Analgesic Effect of Syneilesis aconitifolia Maxim. Extract on Animal Pain Model

  • The aim of this study is to investigate the analgesic effects of Syneilesis aconitifolia Maxim. extract (SAM). We evaluated analgesic effects of SAM on animal pain model. Male SD rats were administered intra-orally with SAM according to prescribed dosage. During 7 days. After 7 days later, serum TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6 levels were measured by ELISA. In our experiment, administration of SAM decreased IL-1β, IL-6, TNF-α and PGE2 level in serum. Furthermore, it was confirmed that allodynia was relieved in evaluation of pain behavior. It was confirmed that administration of SAM reduces nociceptive pain by reducing nociceptive stimuli by acting as an anti-inflammatory drug.

The effects of non-condensable gas on condensation heat transfer on a super-hydrophobic surface tube (초소수성 코팅 튜브에서의 비응축가스 영향에 대한 응축 열전달 연구)

  • This purpose of this research is to observe the influence of non-condensable gas (NCG) on a horizontal super-hydrophobic aluminum tube and compare it with a bare aluminum tube. To achieve super-hydrophobic characteristics, an aluminum tube was coated with a Self-Assembled Monolayer (SAM). The overall heat transfer coefficient U was used to represent the condensation performance. The NCG mass fraction was the main variable, and its range was 0.08 to 0.45. The condensation performance of the SAM tube and bare tube increased with decreasing mass fraction of NCG. The SAM tube showed 1.9 to 2.5 times larger dropwise condensation performance than the bare tube. When the mass fraction of NCG decreased in the SAM tube, the rate of increase of the SAM tube was lower because flooded condensation occurred. In addition, filmwise condensation occurred in the SAM tube when more active condensation was generated, and its performance was lower than that of the bare aluminum tube. The flooded and filmwise condensation in the SAM tube is explained by the pinning effect. In conclusion, controlling the condition of the condenser is necessary to improve the condensation performance by surface modification a SAM.

  • Aluminium solid electrolytic capacitor in which electroconducting polypyrrole(PPy) is used as an electrolyte is studied. Pyrrole(Py) is electrochemically synthesized using the etched and anodized aluminium foil electrode($Al_2O_3$) as an anode on which the thin layer of chemicalpolymerized PPy as a pre-coating layer is formed previously by chemical oxidative polymerization(CP). Investigating the effects of the polymerization conditions on the electrical characteristics of resulting capacitors, the capacitors which were obtained from the galvanostatic electrolysis of pyrrole containing sodium p-toluenesulfonate(TsONa) under the currents of $2.0{\sim}4.0mA/unit(6.5{\times}10mm)$, showed the most superior properties.

Production of Bioactive 3'-Hydroxystilbene Compounds Using the Flavin-Dependent Monooxygenase Sam5

  • The flavin-dependent monooxygenase Sam5 was previously reported to be a bifunctional hydroxylase with coumarate 3-hydroxylase and resveratrol 3'-hydroxylase activities. In this article, we showed the Sam5 enzyme has 3'-hydroxylation activities for methylated resveratrols (pinostilbene and pterostilbene), hydroxylated resveratrol (oxyresveratrol), and glycosylated resveratrol (piceid) as substrates. However, piceid, a glycone-type stilbene used as a substrate for bioconversion experiments with the Sam5 enzyme expressed in Escherichia coli, did not convert to the hydroxylated compound astringin, but it was converted by in vitro enzyme reactions. Finally, we report a novel catalytic activity of Sam5 monooxygenase for the synthesis of piceatannol derivatives, 3'-hydroxylated stilbene compounds. Development of this bioproduction method for the hydroxylation of stilbenes is challenging because of the difficulty in expressing P450-type hydroxylase in E. coli and regiospecific chemical synthesis.

