Watering methods for soybean sprouts could be mainly divided into two groups of overspraying and underwatering. The study was carried out to determine the effect of water supplying method on growth, morphological characteristics, colour and cutting resistance of soybean (cv. Junjery) sprouts and culture temperatures. The morphological characters, fresh and dry weights were measured on the 6th day after their culture, but daily mean temperatures inside the plastic culture boxes were measured by data-loggers. Lateral roots were more formed in the underwatering method (UM) than in the overspraying method (OM). Although their total lengths of both methods were nearly same, OM had longer hypocotyl but UM did longer root than the other. Middle and upper parts of hypocotyl were more thickened in UM than in OM. UM showed more hypocotyl fresh and dry weights than OM. There was, however, no significant difference between the two methods in cotyledon, root, total fresh and dry weights although the culture temperature was higher in OM than in UM.
Soybean sprout decay during its culture should be one of serious problems. The study was carried out to clarify the effect of water imbibition and acetic acid treatments on growth and morphological characters of the soybean sprouts. The soybean seeds of 3 cultivars (cv. Eunhakong, Pungsannamulkong and Junjery) imbibed in pure water or 0.l% acetic acid for 3 minutes before soaked for 6 hours into 1 ppm BA solution and aerated for 3 hours immediately before 6 day culture. On the 6th day, the sprouts were classified into 4 categories on the base of hypocotyl length; > 7cm, 4 to 7cm, > 4cm and not germinated and seed floating rate, their morphological characters, fresh fraction weights and productivity were measured. The best water imbibition for seed cleaning was to soak the seeds for 5 minutes and then to aerate soak them for 40 minutes. In Pungsannamulkong and Junjery, percentage of the sprouts with hypocotyls of longer than 4 cm was higher in water imbibition than in acetic acid treatment for seed disinfection although in Eunhakong there was no significant difference between the two treatments. Eunhakong and Junjery had greater lateral root formation rate and its number per sprout in water imbibition than in acetic acid treatment but Pungsannamulkong showed reverse result. Eunhakong and Pungsannamulkong, furthermore, had more total fresh weight in acetic acid treatment than in water imbibition but Junjery showed reverse result, although there was no significant difference between the two treatments in productivity of mass production system.
Insect resources have been widely recognized that seven millions of insects exhibit it own biological activity by whole body or its metabolic intermediates. In order to investigate antioxidant activity and compare the cyclooxygenase-2 promoter activity from insect extract, we tested in vitro antioxidant assays and cyclooxygenase-2 promoter assay in Coccinella septempunctata Linne and Harmonia axyridis extracts have the anti-oxidant and cyclooxygenase-2 inhibition activities, we examined the anti-oxidant assays including DPPH, FRAP and linoleic acid, ana inhibition of cyclooxygenase-2 expression using a cyclooxygenase-2 promoter-inserted stable cell line. We found that Harmonia axyridis Pallas extract had potentials to anti-oxidant activity and inhibited about 25% of cyclooxygenase-2 transcription activity. These findings indicate that Coccinella septempunctata Linne and Harmonia axyridis Pallas extracts could be an useful insect resource for agrobiotechnological purposes.

Preservation stability of the extract from dried green tea produced in Jeju, extracted at $55^{\circ}C$ for 15 min and bottled in PET container after filtration and then settled at $4^{\circ}C$, indoor at room temperature and outdoor, respectively, was estimated. Color L-value was almost constant but color of the extract became darkened during storage, especially in indoor storage. Main catechins of green tea extract were (-)-epigallocatechin, (-)-epigallocatechin gallate, epicatechin, (+)-catechin, epicatechin gallate in order, and the content of epigallocatechin was 53.8%. Nevertheless total catechin content was not changed in cold storage, and $4.7\sim10%$ of total catechins were reduced in outdoor or indoor storage after 14 weeks. Caffeine content were increased but total polyphenols were not changed largely during storage. Election donating abilities (EDA) showed more than 60% without influence of storage conditions and periods. Nitrite scavenging abilities (NSA) showed more than 90% at pH 1.2, but those were decreased gradually as pH increased, and then disappeared at pH 6.0. Color, polyphenols, antioxidant activities of extract were not so changed for more than 3 months. Microbial growth was not shown during same periods, due to heat treatment of the extracts at $95^{\circ}C$ for 10 min.

