Performance Evaluation of Recurrent Neural Network Algorithms for Recommendation System in E-commerce (전자상거래 추천시스템을 위한 순환신경망 알고리즘들의 성능평가)

  • Due to the advance of e-commerce systems, the number of people using online shopping and products has significantly increased. Therefore, the need for an accurate recommendation system is becoming increasingly more important. Recurrent neural network is a deep-learning algorithm that utilizes sequential information in training. In this paper, an evaluation is performed on the application of recurrent neural networks to recommendation systems. We evaluated three recurrent algorithms (RNN, LSTM and GRU) and three optimal algorithms(Adagrad, RMSProp and Adam) which are commonly used. In the experiments, we used the TensorFlow open source library produced by Google and e-commerce session data from RecSys Challenge 2015. The results using the optimal hyperparameters found in this study are compared with those of RecSys Challenge 2015 participants.

Hardware Implementation of a Fast Inter Prediction Engine for MPEG-4 AVC (MPEG-4 AVC를 위한 고속 인터 예측기의 하드웨어 구현)

  • In this paper, we propose an advanced hardware architecture for the fast inter prediction engine of the video coding standard MPEG-4 AVC. We describe the algorithm and derive the hardware architecture emphasizing and real time operation of the quarter_pel based motion estimation. The fast inter prediction engine is composed of block segmentation, motion estimation, motion compensation, and the fast quarter_pel calculator. The proposed architecture has been verified by ARM-interfaced emulation board using Excalibur & Virtex2 FPGA, and also by synthesis on Samsung 0.18 um CMOS technology. The synthesis result shows that the proposed hardware can operate at 62.5MHz. In this case, it can process about 88 QCIF video frames per second. The hardware is being used as a core module when implementing a complete MPEG-4 AVC video encoder chip for real-time multimedia application.

  • The additional mechanism Is required to set up a secure connection among the communication subjects in the internet environment. Each entity should transfer and receive the encrypted and hashed data to guarantee the data integrity. Also, the mutual authentication procedure should be processed using a secure communication protocol. The SSL/TLS is a protocol which creates the secure communication channel among the communication subjects and sends/receives a data. Although the OpenSSL which implements the TLS is using by many developers and its stability and performance are proved, it has a difficulty in using because of its large size. So, this Paper designs and implements the secure communication which the users can use easily by modification works of OpenSSL library API. We proved the real application results using the DRM client/server case which supports a secure communication using the implemented API.

The Analysis of Traditional Korean Medicine's Information Circumstance and the Future Plan of OASIS (한의학 정보환경의 변화와 오아시스의 미래전략)

  • Objectives: Current information & communication technology is advancing very rapidly and the ripple effects are spreading all over society traditional Korean medicine (TKM) is no exception. We draw up afuture plan and target system's architecture of KIOM's OASIS to follow the information change and reinforce the supporting infra for TKM research. Methods: First, we analyzed the information circumstances of western and eastern medicine, both overseas and domestic, especially investigating the detailed changes domestically. Second, we grasped the present conditions of OASIS and compared it with other information portals. Finally, we drew a future plan and system architecture from the analysis results. Results: First, the information status of western medicine is much more advanced than TKM's, and overseas information circumstances are likewise more developed than domestics. Second, we found that OASIS is performing the central research infra role well in TKM. Finally we designed an information system architecture which is composed of an infra layer, an application layer and a service layer. Conclusion: We must integrate information materials such as literature, research manpower, facilities and standards to make TKM's knowledge portal successful. In detail, we have to make TKM's information classification code, build up the electronic TKM library and offer complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) trends.

A Novel pH-Stable, Bifunctional Xylanase Isolated from a Deep-Sea Microorganism, Demequina sp. JK4

  • A genomic library was constructed to clone a xylanase gene (Mxyn10) from Demequina sp. JK4 isolated from a deep sea. Mxyn10 encoded a 471 residue protein with a calculated molecular mass of 49 kDa. This protein showed the highest sequence identity (70%) with the xylanase from Streptomyces lividans. Mxyn10 contains a catalytic domain that belongs to the glycoside hydrolase family 10 (GH10) and a carbohydrate-binding module (CBM) belonging to family 2. The optimum pH and temperature for enzymatic activity were pH 5.5 and $55^{\circ}C$, respectively. Mxyn10 exhibited good pH stability, remaining stable after treatment with buffers ranging from pH 3.5 to 10.0. The protein was not significantly affected by a variety of chemical reagents, including some compounds that usually inhibit the activity of other related enzymes. In addition, Mxyn10 showed activity on cellulose. These properties mark Mxyn10 as a potential enzyme for industrial application and saccharification processes essential for bioethanol production.

Electrophysiological Responses of ${\delta}-Opioid$ Receptor Expressed on HEK293 Cells