The Neuroprotective Effects of InSamYangYoung-tang(Renshenyangrongtang) on Aβ-induced Damages in Mice (인삼양영탕(人蔘養榮湯)이 Aβ를 처리한 PC12 세포와 생쥐의 손상 뇌신경조직에 미치는 영향)

  • Objectives: This experiment was designed to investigate the effect of the InSamYangYoung-tang(Renshenyangrongtang) extract on $A{\beta}$-induced AD model. Methods: The effects of the InSamYangYoung-tang(Renshenyangrongtang) extract on neural damages of cultured PC12 cells induced by $A{\beta}$ were investigated. The effects of the InSamYangYoung-tang(Renshenyangrongtang) extract on neural damages of hippocampal and cortical neurons in the mouse induced by $\beta$-amyloid were investigated. Results: 1. $A{\beta}$ treatment into neuronal cells activated cell death pathway when analyzed by MTT assay and by histological analysis. Then InSamYangYoung-tang(Renshenyangrongtang) treatment improved cell survival to a similar level as in normal group. 2. $A{\beta}$ treatment increased caspase 3 protein levels but decreased phospho-Erk1/2 in neuronal cells. InSamYangYoung-tang(Renshenyangrongtang) treatment reversed the production levels of two proteins close to those in normal group. 3. $A{\beta}$ treatment induced the atrophy of neuronal cells in terms of neuronal processes and cell body shrinkage, but InSamYangYoung-tang(Renshenyangrongtang) greatly improved their morphology. 4. Neuroprotective activity, as observed in InSamYangYoung-tang(Renshenyangrongtang)-treated groups, was similarly observed in cells treated with galantamine which was used as a positive control. Moreover, overall recovery pattern by InSamYangYoung-tang(Renshenyangrongtang) was similar between cultured PC12 cells and in vivo hippocampal and cerebral cortical neurons in the mouse brain. Conclusions: This experiment shows that the InSamYangYoung-tang(Renshenyangrongtang) may play a protective role in neural tissues damaged by cytotoxic substances. Since neuronal damage seen in degenerative brains such as AD are largely unknown, the current data may provide possible insight into therapeutic strategies for AD treatments. InSamYangYoung-tang(Renshenyangrongtang) might be effective for the treatment of AD. Investigation into the clinical use of the InSamYangYoung-tang(Renshenyangrongtang) for AD is suggested for future research.

  • development of the aerospace industry is increasing the research of projectiles. In addition, many tests are under way and many failures occur accordingly. Projectiles should be able to minimize failures because they are more dangerous than other electronic equipment. Therefore, it is necessary to verify wiring before powering the projectile. Accordingly, the wiring status was verified by resistance measurements. However, the wiring test of the previous resistance measurement method cannot be accurately measured due to devices such as capacitors and inductors in the projectile circuit. In this paper, impedance is measured in the connection state of cables and projectiles using a TDR meter. The Z-Segmentation algorithm is used to set the reference value for the measured steady state impedance. The Z-Segmentation algorithm first finds the peak values of the impedance waveform using a Kalman filter and obtains the final impedance peak segment through segmentation. In this way, the wiring status is determined based on the reference value for the normal state of the wiring.

  • Nanotribological characteristics of hydrophobic surfaces were studied experimentally using an atomic force microscope (AFM). Two kinds of thiolic self-assembled monolayers (SAM) having different spacer chains and their mixture were deposited onto gold-coated mica, where the deposited SAM resulted in the hydrophobic nature. Results showed that the mixed thiolic SAMs resulted in low adhesion and friction in nano-scale contact. It was argued that the water wetting characteristics played a central role on nano-scale adhesion and friction. Also the effect of mixing the thiolic SAMs were discussed on the basis of real area on contact and the stiffness of the SAM layers.

  • In this paper, we have fabricated on extended-gate field effect transistor (EGFET)-type protein sensor for the application to a CRP detection. We used the self-assembled monolayer (SAM) to adhere or entrap biomolecules, namely CRP antibodies. The experimental result shows that the proposed SAM is well immobilized on the gold gate surface. So the drain current was varied by antigen-antibody interactions on the gate surface because of the CRP charge. Experimental results related to the formation of SAM, antibody, antigen were obtained by measuring the electrical characteristics of the EGFET device.
