of users seeking bibliographic information in the library catalogs. Korean libraries are in very early stage of OPAC implementation so that every efforts and concerns to improve strategies and techniques for subject access to OPAC have been strongly asked.

The social identities and role models of all public libraries originate from the historical and systematic development of analog collections and the high-quality digital contents. Therefore, collection development in public libraries should be treated the most important professional task. Based on these prerequisites, this paper analyzed the classical agendas of analog collection development and paradoxes of digital odyssey, and suggested the future policies and strategies of public library collection development in Korea.

The objective of this study was to evolve development strategies used as primary resources for the development plan establishment of public libraries in Yongsan-gu. To reach the aims of this research, this study examined precedent studies related to the status of domestic libraries operation and development plan. This research derived integral factors such as regional characteristics, library facilities, human resources, collections, and budges to be considered for analysis of the current situations. By using in-depth interviews with librarians and professionals, the operational and development plans of public libraries in Yongsan-gu were explored. The findings presented in this study suggested development strategies such as an expansion of library infrastructure and reading culture and development of regional specialization programs and redesign the management system.

The lack of human resource, budget and understanding in organization didn't allow the library in museum to accomplish its function fully. I tried to find the development strategies toward special library in abroad cases. As a result, I suggested the librarian's role change from manager to collector, the expansion of the specialized collection, the function as institutional archives, the construction of networking between libraries.

The purpose of this study is to seek sustainable development plans in which academic libraries comply with copyright laws without withdrawing their information services by focusing on the changes of the relevant regulations since 2000 when copyright laws were revised. The study deals with the followings in detail. First, the issues with library information services is examined, owing to the enactment, revision, and execution of copyright laws. Second, the histories of enacting and amending copyright laws related to libraries are considered. Third, various opinions and response measures as to applying the copyright laws to libraries are analyzed. Forth, based on the previous analysis, the study suggests response strategies that academic libraries accept for copyright laws and keep improving library information services.

Recently, the Ministry of Education is striving to move education and school libraries toward the information age and to create an atmosphere open education. School libraries need to be furnished with lots of useful materials for the curriculum of open education. The results of this study can be summarized as follows. 1. Marketing techniques can be adopted in the areas such as collection development, service fee, selection of the place of library, advertising, better library user organization etc. 3. School libraries should be total educational information centers to realize educational goal and the curricular. 4. Procedures for marketing strategies for school libraries are embodied in mission statement, environmental analysis, marketing audit, marketing mix, marketing segmentation, evaluation methods etc. 5. The 4 "Ps", product, price, place, promotion make up the marketing mix for school libraries.libraries.

The goal of this study was to evaluate vision, mission, strategies, and action plans from the long-term development plan for the B University's library, and specificity, measurability, achievability, relevance, and time-frame were measured and evaluated for each with SMART method. The results obtained through this study are as below : Firstly, SMART evaluation result for the B University's library was 3.80 for the vision, 3.97 for the mission, 3.74 for strategies, and 3.64 for action plans. Secondly, specificity of the long-term development plan for the B University's library was 4.06, measurability was 3.72, achievability was 3.68, relevance was 3.90, and time-frame was 3.58. Thirdly, the overall evaluation of the long-term development plan for the B University's library showed that among components from the development plan, the mission was the most superior while action plans had problems. Fourthly, in SMART evaluation factors, specificity was the most superior while time-frame had problems such that it should be supplemented in the future.

This study aims to provide marketing strategies for the public libraries in Korea. For this purpose, this study focused on four public libraries in New York, USA, which have been providing the most excellent library services on the world. And this study examined what efforts these libraries have been making for the development of community and information needs of customers. The data for this study were collected by literature review, participant observation at the public libraries in New York, and gathering law materials. And in-depth interviews with the librarians and related professionals in New York and Korea were also proceeded. As a result, this study suggested marketing strategies for the management of public libraries in Korea.

This study illustrates the process of the development of founding collection in public libraries. Specifically, this study surveys such cases of ten public libraries recently opened. It also analyzes current laws and standards about library collection and compares the criteria with the ones in various manuals and reports. For the study, supplementary data were also collected through qualitative interviews and brain-storming discussions with public librarians and other regional government officials who were in charge of the library construction project. For the suggestion to improve the quality of such founding collection, the researcher put the emphasis on the construction of collection development policy for the library, on the official collection plan, on the adequate volume of founding collection, and on the strategies for collection programs about regional studies.
