  • BLU(back light unit) is one of kernel parts of LCD(liquid crystal display) unit. New 3-D micro-lens pattern for LGP(light guide plate), one of the most important parts of LCD-BLU, had been researched. Instead of dot pattern made by chemical etching or laser ablation, SCS(slanted curved surface) micro-lens pattern was designed with optical CAE simulation. This study introduce the method of design using optical CAE simulation for SCS micro-lens, the new fabrication method of micro-mold with SCS micro-lens pattern.

  • Global consumption of aspheric lens will expand rapidly due to golbal transformation of the electronics based industry to optics based mechatronics. Especially, F-Theta lens is one of important parts in Laser Scanning Unit(LSU) because it affects the optical performance of LSU dominantly. Non axisymmetric machine based processing techologies are required to obtain high accuracy in utlra-precision aspheric core, the most important component in plastic injection molded F-Theta lens assembly. In this study, the core with non-axisymmetric aspheric shape which is used to emit the F-Theta lens was processed using the ultra precision processing technology and the shape accuracy of the core was measured. And the results there of were evaluated and compared with the emitted shape accuracy of F-Theta lens.

  • A lens system of a camera module for mobile phones is comprised of the composition and design of various shapes of lens. To improve responses such as the modular transfer function (MTF), a lens system should always be constructed by considering uncertainty that can be caused by manufacturing and assembly error. In this study, tolerance optimization using the Latin Hypercube Sampling (LHS) technique is performed. In order to reduce the computational burden of the tolerance optimization process and decrease the influence from numerical noise effectively, we use the Progressive Quadratic Response Surface Modeling (PQRSM), which is one of Sequential Approximate Optimization (SAO) techniques. Using this method, we achieved optimal tolerance for each lens and obtained reliability for satisfying user‘s requirements. In addition, through the design process the manufacturing and assembly cost of a lens system was reduced.

  • We present results of the analysis of FLS 1718+59, a galaxy-galaxy gravitational lens system in the Spitzer First Look Survey (FLS) Field. A background galaxy (z = 0.245) is severely distorted by an elliptical galaxy (z = 0.08), by gravitational lensing. We analyze this system by several methods, including Ellipse and Galfit fitting, gravitational lens modeling (gravlens), and SED fitting. Properties of the lens galaxy can be obtained: from Galfit we measure the effective radius and the average surface brightness inside it, and from gravlens we estimate the total mass inside the Einstein radius (lensing mass). We use these parameters to check that the lens galaxy is located on the Fundamental Plane. Also, we conduct SED fitting for the lens galaxy and estimate the stellar mass, and compare this with the lensing mass of the lens galaxy to check the M-L relation.

  • ACR(All Clear Reflector), also widely referred to as FFR(Free Form Reflector), were designed in general and intelligent ways using a NUDBS surface for the mathematical modelling of the reflector shape and artificial intelligence as the optimum design algorithm. An ACR, which consists of a continuous surface reflector and clear outer lens, offers styling advantages and provides a high quality light performance. The clear outer lens of an ACR remains efficient even with a highly inclined shape, as in the design of a sports car, as well as the complete clearness of the reflector surface eliminates the nuisance of stray light caused by the steps between adjacent segments of multi-faced reflectors. The application of an ACR to low beam lamp was so sucessful to obtain the sharp cut-off with the lens-free single-surfaced-smooth reflector. The design technique of ACR was tested with all types of lamps, including low beams, high beams, and fog lamps.

  • Spherical glass lenses are used in many optical industries. The curvature, eccentricity and height of a tool affect the surface roughness and curvature of lenses. The purpose of this study is the development and performance of a self-diagnostication ultra-precision lens polishing machine. In this paper, structure analysis is performed to reduce maximum displacement and to maintain outside the resonance region by CATIA V5. A spherical center setting gage is developed to increase accuracy of the manufactured lenses. The surface roughness, curvature and thickness of the manufactured lenses are measured and studied.

  • This paper presents the development process for a high-power diode laser for metal surface hardening. To combine the emissions from several laser bars, it is necessary to collimate the emitted light using an optical lens. Thus, to achieve a suitable power density and uniform beam profile, several optical layouts were proposed. To estimate the laser beam for a flat-top distribution, a numerical analysis was performed using the ZEMAX software, and the results were compared with the experimental results. With a focal lens assembled in a serial diode stack source, the design can utilize the advantage of compacting the overall beam size. Experimental results for a robotic system demonstrated the processing ability of this diode laser module in industrial laser hardening.

  • In this paper, we designed a lighting optical system using a freeform lens as a substitute for expensive gobo lighting. Unlike gobo lighting, freeform lens lighting does not use an image mask, and it can form and project an image directly on the lens surface using only a single lens, thus reducing the cost compared to gobo lighting. In order to verify the performance of freeform lens lighting with these advantages, we conducted an illuminance simulation. As a result, it was confirmed that it can replace gobo lighting because it has an illuminance distribution similar to the image we want to irradiate and a light efficiency of 47% similar to the performance of gobo lighting.
