  • Extracts of Artemisia asiatica Nakai (Asteraceae) have been shown to have anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative activities. Eupatilin (5,7-dihydroxy-3,4,6-tri-methoxy-flavone), one of the pharmacologically active ingredients derived from Artemisia asiatica, has been shown to induce apoptosis in promyelocytic leukemia (HL-60) cells. • To assess the role of 8-oxoguanine glycosylase (OGG1) in the cell defense against radiation injury, the radiation-induced cytotoxicities were compared between the mutant type KG-1 featuring a loss of OGG1 activity due to a homozygous mutation of Arg 229 G1n, and the wild type U937.(omitted)

  • 1. Extracts of the leaves of Eurya emarginata markedly inhibited the growth of leukemia cells such as HL-60, KG-1, U937, K562, and Jurkat. 2. When HL-60 cells were treated with the extract, DNA fragmentation, morphological changes and sub-G1 hypodiploid cells were observed. The expressions of c-myc mRNA were also dramatically decreased. 3. Cornoside and Eutigoside were isolated from the leaves of Eurya emarginata. 4. Eutigoside induced apoptosis through down-regulation of Bcl-2 expression and activation of caspases.

  • 2-Hydroxycinnamaldehyde is an active compound isolated from the Stem Bark of Cinnamomum cassia, a traditional oriental medicinal herb, which has been shown to inhibit tumor cell proliferation. In this study, we investigated the effects of 2-hydroxycinnamaldehyde on the cytotoxicity. induction of apoptosis and the putative pathways of its actions in human promyelocytic leukemia cells (HL-60).
