  • The purpose of this study is to suggest improvements of pharmacy field in the KDC 6th edition. To achieve this purpose, first, this study reviewed academic area and system of pharmacy. Second, we analyzed headings of pharmacy field from first edition to 6th edition. Third, we analyzed change process of classification items in pharmacy field. Forth, we investigated general problems concerning pharmacy field in the KDC 6th edition based on the comparative analysis with DDC, NLMC, and Research Field Code by Korean Research Foundation. As a result, pharmacy field of KDC has never changed since its 4th edition. And then, this study was added new subjects related to sections and subsections of pharmacy and suggested modern terminology. Also newly assigned pharmaceutics industry, cancer treatment and biological pharmaceutics fields under 518.7-.8 which do not use in pharmacy field for efficient classification.

  • Objective of this research is to point out problems of geographic division structure in current Korean Decimal Classification System and provide solutions. For this purpose key classification methods were divided to decimal and non-decimal classification methods and analyzed for geographical division principles. In addition, national institutes regional division standards from Korea, USA and Japan were researched. Through these analysis, we provided suggestions to improve the table of geographical division in KDC4 including public institutions administrative district classification structure relations and consistency, and other regional divisional standards (proposal) instead of typical administrative district reflecting various geographical conditions.

  • Cadastral Science has not been evaluated as an independent discipline according to Code of Research Fields of Korea Research Foundation. The purpose of this study is to find the problems of knowledge classification of Cadastral Science and suggest method of improvement. For the studying, analyzes the definition, objects of research, educational system and curriculum of Cadastral Science. Besides, investigates the condition of Cadastre classification on Code of Research Fields, DDC and KDC. This paper suggests that Cadastral Science can be restructured to the new Interdisciplinary Studies and moved to the upper division. The items of division and subdivision can be also added.

  • The purpose of this study is to establish the classification principle of archives for the May 18th democratic uprising in terms of preservation and utilization of it and to develop an integrated classification system for it. For this purpose, it was carried out by the previous research on the classification of records and institutional case analysis. Also, we developed an integrated provenance-based classification system based on the practical analysis on the data held in 3 representative institutions in Gwangju. This classification system was proposed by facets of 'provenance-material-period-media-subject' type. We also proposed the collection-based integrated classification system that reflects on the expansion of archivists' role and the trend of times.

  • This study suggests some ideas for improvement of mixing classification and illogical subdivisions arrangement of Statistics in Social Science and Mathematical Statistics in Natural Science on KDC. We investigate the characteristics, educational system, and curriculum of Statistics in Korea. Besides, we compare and analyze classification systems such as KDC, DDC, LCC, NDC and Research Fields Code by National Research Foundation of Korea. As a result, Statistics in Social Science is relocated and integrated with the subfield of Natural Science according to the academic background. Existing social statistics topics are subdivided into statistical research methods complementing social science research methods. The heading 'Probabilities, Statistical mathematics' in Natural Science is changed to 'Statistics', and the subdivisions are expanded and revised.

  • In this research, the first the characteristics of community-oriented vocabulary are investigated with preceding researches which are ULIS-DL and Digital Okayama Dai-Hyakka(DODH). The second this paper proposes a few mapping schemes to connect community directories and compares them by applying them to the resource directories of three local governments Tokyo and Hokkaido in Japan and Chungcheongnam-do in Korea. The mapping schemes use National Diet Library Subject Heading(NDLSH) and/or Nippon Decimal Classification(NDC) as a switching language. Evaluation of the proposed schemes shows their advantages and limitations.

  • This study investigated general problems concerning the food and nutrition field in the KDC 4th edition based comparative analysis DOC, NDC, and Disciplinary Classification System of Korean Research Foundation, and suggested on some ideas for the improvements of them. Results of the study is summarized as follows. First, the knowledge classification of the food and nutrition field is divided by nutrition, food, and food service management. Second, the library classification of the food and nutrition field deals separately with nutrition and food, namely the nutrition is subdivided in medical science and food is subdivided in home economics. Third, the food and nutrition field in the KDC 4th edition had to be improved to use current terminology, to choose appropriate headings, and to subdivide the subjects more to introduce new topics.

  • The research was conducted to investigate factors that facilitate users' finding books by analyzing classifications in public library and bookstore. This research was based on the assumption that the users' needs and information behaviors are similar in both public library and bookstore. The main purpose of this study is not to recommend classifying public library collections the way a bookstore does, but to figure out what makes the users' book finding more convenient by analyzing the classifications. To carry out the research, users' book finding in public library and classifications of public library and bookstore are analyzed. Then, a survey was conducted to investigate users' book finding behaviors, degree of convenience in finding books according to different classifications and the causes of the convenience. The results of the research showed that bookstore's classification was more convenient for the users in finding books.

  • As the development of advertising industry and media the research about an advertisement get accomplished. As the result information resources called on the advertising materials are on an Increasing trend. However, it looks into the classification system In advertising field of KDC, the problems are as the follows : (1) the classification items are too incomplete, (2) the main class is badly arranged. The reason have no regard for the correlation with a science. So, it gives rise to confusion to the librarian and user. The purpose of the study is to present the improvement plan on the classification system in advertising field of KDC. In order to build the improvement plan, the four steps are utilized. The first step Is to investigate the characteristic of sciences on advertising and a type. The second one is to survey the current status of the library classification as KDC, NDC, DDC, and LCC. The third one is to analyse the classification system of library and web site on the advertising. The forth one is to grasp the problems on the classification system In advertising field of KDC.

  • It seems obvious that the spatial information of existing architectural heritage will be re-structured utilizing BIM technology. In the future to be able to implement such task, a new system of classification of spatial information, which fit to the structural nature of architectural heritage is necessary. This paper intend to suggest the conceptual model that can be the base of establishing new classification system for architectural heritage. For this study we reviewed researches related to classification system of architectural heritage (CS-AH) and BIM based architectural heritage (BIM-AH), first. As a result, we found that CS-AH is focused on building elevation and type, and BIM-AH is biased on the Library and Parametric Modeling. Second, we figured out a relationship between the CS-AH and BIM-AH. From this analysis, we found that BIM-AH is biased on Library and Parametric since the building elevation and type was focused on CS-AH. This review suggests a potential of the 3D CS-AH to expand the range of research for BIM-AH. At last, we suggest the three concept of classification are: 1)horizontality-accumulation relationship, 2)structure-infill relationship, 3)segment-member relationship. These three concept, together as one system of classification, could provide useful framework of new classification system of spatial information for architectural heritage.
