  • The purpose of this study is to research and develop solid polymer electrolyte(SPE) for Li secondary battery. PEO-$LiClO_4$ electrolyte with plasticizer is very unstable. Passivation phenomena in polymer electrolyte cell was described by the SPL model. The time dependance of the impedance indicates that a passivation layer grows rapidly on the Li surface. However, the growing of passivation layer on the Li surface can be restrained by addition of zeolite to the PEO electrolyte. It suggested that addition of zeoliteto to the PEO-$LiClO_4$ electrolyte effectively controls the formation of a passivation layer on Li electrode.

  • All solid-state thin film micro-batteries consisting of lithium metal anode, an amorphous LiPON electrolyte and cathode of vanadium oxide have been fabricated and characterized, which were fabricated with cell structure of $Li/LiPON/V_2O_5Pt$. The effect of various oxygen partial pressure on the electrochemical properties of vanadium oxide thin films formed by d.c. reactive sputtering deposition were investigated. The vanadium oxide thin film with deposition condition of $20\%\;O_2/Ar$ ratio showed good cycling behavior. In in-siか process, the LiPON electrolyte was deposited on the $V_2O_5$ films without breaking vacuum by r.f. magnetron sputtering at room temperature. After deposition of the amorphous LiPON, the Li metal films were grown by a thermal evaporator in a dry room. The charge-discharge cycle measurements as a function of current density and voltage variation revealed that the $Li/LiPON/V_2O_5$ thin film had excellent rechargeable properly when current density was $7{\mu}A/cm^2$. and cut-off voltage was between 3.6 and 2.7V In practical experiment, a stopwatch ran on this $Li/LiPON/V_2O_5$ thin film micro-battery. This result means that thin film micro-battery fabricated by in-siか process is a promising for power source for electronic devices.

  • Electrochemical characteristics of a graphite/lithium and a $LiCoO_2/lithium$ half cell and a $graphite/LiCoO_2$ full cell were analyzed using a GCSOC (gradual control test of the state of charge) technique. The IIE (initial intercalation coulombic efficiency), which represents lithium intercalation property of the electrode material, and the $lIC_s$ (initial irreversible capacity by the surface), which represents irreversible reaction between the electrode surface and the electrolyte were obtained from the GCSOC analysis. Linear-fittable capacity ranges of IIE of graphite and $LiCoO_2$ electrodes were 370 and 150 mAh/g, respectively, based on material weight. The value of lIE for graphite and $LiCoO_2$ electrodes were $93-94\%$ and $94-95\%$, respectively. The value of IICs for graphite and $LiCoO_2$ electrodes were 15-17 mAh/g and 0.3-1.7 mAh/g, respectively. The value of IIE for $graphite/LiCoO_2$ full cell, used GX25 and DJG311 as a graphite, was $89-90\%$ that lower than that for the half cells. Parameters of IIE and IICs can also be used to represent not only half cell but also full cell.

  • Li-ion battery system is regarded as one of the most potent power sources for electrified power-trains. For the Li-ion battery system to be widely adopted in automotive applications, the performance, safety, and cycle life issues need to be properly addressed. These issues are closely related to the thermal management of battery system. Especially, the effective cooling module design is the core part for the novel battery thermal management system development. In this paper, an experimental approach was carried out as a basic part of comprehensive battery thermal management research. The main goal of this paper is to present a comparison of two cooling systems (air cooling and phase change material (PCM) based cooling) of the unit 18650 battery module. The temperature rise with different battery discharge rate (c-rate) was mainly investigated and analyzed for two types of battery cooling systems. It is expected that this study can properly contribute to providing basic insights into the design of robust battery thermal management system for vehicular applications.

  • The purpose of this research is to develop the lithium secondary battery. This paper describes the preparation, electrochemical properties of nontstoichiometric(NS)-$V_6O_{13}$ and characteristics of Li/$V_6O_{13}$ secondary battery. NS-$V_6O_{13}$ was prepared by thermal decomposition of $NH_4VO_3$ under Ar stream of 140ml/min~180ml/min flow rate. And then, this NS-$V_6O_{13}$ was used for cathode active material. Cathode sheet was prepared by compressing the composite of NS-$V_6O_{13}$, acetylene black(A.B) and teflon emulsion (T.E). Characteristics of the test cell are summarised as follows. Oxidation capacity of NS-$V_6O_{13}$ was about 20% less than its reduction capacity. A part of NS-$V_6O_{13}$ cathode active material showed irreversible reaction in early charge-discharge cycle. This phenomena seems to be caused by irreversible incoporation/discoporation of lithium cation to/from NS-$V_6O_{13}$ host. Discharge characteristics curve of Li/$V_6O_{13}$ cell showed 4 potential plateaus. Charge-discharge capacity was declined in the beginning of cycling and slowly increased in company with increasing of coulombic efficiency. Energy density per weight of $V_6O_{13}$ cathode material was as high as 522Wh/kg~765Wh/kg.

  • This paper describes the preparation and characteristics of a battery capacitor and module for solar power system. A cylindrical 30,000F battery capacitor ($60{\times}138mm$) was assembled by using the $LTO(Li_4Ti_5O_{12})$ electrode as an anode and $NMC(LiNiMnCoO_2)-LCO(LiCoO_2)$ as a cathode. The battery capacitor has reduced energy density and power density under high CC(constant current) and CP(constant power) conditions. Battery capacitor module (16V, 11Ah) was fabricated using an asymmetric hybrid capacitor with a capacitance of 30,000F. In order to determine the characteristics of the battery capacitor Module for solar power system, battery capacitor cells were connected in series with active balancing circuit. As a result of measuring the 100w LED lamp, it was discharged at the voltage of 15V~10V, and the compensation time at discharge was measured to be about 4979s. Experimental results show that it can be applied to applications related to solar power system by applying battery capacitor module.

  • The Li-air battery is a promising candidate for the most energy-dense electrochemical power source because it has 5 to 10 times greater energy storage capacity than that of Li-ion batteries. However, the Li-air cell performance falls short of the theoretical estimate, primarily because the discharge terminates well before the pore volume of the air electrode is completely filled with lithium oxides. Therefore, the structure of carbon used in the air electrode is a critical factor that affects the performance of Li-air batteries. In a previous study, we reported a new class of carbon nanomaterial, named carbon nanoballs (CNBs), consisting of highly mesoporous spheres. Structural characterization revealed that the synthesized CNBs have excellent a meso-macro hierarchical pore structure, with an average diameter greater than 10 nm and a total pore volume more than $1.00cm^3g^{-1}$. In this study, CNBs are applied in an actual Li-air battery to evaluate the electrochemical performance. The formation mechanism and electrochemical performance of the CNBs are discussed in detail.
