The Effect of Vitamin B-2 and (or) Vitamin B-6 Deficiency on Hematologic Profile in Rats (Vitamin B-2와 (또는 ) Vitamin B-6 결핍이 흰쥐의 Hematologic Profile에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to determine if vitamin B-2 and vitamin B-6 deficiency affects hematologic profile in vivo. Rats were fed a vitamin B-2 deficient (-B2) diet or a vitamin B-6 deficient (- B6) diet or a combined vitamin B-2 and vitamin B-6 deficient (-B2-B6) diet or a control diet for 6 weeks. Hematocrit (Ht), hemoglobin (Hb), plasma iron (PI), transferrin saturation (TS) and liver iron concentration (LI) were compared. In -B2 rats vs. control rats, PI, TS and LI were significantly lower but Ht and Hb were not. In - B6 rats vs. control, Ht and Hb were significanty lower but LI was higher. The -B2-B6 rats had intermediate effects in Hb, PI, TS and LI and a decrease in Ht. The repletion with a contro diet for 2 weeks resulted in significant improvements in hematologic indices and LI in both - B2 rats and - B6 rats. This study suggests that the intakes of vitamin B-2 and vitamin B-6 are important for preventive and therap\ulcornereutic approaches to improve the hematologic status in nutritionally anemic groups.

Effect of SiO2/B2O3 ratio on Li ion conductivity of a Li2O-B2O3-SiO2 glass electrolyte

  • A lithium ion conducting borosilicate glass was fabricated by a conventional melt quenching technique from a mixture of Li2CO3, B2O3 and SiO2 powders. The Li ion conductivity of the lithium borosilicate glasses was evaluated in terms of the SiO2/B2O3 ratio. In the Li2O-B2O3-SiO2 ternary glass, the glass forming region decreases with an increasing Li2O content. At the same Li2O, the crystallization tendency of the glass samples increases with the SiO2/B2O3 ratio, resulting in a reduced glass forming region in the Li2O-B2O3-SiO2 ternary glass. The electrical conductivity moderately depends on the SiO2/B2O3 ratio in the Li2O-B2O3-SiO2 ternary glass. The conductivity of the glasses slightly increases with the SiO2/B2O3 ratio. The observed phenomenon can be explained by the modification of the glass structure as a function of the SiO2 content.

Electrochemical Behavior of Li-B Alloy Anode - Liquid Cadmium Cathode (LCC) System for Electrodeposition of Nd in LiCl-KCl

  • The performance of Li-B alloy as anode for molten salt electrolysis was firstly investigated. The crystalline phase of the prepared Li-B alloy was identified as $Li_7B_6$. The potential profile of Li-B alloy anode was monitored during the electrodeposition of $Nd^{3+}$ onto an LCC (liquid cadmium cathode) in molten LiCl-KCl salt at $500^{\circ}C$. The potential of Li-B alloy was increased from -2.0 V to -1.4 V vs. Ag/AgCl by increasing the applied current from 10 to $50mA{\cdot}cm^{-2}$. It was found that not only the anodic dissolution of Li to $Li^+$ but also the dissolution of the atomic lithium ($Li^0$) into the LiCl-KCl eutectic salt was observed, following the concomitant reduction of $Nd^{3+}$ by the $Li^0$ in Li-B alloy. It was expected that the direct reduction could be restrained by maintaining the anode potential higher that the deposition potential of neodymium.

Study on th growth of nonlinear optical crystal $CsLiB_{6}O_{10}$ (비선형 광학 결정 $CsLiB_{6}O_{10}$ 육성에 관한 기초 연구)

