  • As a basic study for cathode materials of {{{{ { {LiMn }_{2 }O }_{4 } }}-based lithium-ion secondary batteries Li({{{{ { { { {Mn }_{1-$\delta$ }Nb }_{$\delta$} )}_{2 }O }_{4 } }} ($\delta$=0.05, 0.1, 0.2) materials which Nb is substituted for Mn were synthesized by the solid state reaction at 80$0^{\circ}C$ and 110$0^{\circ}C$ respectively. The second phase {{{{ { LiNbO}_{3 } }} appeared above $\delta$=0.1 As the result of im-pedance analysis as the amount of substituted Nb increased the resistivity of grain boundary increased greatly. Compared to undoped-{{{{ { {LiMn }_{2 }O }_{4 } }} the electrical conductivity of Li({{{{ { { { {Mn }_{1-$\delta$ }Nb }_{$\delta$} )}_{2 }O }_{4 } }} decreased slightly but is charging capacity and potential plateau increased.

  • Lithium is a highly attractive material for high-energy-concentration batteries, since it has low weight and high potential. Rechargeable lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), which have the extremely high gravimetric and volumetric energy densities, are currently the most preferable power sources for future electric vehicles and various portable electronic devices. In order to improve the efficiency and lifetime, new electrode compounds for lithium intercalation or insertion have been investigated for rechargeable batteries. Solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) is a very useful tool to investigate the structural changes in electrode materials in actual working lithium-ion batteries. To detect the in-situ microstructural changes of electrode and electrolyte materials, $^7Li-^{19}F$ double-resonance solid-state NMR probe with a static solenoidal coil for a 600-MHz narrow-bore magnet was designed, constructed, and tested successfully.

  • Lithium-ion batteries have used the layered $LiCoO_2$ materials as cathodes, but Co is relatively toxic and expensive. In this regard, the spinel $LiMn_2O_4$ has become appealing because manganese is inexpensive and environmentally benign. In general, cathodes for lithium ion batteries include carbon as a conductive agent that provides electron transfer between the active material and the current collector. In this work, we selected Acetylene Black and Super P Black as conducting agents, and then carried out comparative investigation for the performances of the cells using different conducting agents with different particle size. As a consequence, Li/$LiMn_2O_4$ cells with Super P Black show better electrochemical performances than those with Acetylene Black.

In general, cathodes for lithium ion batteries include carbon as a conductive agent that provides electron transfer between the active material and the current collector. In this work, we selected Acetylene Black and Super P Black as conductive agents, and then carried out their comparative investigation for the performances of the $Li/LiMn_2O_4$ cells using different conductive agents with different particle size. In addition, their electrochemical impedance characteristic of $Li/Mn_2O_4$ cells using different conductive agents is effectively identified through a.c. impedance technique. As a consequence, $Li/LiMn_2O_4$ cells with Super P Black show better electrochemical performances ascribed to the significant contribution of feasible ionic conduction due to larger particle size than those with Acetylene Black.

  • The electrochemical properties of $LiFePO_4$ as a cathode for Li-ion batteries were improved by incorporating conductive carbon into the $LiFePO_4$. X-ray diffraction analysis and SEM observations revealed that the carbon-coated $LiFePO_4$ consisted of fine single crystalline particles, which were smaller than the bare $LiFePO_4$. The electrochemical performance of the carbon-coated $LiFePO_4$ was tested under various conditions. The carbon-coated $LiFePO_4$ showed much better performance in terms of the discharge capacity and cycling stability than the bare $LiFePO_4$. The improved electrochemical performances were found to be attributed to the reduced particle size and enhanced electrical conductivity of the $LiFePO_4$ by the carbon.

  • For electrode stability and the electrochemical performance of the Li-ion cell, it is essential that the active ingredients and unique additives in the polymer binder be well dispersed with the solvent-based slurry. The efficient procedure used to create the slurry affects the rheological characteristics of the electrode slurry. When successively adding different steps of Nmethyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) solvent to the cathode composition, it is evenly disseminated. The electrochemical performance of the Li-ion cells and the electrodes made with slurry formed by single step and multiple steps of addition of NMP solvent are examined. To preform rheological properties of cathode electrode slurry on Ni-rich Lithium Nickel-Cobalt-Aluminum Oxide (LiNi0.80Co0.15Al0.05) (NCA). Also, we investigate different step addition of electrode formation and mechanical strength characterization like peel strength. According to the EIS study, a multi-step electrode slurry has lower internal resistance than a single-step electrode slurry, which results in better electrical characteristics and efficiency. Further, microstructure of electrodes is obtained electrochemical performance in the 18650 cylindrical cells with targeted capacity of 1.5 Ah. The slurry of electrodes prepared by single step and multiple steps of addition of NMP solvent and its effect on the fabrication of 1.5 Ah cells. A three-step solvent addition on slurry has been found to be a lower internal resistance than a single-step electrode slurry as confirmed by the EIS analysis, yielding improved electrical properties and efficiency.

  • Energy storage/conversion has become crucial not only to meet the present energy demand but also more importantly to sustain the modern society. Particularly, electrical energy storage is critical not only to support electronic, vehicular and load-levelling applications but also to efficiently commercialize renewable energy resources such as solar and wind. While Li-ion batteries are being intensely researched for electric vehicle applications, there is a pressing need to seek for new battery chemistries aimed at stationary storage systems. In this aspect, Zn-ion batteries offer a viable option to be utilized for high energy and power density applications since every intercalated Zn-ion yields a concurrent charge transfer of two electrons and thereby high theoretical capacities can be realized. Furthermore, the simplicity of fabrication under open-air conditions combined with the abundant and less toxic zinc element makes aqueous Zn-ion batteries one of the most economical, safe and green energy storage technologies with prospective use for stationary grid storage applications. Also, Zn-ion batteries are very safe for next-generation technologies based on flexible, roll-up, wearable implantable devices the portable electronics market. Following this advantages, a wide range of approaches and materials, namely, cathodes, anodes and electrolytes have been investigated for Zn-ion batteries applications to date. Herein, we review the progresses and major advancements related to aqueous. Zn-ion batteries, facilitating energy storage/conversion via $Zn^{2+}$ (de)intercalation mechanism.

  • We report the discovery of Li-rich $Li_{1+x}[(Ni_{0.225}Co_{0.15}Mn_{0.625})_{1-y}V_y]O_2$ as a cathode material for rechargeable lithium-ion batteries in which a small amount of tetravalent vanadium ($V^{4+}$) is selectively and completely incorporated into the manganese sites in the lattice structure. The unwanted oxidation of vanadium to form a $V_2O_5-like$ secondary phase during high-temperature crystallization is prevented by uniformly dispersing the vanadium ions in coprecipitated $[(Ni_{0.225}Co_{0.15}Mn_{0.625})_{1-y}V_y](OH)_2$ particles. Upon doping with $V^{4+}$ ions, the initial discharge capacity (>$275mA\;h\;g^{-1}$), capacity retention, and voltage decay characteristics of the Li-rich layered oxides are improved significantly in comparison with those of the conventional undoped counterpart.
