The development of suitable genetic markers would be useful for defining species and delineating the species boundaries of morphologically indistinguishable sponges. In this study, genetic variation in the sequences of nuclear rDNA and the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 and 3 (CO1 and CO3) regions were compared in morphologically indistinguishable Korean Halichondriidae sponges in order to determine the most suitable species-specific molecular marker region. The maximal congeneric nucleotide divergences of Halichondriidae sponges in CO1 and CO3 are similar to those found among anthozoan cnidarians, but they are 2- to 8-fold lower than those found among genera of other triploblastic metazoans. Ribosomal internal transcribed spacer regions (ITS: ITS1 + ITS2) showed higher congeneric variation (17.28% in ITS1 and 10.29% in ITS2) than those of CO1 and CO3. Use of the guidelines for species thresholds suggested in the recent literature indicates that the mtDNA regions are not appropriate for use as species-specific DNA markers for the Halichondriidae sponges, whereas the rDNA ITS regions are suitable because ITS exhibits a low level of intraspecific variation and a relatively high level of interspecific variation. In addition, to test the reliability of the ITS regions for identifying Halichondriidae sponges by PCR, a species-specific multiplex PCR primer set was developed.

This study was conducted to investigate the relationships between yearly variations of elimatic elements and yearly variations of productivity in potato. In addition, correlation coefficients among yield and yield components were estimated. The data of yield and yield components were investigated for 9 years from 1987 to 1995. The meteorological data what gathered at the Goheung Weather Station for the same period of crop growing season were used to find out the relationships between climatic elements and crop productivity. Yearly variation of the daily minimum temperature in March and April were large with coefficients of variation (C.V.) of 126.0%, 368%, respectively, but the variation of the daily mean and maximum temperature in May and June were relative small. Stem length and number of stem show more C.V. of 9.3%, 14.3%, respectively, but the variation of the yield was relative small with 3.7%. Correlation coefficients between the amount of precipitation in April and yield, yield and daily mean temperature in June were negatively significant at the level of 5, 1 %, respectively. Correlation coefficients between the growth habits and yield are positively significant at the level of 5, 1 %, respectively. Simple linear regression equations by the least square method are estimated for stem length (Yl) and the precipitation in April(X) as Y,=82.47-0.11x (R2=0.3959), and for yield(Y2) and the precipitation in April(X) as Y,=2003.61-0.94X (R2=0.5418).

The stability of slope using root-pile like to the reinforcements is affected by the interaction behavior mechanism of soil-reinforcements. Through the studying on the interaction in joint of its, therefore, the control roles can be find out in installed slope. In study, the stress level ratio based on the insert angle of installed reinforcements in soil used to numerical analysis, which was results from the duty direct shear test in Lab. The maximum shear strain variation on the reinforcements was observed at insert angle, which was approximately similar to the calculated angle based on the equation proposed by the Jewell. The elasto-plastic joint model on the contact area of soil-reinforcements was presumed, the reinforced soil assumed non-linear elastic model and the reinforcements supposed elastic model, respectively. The finite element analysis of assumed models was performed. The shear strain variation of non-reinforced state obtained by the FEM analysis including elasto-plastic joint elements were shown the rationality of general limit equilibrium analysis for the slope failure mode on driving zone and resistance zone, which based on the stress level step according to failure ratio. Through the variation of shear strain for the variation of inserting angle of reinforcements, the different mechanism on the bending and the shear resistance of reinforcements was shown fair possibility.
Background: Potentially avoidable hospitalizations (PAH) contribute to an increased post-discharge mortality. Methods: To investigate the between-hospital variation and the relationship between all predictors and mortality after discharge among older adults with PAH, we studied 15,186 older patients with PAH in 2,200 hospitals included in the National Health Insurance Service-Senior claims database from 2002 to 2013. Multivariable multilevel logistic regression analyses were performed to analyze the variance at between-hospital for mortality after accounting for differences in patient characteristics. Results: The between-hospital variation in mortality that could be attributed to hospital practice variations were 37.6% at 1-week to 13.9% at 12-month post-discharge, after adjustment for individual patient characteristics and hospital-level factors. Hospital-level factors significantly explained mortality at 3 weeks after discharge. Clinics, compared with general hospitals, demonstrated a 2.75 times higher likelihood of deaths at 3-week post-discharge (p<0.001). Compared with private hospitals, public hospitals exhibited 1.61 times higher odds of 3-week mortality (p=0.01). Conclusion: This study demonstrates considerable between-hospital variations in PAH-related mortality that could be attributed to hospital practices. Monitoring of hospitals to identify practice variations would be warranted to improve the survival of older patients with PAH.

