Purpose : This study was designed to investigate about symptoms named 'San(疝)', because almost no paper associated with San in Korea since the 1990s. Methods : Watch an overview of San with the Tonguibogam based. Results : In the Tonguibogam. according to the Zhang Ja-wha's classification. symptoms named 'San(疝)' are classified into seven kinds. As discussed in the Nephrology of Oriental Medicine, part of the Andrology, symptoms named 'San(疝)' are classified into three kinds. (1) San associated with reproductive organs. (2) San associated with pain (3) San associated with protrusion. The symptoms of San usually appears in the external genitalia and lower abdomen in both sexes can. The symptoms are called 'San(疝)' to the male and 'Ga' to the female. In the modern Obstetrics and Gynecology of Oriental Medicine. women's 'San' involves both 'San(疝)' and 'Ga'. San includes genital protrusion, but not includes vaginal hemia. It also includes genital edema, genital pruritus, genital herpes and bleeding after vaginal sex. San can be raised by many causes. The causes are damages by Coldness(傷寒), Damp-heat(濕熱), Serious distress(思慮過度) and Excessive sexual activity(房勞過多). The treatment for this symptoms is elimination of Dameum(痰飮). Jeokchwi(積聚) and Blood stasis(瘀血). Conclusion : The symptoms of San usually appears in the external genitalia and lower abdomen in both sexes can. The symptoms are called 'San(疝)' to the male and 'Ga' to the female.

Objectives : The purpose of this study was to review the clinical studies on antihypertensive effects of Oryeong-san. Methods : We searched papers using KTKP, Oasis, CNKI, PubMed, Embase, Science Direct, CINAHL, J STAGE and CiNii, and the key words "Oryeong-san (韓)", "Wuling-san (中)", "Gorei-san (日)", and "Hypertension" were used. Search range included randomized controlled trials (RCTs), clinical reports, reviews and animal experiments. Papers not matched with inclusion criteria were excluded. Results : A total 479 studies were found, with 457 excluded during title and screening. After scanning 22 papers, a final 3 RCTs and 6 case reports were selected and analyzed. In the 3 RCTs, the number of patients varied between 65 and 156. Patients with hypertension were randomized into groups for treatment group and control group. They were all treated with antihypertensive drugs (Vamlodipine Besylate, Benazepril, Perindopril); the treatment group was also given modified Oryeong-san. After treatment, results were that blood pressure was significantly decreased in the treatment group, compared to the control. The other 6 case reports reported that modified Oryeong-san alone or the combination of Oryeong-san plus antihypertensive drugs had beneficial effects on blood pressure. Conclusions : Oryeong-san appears to be effective in improving blood pressure and hypertension-related symptoms. The results of this study could be applied to clinical treatment of hypertension. Further large-scale clinical researches should be conducted.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report the effectiveness of Hyeongbangdojok-san on 4 seborrheic dermatitis patients who were diagnosed as Soyangin.Methods : 4 seborrheic dermatitis patients were treated by Hyeongbangdojok-san. The effect of treatment was measured by EASI score, VAS score, photographs.Results : EASI score and VAS score decreased as a result of Hyeongbangdojok-san treatment in 4 patients.Conclusions : These case-studies showed an efficient result of using Hyeongbangdojok-san in the seborrheic dermatitis of Soyangin. And an author consider that continuous clinical study will be needed in Korean medical dermatology.

This clinical case reports the effect of Chilgi-tang, a kind of traditional Korean herbal medicine, on $3^{rd}$ degree AV block patients also known as complete heart block. Complete heart block caused by degeneration of electrical conduction system of heart may result in weakness, dizziness, syncope, etc. Two clinical cases reported herein are diagnosed as $3^{rd}$ degree AV block caused by psychological stress with chief complaints of syncope and dyspnea respectively. The chief complains of cases cured remarkably after Chilgi-tang medication. In one case, $3^{rd}$ degree AV block was disappeared. In conclusion, we suggest that Chilgi-tang can be a potential treatment for complete heart block due to psychological stress.