  • To explore electrophysiological properties of the ${\delta}-Opioid$ receptors artificially expressed in the mammalian cell, effect of an opioid agonist DPDPE $(1\;{\mu}M)$ on the voltage-sensitive outward currents was examined in the HEK293 (human embryonic kidney) cells transfected with ${\delta}-Opioid$ receptor cDNA cloned from NG-108-15 $(neuroblastoma\;{\times}\;glioma\;hybrid)$ cDNA library. Also studied were effects of 8-bromo-cyclic AMP and naloxone on DPDPE-induced changes in the voltage sensitive outward current. The voltage sensitive outward currents were recorded using perforated patch technique at room temperature. In the non-transformed HEK293 cells, DPDPE did not alter voltage sensitive outward current, indicating that no native ${\delta}-Opioid$ receptor had been developed. However, $(1\;{\mu}M)$ DPDPE remarkably increased the voltage sensitive outward current in the transformed HEK293 cells. The increment in voltage sensitive outward current peaked in $7{\sim}10\;minutes$ after DPDPE application, and the maximum DPDPE-activated outward current $(313.1{\pm}12.3\;pA)$ was recorded when the membrane potential was depolarized to +70mv. Following pretreatment of the transformed HEK293 cells with 1 mM 8-bromo-cyclic AMP, DPDPE failed to increase the voltage sensitive outward currents. On the other hand, naloxone completely abolished DPDPE-activated voltage sensitive outward current in the transformed HEK293 cells. The results of present study suggest that in the transformed HEK293 cells an activation of the ${\delta}-Opioid$ receptors by an opioid agonist DPDPE increases the voltage-sensitive potassium current as a result of decrement in cyclic AMP level.

A Review Study of Researches on Jakyakgamcho-tang (작약감초탕(芍藥甘草湯)의 연구동향(硏究動向) 분석(分析))

  • Objectives : Jakyakgamcho-tang has been used to treat muscular tension, spasm and pain. On this study, new clinical uses of Jakyakgamcho-tang were confirmed and the other pharmacological results were summarized by analysing trends of modern experimental studies and clinical studies. Methods : Papers related to Jakyakgamcho-tang were searched on PUBMED, RISS, and National Assembly Library, and classified by categories and effects of clinical application and a variety of experiment around abstract. Also, figures were used for sketching out a timeline of expressing when these papers were read and core research content was described as a digest for identifying research trends. Results : Until today, there are 104 researches about the antispasmodic, analgesic, anti-inflammatory effects of Jakyakgamcho-tang. In total, 91 papers were analyzed in this study. In matter of subject, researches on the antispasmodic effects were 17 cases, researches on the analgesic effects were 14 cases, researches on gynecological therapeutics were 14 cases, researches on pharmacokinetics were 12 cases, researches on the constituent identification were 7 cases, studies about constituents efficacy were 6 cases, studies about interactions with drugs were 6 cases. Conclusion : The traditional use of Jakyakgamcho-tang on muscle tension, spasm and pain has proven to have effects through the experimental evidences. Other effects of Jakyakgamcho-tang such as gynecological therapeutics, anti-inflammatory effects, are now emerging as a new area in clinical use. Futhermore as an auxiliary treatment, Jakyakgamcho-tang is a good alternative for muscle cramps during maintenance of hemodialysis, myalgia or arthralgia induced by anticancer drugs, amenorrhea induced by neuroleptics.

Integrated Middleware for Real-Time Device Drivers on Windows (윈도우즈 상에서 실시간 디바이스 드라이버를 위한 통합 미들웨어)

  • For the case of test equipments requiring data accuracy, real-time is highly required in acceptance test for performance evaluation of developed weapons. For convenience' sake, test equipments are usually developed using Windows. However Windows does not support real-time in itself. Thus, in this paper, so as to reduce development time and expenses, we design and implement an integrated middleware for real-time device drivers using RTiK-MP. Using DLL, we also support user API's for the sake of development convenience without details of the complex RTiK-MP structure. We evaluate the performance of the proposed integrated middleware using the RDTSC command which returns the number of CPU clock ticks. The evaluation results show that it operates correctly within error ranges in the periods of 1ms and 4ms for the cases of TCP/IP and RS-232, respectively.

A Novel Esterase from a Marine Metagenomic Library Exhibiting Salt Tolerance Ability

  • A putative lipolytic enzyme gene, named as est9x, was obtained from a marine microbial metagenome of the South China Sea. Sequence analysis showed that Est9X shares lower than 27% sequence identities with the characterized lipolytic enzymes, but possesses a catalytic triad highly conserved in lipolytic enzymes of the ${\alpha}/{\beta}$ hydrolase superfamily. By phylogenetic tree construction, Est9X was grouped into a new lipase/esterase family. To understand Est9X protein in depth, it was recombinantly expressed, purified, and biochemically characterized. Within potential hydrolytic activities, only lipase/esterase activity was detected for Est9X, confirming its identity as a lipolytic enzyme. When using p-nitrophenol esters with varying lengths of fatty acid as substrates, Est9X exhibited the highest activity to the C2 substrate, indicating it is an esterase. The optimal activity of Est9X occurred at a temperature of $65^{\cric}C$, and Est9X was pretty stable below the optimum temperature. Distinguished from other salt-tolerant esterases, Est9X's activity was tolerant to and even promoted by as high as 4 M NaCl. Our results imply that Est9X is a unique esterase and could be a potential candidate for industrial application under extreme conditions.

Efficient Browsing Method based on Metadata of Video Contents (동영상 컨텐츠의 메타데이타에 기반한 효율적인 브라우징 기법)

  • The advancement of information technology along with the proliferation of communication and multimedia has increased the demand of digital contents. Video data of digital contents such as VOD, NOD, Digital Library, IPTV, and UCC are getting more permeated in various application fields. Video data have sequential characteristic besides providing the spatial and temporal information in its 3D format, making searching or browsing ineffective due to long turnaround time. In this paper, we suggest ATVC(Authoring Tool for Video Contents) for solving this issue. ATVC is a video editing tool that detects key frames using visual rhythm and insert metadata such as keywords into key frames via XML tagging. Visual rhythm is applied to map 3D spatial and temporal information to 2D information. Its processing speed is fast because it can get pixel information without IDCT, and it can classify edit-effects such as cut, wipe, and dissolve. Since XML data save key frame information via XML tag and keyword information, it can furnish efficient browsing.