As the economic matters are involved, applying the WEC, which is used for controlling waves as well as utilizing the wave energy on existing breakwater, is preferred rather than installing exclusive WEC. This study examines the OWC mounted on a pressurized air chamber floating breakwater regarding the functionality of both breakwater and wave-power generation. In order to verify the performance as a WEC, the velocity of air flow from pressurized air chamber to WEC has to be evaluated properly. Therefore, numerical simulation was implemented based on BEM from linear velocity potential theory as well as Boyle's law with the state equation to analyze pressurized air flow. The validity of the obtained values can be determined by comparing the previous results from numerical analysis and empirically obtained values of different shapes. In the actual numerical analysis, properties of wave deformation around OWC system mounted on fixed type and floating type breakwaters, motions of the structure with air flow velocities are investigated. Since, the wind power generating system can be hybridized on the structure, it is expected to be applied on complex power generation system which generates both wind and wave power energy.

In this study, the nonlinear interaction of irregular waves with wave breaking and currents around permeable submerged breakwater was investigated with the aid of olaFlow model which is open source CFD software published under the GPL license. The irregular wave performance of olaFlow applied in this study was verified by comparing and evaluating the target frequency spectrum and the generated frequency spectrum for applicability to irregular waves. Based on the applicability of this numerical model to irregular wave fields, in the coexistence fields of irregular waves and currents, the characteristics of wave height, frequency spectrum, breaking waves, averaged velocity and turbulent kinetic energy around porous submerged breakwater with the respect to the beach type and current direction versus wave propagation were carefully investigated. The numerical results revealed that the shape of wave breaking on the crown of the submerged breakwater and the formation of the mean flow velocity around the structure depend greatly on the current directions and the type of the beach. In addition, it was found that the wave height fluctuation due to the current direction with respect to the wave propagation is closely related to the turbulent kinetic energy.
Purpose: Canalicular laceration is relatively common due to its exposed, vulnerable location in case of facial trauma. Conjunctivodacryocystorhinostomy has been the standard treatment for canalicular obstruction secondary to unrepaired canalicular laceration. In spite of a high rate of relieving tear-duct obstruction, this method is noted to be associated with low rate of patient satisfaction and a number of complications. The goal of this study is to report the good results of delayed lacrimal stent implantation with Mini Monoka$^{(R)}$ for patients whose canaliculi were not repaired by initial surgery. Methods: From May of 2005 to February of 2007, four patients who underwent delayed lacrimal stent implantation using Mini Monoka$^{(R)}$ in canalicular laceration were retrospectively reviewed. First, the previous scar incision was made over the lower lid and we identified the cut end of proximal lacerated canaliculus. The Mini Monoka$^{(R)}$ was passed through the punctum to the cut end of the proximal lacerated canaliculus. We identified the cut end of the distal lacerated canaliculus, whose cut end has rolled white edges after careful excision of the scarred lid tissue. We then passed Mini Monoka$^{(R)}$ through the lacerated inferior canaliculus. Using an operating microscope, we placed three interrupted sutures of 8-0 Ethilon to join the canalicular ends. Silicone stent was left in place for 6 months. The mean age of the patients was 48.5 years (range, 35 to 59 years). The time interval from initial trauma to delayed lacrimal stent implantation was between 3 and 31 days. Follow-up periods ranged from 12 and 20 months. Results: The results of reconstruction were classified into normal, fair and poor. Patent lacrimal drainage systems were achieved in three of the four cases. In one case, epiphora was encountered. No cases of stent displacement, conjunctivitis or granuloma formation were encountered. Conclusion: Even though canalicular reconstruction was delayed for a long time, attempting canalicular reconstruction would be acceptable before considering secondary operations like dacryocystorhinostomy and conjunctivodacryocystorhinostomy.
This study was performed in order to evaluate the efficiency of groundwater well installed in alluvial aquifer that has filter layers, using laboratory experiment. We manufactured test equipment that can simulate dual filter layer and single filter layer and evaluated the initial volume of water intake, pumping efficiency, and long term stability using the experiment and analysis. In an early stage within 60 minutes, the case that took the dual filter showed an increase of 19.4 % in the initial volume of water intake compared to the case without it. It was found that after 24 hours of the test, the well installed with the dual filter showed higher than 68.9% compared to the well with single filter. It was calculated that it took 1.35 days to reach the point corresponding to the half of the water intake in case of single filter while it took 38.66 days to do so in case of dual filter. Therefore, it is highly recommended that the well with dual filter is much more favorable in the long term stability.