  • The fundamental conditions for growing $CsLiB_{6}O_{10}$ crystal, new nonlinear optical material, were investigated. Stoichiometirc mixture of $CsLiB_{6}O_{10}$ composition resulted in the crystal of the same composition in the process of heating at the temperature above $600^{\circ}C$. No phase transition was observed in the $CsLiB_{6}O_{10}$ crystal in the temperature range of $600^{\circ}C~800^{\circ}C$, and $CsLiB_{6}O_{10}$ crystal melted congruently at $850^{\circ}C$. When the melt of this composition was cooled at rates of $1~150^{\circ}C/hr$, glass state ingot was formed regardless of cooling rates. However, $CsLiB_{6}O_{10}$ crystals were formed directly from the melt at any cooling rate in the presence of $CsLiB_{6}O_{10}$ seed crystal in the melt. Transparent $CsLiB_{6}O_{10}$ single crystal was grown from the melt using the seed crystal at the growing rate of 0.06 mm/hr in the furnace having the temperature gradient of $100^{\circ}C/cm$. Analysis of the single crystal showed that the crystal belonged to the noncentrosymmetric tetragonal space group 142d and unit cell dimensions were $a=10.467(1)\;{\AA},\;c=8.972(1)\;{\AA}\;and\;V=983.0(2)\;{\AA}^3$. Optical absorption edge of the crystal was observed at 180mm and the crystal showed a good optical transparency (70% transmittance, sample thickness 0.5 mm) in the wide wavelength range above 300 nm.

The Accelerated and Suppressed corrosion of Zircaloy-4 Fuel Cladding in $LiOH-H_{3}BO_{3}$ Solutions ($LiOH-H_{3}BO_{3}$ 용액중 Zircaloy-4 핵연료 피복관의 부식가속과 억제)

  • LiOH-$H_{3}$BO_{3}$ 용액중에서의 Zircaloy-4 핵연료 피복관의 부식가속과 억제현상을 조사하고 이러한 부식특성에 미치는 Li 및 B의 영향을 해석하기 위하여, 여러 조건의 LiOH-$H_{3}$BO_{3}$ 용액을 사용하여 35$0^{\circ}C$, 165bar의 고온, 고압 조건에서 Zircaloy-4 피복관의 노외 부식시험을 수행하였다. 원전 수화학 모의조건에 대응되는 용액 중에서의 부식속도의 천이는 물 분위기에서 보다 빨리 발생되고 천이후 물 분위기와 거의 유사한 부식속도를 나타내는 천이적 후의 부식거동을 보였다. 한편 pH의 변화는 부식특성에 큰 영향을 미치지 않았다. 부식가속과 억제 모의실험으로부터, 산화막내로 침투하는 Li의 양이 용액중 Li 농도에 크게 의존하며, Li 농도가 일정하게 정해진 용액의 경우 B 첨가에 관계없이 산화막내에 일정량의 Li이 농축될수 있다는 가정을 제시하였다. 또한 B 첨가에 의한 부식억제가 B 또는 B-(OH) 화합물의 산화막내 Li 침투 억제에 의한 것이 아니라 일들에 의해 산화막내로 산화성 성분의 이동이 억제되는데 기인할 수 있음을 제시하였다. 부식가속 개시점에 대응되는 산화막 두께측정 결과와 용액내 Li 농도간의 관계로부터, 용액중 Li 농도가 높을수록 부식가속이 얇은 산화막 두께에서 시작됨을 알았다. 특히 노내조건에서의 핵연료 피복관의 부식가속이 산화막내 Li 농축에 의해 일어나는 부식특성으로 해석될 수 있음을 보였다.

Investigation of LiO2 Adsorption on LaB1-xB'xO3(001) for Li-Air Battery Applications: A Density Functional Theory Study

  • Li-air batteries have received much attention due to their superior theoretical energy density. However, their sluggish kinetics on the cathode side is considered the main barrier to high performance. The rational design of electrode catalysts with high activity is therefore an important challenge. To solve this issue, we performed density functional theory (DFT) calculations to analyze the adsorption behavior of the $LiO_2$ molecule, which is considered to be a key intermediate in both the Li-oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and the evolution reaction (OER). Specifically, to use the activity descriptor approach, the $LiO_2$ adsorption energy, which has previously been demonstrated to be a reliable descriptor of the cathode reaction in Li-air batteries, was calculated on $LaB_{1-x}B^{\prime}_xO_3$(001) (B, B' = Mn, Fe, Co, and Ni, x = 0.0, 0.5). Our fast screening results showed that $LaMnO_3$, $LaMn_{0.5}Fe_{0.5}O_3$, or $LaFeO_3$ would be good candidate catalysts. We believe that our results will provide a way to more efficiently develop new cathode materials for Li-air batteries.