Objectives: This study was designed to investigate intestinal immune system activation and antimetastatic effect of Ojeok-san on cancer cells by oral administration. Methods: Cell viability of Ojeok-san was tested with colon 26-M3.1 carcinoma cells and Peyer's patch cells in vitro. Antimetastatic experiments were conducted in vivo mouse model by using colon 26-M3.1 carcinoma cell. To observe immunomodulating effects of Ojeok-san on Peyer's patch cells, we measured interleukin (IL)-4, GM-CSF. In addition to observing effects of Ojeok-san on hematopoiesis, we measured proliferation of bone marrow cells mediated by Peyer's patch cells in vitro. IgA induction activated in serum and intestinal content was measured to observe the effect of orally administered Ojeok-san on mucosal immune system. After administering Ovalbumin (OVA) with Ojeok-san, Proliferation of Peyer's patch cell was measured to investigate gut immunostimulatory effect. Results: in vitro cytotoxicity analysis, the inhibitory concentration $(IC)_{50}$ of the colon 26-M3.1 carcinoma cell was $890{\mu}g/ml$. $IC_{50}$ of the Peyer's patch cells with LPS was $990{\mu}g/ml$. We found that orally administered Ojeok-san significantly inhibited tumor metastasis in vivo. In addition, the amounts of IL-4 and GM-CSF in the culture supernatant of Peyer's patch cells were significantly increased compared to the control group. The proliferation of bone marrow cell was significantly up-regulated with Ojeok-san. These results indicate that oral administration of Ojeok-san enhances the secretion of hematopoietic growth factors such as GM-CSF and IL-4 from Peyer's patch cells, and these cytokines also act on modulator of bone marrow cell proliferation. After orally administering Ovalbumin (OVA) with Ojeok-san, IgA induction and Proliferation of peyer's patch cell was up-regulated with Ojeok-san. These results means orally administered Ojeok-san activates intestinal immune system and has an inhibitory effect on tumor metastasis. Conclusions: Orally administered Ojeok-san appears to have considerable activity on the anti-metastasis by activation of immune system.

Objectives : This study was performed to report adverse events in Ojeok-san extract powders RCT. Methods : 180 patients with LBP were randomized into groups for a double blind, placebo-controlled clinical study. They received Ojeok-san simple Extract, Ojeok-san complex Extract or placebo in powders, orally dissolved 3times a day for 4weeks. During 4weeks, we researched the symptoms and duration of adverse events and Digest ability, Milk hypersensitivity, Starch hypersensitivity, Caramel hypersensitivity, West-med hypersensitivity, Herb-med hypersensitivity in patients who had adverse events. Results : 52patients(28.9%) had adverse events and of them 44patients(28.9%) had lost adverse events naturally. But 5patients(2.8%) were withdrawn from the research because of the adverse events. Most of the symptoms of adverse event was Gastrointestinal symptom(88.3%) and adverse events frequency was not different from Ojeok-san simple Extract, Ojeok-san complex Extract and placebo. Conclusions : Ojeok-san extract powders had adverse events no different from the placebo, which shows that it is a safe drug.

We performed this study to determine the radioprotective effect of Sam Ryung Baek Chul San (San Ling Bai Shu San), as a prescription of traditional Oriental medicine, and its major ingredients. Jejunal crypt survival, endogenous spleen colony formation, and apoptosis in jejunal crypt cells were investigated in irradiated mice with high and low dose of rays. Sam Ryung Baek Chul San administration before irradiation increased the formation of endogenous spleen colony(p<0.05) and reduced the frequency of radiation induced apoptosis(p<0.05). In the experiment on the effect of ingredients of Sam Ryung Baek Chul San, the result indicated that the extracts of Panax ginseng, Poria cocos and Coix lacryma jabi might have the major radioprotective effects. Although the mechanisms of these inhibitory effects remain to be elucidated, these results indicated that Sam Ryung Baek Chul San might be a useful radioprotector, especially since it is a relatively nontoxic natural product.

Objectives : This study was conducted to investigate the safety of Bangpungtongsung-san in rats. Methods : The safety of this prescription on acute toxicity was evaluated by single dose toxicity study. Rats were orally administrated in a single dose of 0 and 2,000 mg/kg(limited dose) Bangpungtongsung-san. There were 7 rats in each groups. All animals were sacrificed after 14 days of treatment. After single administration, mortality, clinical signs, and body weight changes were observed for 14 days. Three parameters(autopsy finding, clinical chemistry, and hematology) were tested on the last day. Results : In this study with rats, Bangpungtongsung-san treatment did not show any acute toxicity. No mortality was noted for 14 days of treatment. There were no adverse effects on clinical signs, body weight changes, and autopsy finding at all treatment groups. The clinical chemistry parameters attesting to liver and kidney functions as well as the hematological parameters were within the normal ranges. Conclusions : It is considered that $LD_{50}$ of Bangpungtongsung-san is over 2,000 mg/kg in oral administration by rats. This finding of the safety of Bangpungtongsung-san is expected to strengthen the position of this prescription as nontoxic medicine.