Augmentation rhinoplasty is one of the most popular aesthetic procedure in Asians. Numerous alloplastic implants have been used until now, but no accurate comparative analysis about the implant materials has been reported yet. This study in animal model was designed to determine the safety and effectiveness of various implant materials in augmentation rhinoplasty. The $15{\times}15{\times}2mm$ sized square shaped plate of $Gore-Tex^{(R)}$, silicone rubber, and $15{\times}15{\times}1.5mm$ sized $Medpor^{(R)}$ were implanted under panniculus carnosus of the abdomen wall of rat. And tissue specimens including the implant and surrounding soft tissue were obtained by en bloc excision in 6 months after implantation. The implants were estimated in weight and volume, and also the specimens were examined grossly and microscopically. The results revealed that increase of average weight 26.9%, decrease of average volume 55.4% in $Gore-Tex^{(R)}$ implant, increase of each average weight and volume 62.6%, 8.7% in $Medpor^{(R)}$ implant and very slight increase of both average weight and volume 4.7%, 1.1% in silicone rubber implant. Grossly, the $Gore-Tex^{(R)}$ was deformed, $Medpor^{(R)}$ was strongly adherent to surrounding soft tissue and the silicone rubber was well encapsulated and easily peeled off. Microscopically, silicone rubber showed foreign body reaction slightly and there were no inflammatory responses in all alloplastic implants. In our study, silicone rubber showed very proper alloplastic features for augmentation rhinoplasty due to causing no inflammatory response, no physical change, and no deformity.

Ingrowing toenail has been treated conventionally by various surgical treatment modlities. However, none of these procedures are perfect to achieve esthetic results with low cost, recurrence, and complication rates. Although mild cases can be treated conservatively, in severe recurrent cases, surgical treatment is preferred. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of using partial matricectomy and paronychial advancement flap for correction of recurrent ingrowing toenail. Eight patients suffering from recurrent ingrowing toenail were operated using partial matricectomy and paronychial advancement flap in our department from August 2004 to August 2005. The number of recurrent episodes ranged from 2 to 5. With digital nerve block, the excision area was marked on nailplate and inflammed lateral nail fold. The horizontally designed paronychial flap considering defect size was effective for wide exposure of the neighboring germinal matrix, which is later to be completely excised or cauterized because remnant germinal matrix made postoperative spicule formation. The nailplate on the affected side was removed about 3-5 mm width longitudinally, being cautious not to damage the proximal dorsal nail fold. The same width of the sterile matrix including germinal matrix was excised longitudinally with inflammed granulation tissue and partial lateral nail fold on the affected side. The subcutaneously elevated paronychial flap was advanced to cover the defect and was anatomically sutured with 5-0 nylon sutures. We evaluated our procedure's effectiveness by examining some factors such as cosmetic results, recurrence, spicule formation, postoperative pain and duration of return to normal activities. In eight patients, no complication was observed such as recurrence, severe pain and spicule formation except for 1 case of infection. Postoperative discomfort was minimal. Average duration of return to normal activities was 12 days. Cosmetically the results were acceptable in all patients. The partial matricectomy and paronychial advancement flap for correction of recurrent ingrowing toenail were found to be technically simple, efficient procedure with a relative low recurrence rate and better cosmetic results.