Structures and Formation Energies of LixC6 (x=1-3) and its Homologues for Lithium Rechargeable Batteries

  • Using first principles density functional theory the formation energies of various binary compounds of lithium graphite and its homologues were calculated. Lithium and graphite react to form $Li_1C_6$ (+141 mV) but not form $LiC_4$ (-143 mV), $LiC_3$ (-247 mV) and $LiC_2$ (-529 mV) because they are less stable than lithium metal itself. Properties of structure and reaction potentials of $C_5B$, $C_5N$ and $B_3N_3$ materials as iso-structural graphite were studied. Boron and nitrogen substituted graphite and boron-nitrogen material as a iso-electronic structured graphitic material have longer graphene layer spacing than that of graphite. The layer spacing of $Li_xC_6$, $Li_xC_5B$, $Li_xC_5N$ materials increased until to x=1, and then decreased until to x=2 and 3. Nevertheless $Li_xB_3N_3$ has opposite tendency of layer spacing variation. Among various lithium compositions of $Li_xC_5B$, $Li_xC_5N$ and $Li_xB_3N_3$, reaction potentials of $Li_xC_5B$ (x=1-3) and $Li_xC_5$ (x=1) from total energy analyses have positive values against lithium deposition.

Fabrication of $Li_2B_4O_7$ Series Single-Crystal TLDs and their TL properties ($Li_2B_4O_7$ 계열 단결정 TLD 소자의 제작과 특성)

  • High-quality single crystals of pure $Li_2B_4O_7$ as well as $Li_2B_4O_7$ doped with Cu, Mn and Mg impurities (1.0mol%, respectively) have been grown from the melt of $Li_2CO_3+2B_2O_3$ by Czochralski method in platinum crucibles. To study the thermoluminescent properties, $Li_2B_4O_7$ series single crystal TLDs were made by cutting in the size of $4{\times}5{\times}1\;mm^3$. The glow curves show two or three peaks which can be easily deconvoluted. It is observed that room temperature($20{\sim}30^{\circ}C$) fadings of the dosimetric peaks of $Li_2B_4O_7$ series single crystal TLDs were about 10 % for 30 days. The relative photon energy response for $Li_2B_4O_7$ series single crystal TLDs were about 85 % when the responses were normalized to that measured with $^{60}Co\;(1.25\;MeV)\;{\gamma}-rays$. The measured data are in a good agreement with theoretical ones. The $Li_2B_4O_7$ series single crystal TLDs fabricated in this work can be used for monitoring personal and environmental radioactivity.

  • All solid-state UV lasers provide efficient, clean and semipermanent light sources for various applications, such as eye surgery, microchip lithography. $CsLiB_{6}O_{10}$ (CLBO) is one of the most suitable crystals for UV generation because of its small walk-off, large effective nonlinear susceptibility in UV region and high damage threshold. We produced fourth (266 nm) and fifth (213 nm) harmonic generation of an Nd:YAG laser (1064 nm) with $LiB_{3}O_{5}$ as a second harmonic generation medium and CLBO as a fourth harmonic and fifth harmonic mediums. Structural and Dielectric Properties of BST-MgO with $B_2O_3-Li_2CO_3$ Thick Films ($B_2O_3-Li_2CO_3$가 첨가된 BST-MgO 후막의 구조 및 유전 특성)

  • At first the $Ba_{0.5}Sr_{0.5}TiO_3$-MgO powder with $B_2O_3-Li_2CO_3$ were made by the Sol-Gel method. The thick films of BST-MgO with $B_2O_3-Li_2CO_3$ were fabricated on the $Al_2O_3$ substrates coated with Pt by the screen printing method. The structural and dielectric properties of the BST-MgO thick film with $B_2O_3-Li_2CO_3$, addition were investigated. The structure of the BST-MgO with $B_2O_3-Li_2CO_3$ thick films were dense and homogeneous with no pores. The dielectric constant was increased and dielectric loss was decreased with increasing the sintering temperature.