Gloss is very important optical property influencing the perceived quality of the paper surface as well as the surface after printing. Although the average gloss level of paper products or printed images is important to meet end use specifications, the occurrence of gloss mottle, or non-uniformity of gloss, is often of greater concern for meeting quality requirements, especially for the high gloss paper. Gloss variation originates from the irregularities of paper surface, especially surface roughness of paper. Roughness of paper can be divided into micro-roughness (under $1\mu m$ scale in variation) and macro-roughness (over $1\mu m$ scale in variation) depending on the scale of the irregularities. A clearer understanding of the gloss variation of paper can be achieved by separating the contributions of these two scales of roughness, and characterizing them independently. In order to do this, a novel gloss measuring method was introduced. This can detect local gloss with very high resolution. The effect of macro-roughness on gloss variation, which was identified by the measurable surface topography, was separated from the total gloss variation by using this method. The effect of micro-roughness was then estimated indirectly. The local gloss variations of various paper samples were then evaluated to demonstrate the utility of this approach.
In remote sensing, images are acquired over the same area by sensors of different spectral ranges (from the visible to the microwave) and/or with different number, position, and width of spectral bands. These images are generally partially redundant, as they represent the same scene, and partially complementary. For many applications of image classification, the information provided by a single sensor is often incomplete or imprecise resulting in misclassification. Fusion with redundant data can draw more consistent inferences for the interpretation of the scene, and can then improve classification accuracy. The common approach to the classification of multisensor data as a data fusion scheme at pixel level is to concatenate the data into one vector as if they were measurements from a single sensor. The multiband data acquired by a single multispectral sensor or by two or more different sensors are not completely independent, and a certain degree of informative overlap may exist between the observation spaces of the different bands. This dependence may make the data less informative and should be properly modeled in the analysis so that its effect can be eliminated. For modeling and eliminating the effect of such dependence, this study employs a strategy using self and conditional information variation measures. The self information variation reflects the self certainty of the individual bands, while the conditional information variation reflects the degree of dependence of the different bands. One data set might be very less reliable than others in the analysis and even exacerbate the classification results. The unreliable data set should be excluded in the analysis. To account for this, the self information variation is utilized to measure the degrees of reliability. The team of positively dependent bands can gather more information jointly than the team of independent ones. But, when bands are negatively dependent, the combined analysis of these bands may give worse information. Using the conditional information variation measure, the multiband data are split into two or more subsets according the dependence between the bands. Each subsets are classified separately, and a data fusion scheme at decision level is applied to integrate the individual classification results. In this study. a two-level algorithm using hierarchical clustering procedure is used for unsupervised image classification. Hierarchical clustering algorithm is based on similarity measures between all pairs of candidates being considered for merging. In the first level, the image is partitioned as any number of regions which are sets of spatially contiguous pixels so that no union of adjacent regions is statistically uniform. The regions resulted from the low level are clustered into a parsimonious number of groups according to their statistical characteristics. The algorithm has been applied to satellite multispectral data and airbone SAR data.
It is very important to determine link composition of a crane in the basic design of the crane. There are many parameters in the design for the link composition of a double link type level luffing jib crane. We analyze the variation of link composition according to the variation of these parameters which are the angle of fixed link, the angle between the fixed link and backstay when the position of the crane is the maximum working radius, the ratio of fly jib length between two moving hinges to the total length of fly jib, the length of backstay, and the slewing radius. In this paper, we describe the application of the previous analysis program of the link composition design for a double link type level luffing jib crane.

Stable and sustainable power supply means maintaining a certain level of power quality and service while securing energy resource and resolving environmental issues. Distributed generation (DG) has become an essential and indispensable element from environmental and energy security perspectives. It is known that voltage violation is the most important constraint for load variation and the maximum allowable DG. In distribution system, sending voltage from distribution substation is regulated by ULTC (Under Load Tap Changer) designed to maintain a predetermined voltage level. ULTC is controlled by LDC (Line Drop Compensation) method compensating line voltage drop for a varying load, and the sending voltage of ULTC calls for LDC parameters. The consequence is that the feasible LDC parameters considering variation of load and DG output are necessary. In this paper, we design each LDC parameters determining the sending voltage that can satisfy voltage level, decrease ULTC tap movement numbers, or increase DG introduction. Moreover, the maximum installable DG capacity based on each LDC parameters is estimated.
The aim of this study is to investigate the inundation characteristics over coastal area due to the variation of sea level and plane arrangement of manholes using the 3D numerical model that is able to simulate directly interaction of WAve Structure Sandy beach(LES-WASS-3D). At first, The adopted model was validated through the comparison with an existing experimental data and showed fairly nice agreement. And then, the inundation characteristics over coastal area are discussed in relation to the variation of sea level and plane arrangement of manholes.

In this study, the influence of groundwater variation and surface settlement adjacent to the excavation site of subway station on $\bigcirc$$\bigcirc$ Gas station and the $\bigcirc$$\bigcirc$ building is analized. Measurement data of surface settlement, horizontal deformation and groundwater level are used to verify the results of Caspe analytical method and FLAC numerical analysis. Variation of groundwater level adjacent to the excavation site is modelled by the 3-D groundwater flow program, MODFLOW. The results of both the analytical method and the numerical method were quite close to the measurement data of surface settlement.
