  • This study was desiged to investigate the Obesity and Right-left(region) of Patients with Bell's palsy. We measured the sex, age, BMI and pulse diagnosis of 149 patients who were diagnosed as Bell's palsy. The results were as follows : In distribution of sex, the ratio of male was 52.35%(78 cases), female 47.65%(71 cases). The distribution of age revealed that 40s was the most in 50 cases(33.6%). The distribution of region in facial palsy was left 73 cases, right 76 cases(1:1.04). In distribution of region in facial palsy patients with obesity, the ratio of left was 32.86%(49 cases), right 34.23%(51 cases). But facial palsy patients with obesity was the most in 100 cases(67.11%), low weght was 3 cases(2.01%). In distribution of pulse diagnosis in facial palsy patients with obesity, the ratio of huh-mac(虛脈) was 63.64%(42 case), sil-mac(實脈) 36.36%(24 cases). The huh-mac(虛脈) was simlliar to gi-huh(氣虛). So we found that the facial palsy patients with obesity was more gi-huh(氣虛) than with low weght. In distribution of region in facial palsy patients with obesity-huh-mac(虛脈), the ratio of left was 41.38%(12 cases), right 58.62%(17 cases).

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was designed to estimate the effects of Oriental medical treatment on posttraumatic stress disorder patient due to a series of traffic accidents by using SCL-90-R. Methods : We studied 20 patients who were admitted to Daegu Haany University Oriental Hospital from October2006 to May 2007. Results : 4 symptoms of SCL-90-R, somatization, obsessive-compulsive, depression and anxiety were significantly different when comparing after-treatment with before-treatment. But, 5 symptoms of SCL-90-R, interpersonal sensitivity, hostility, phobic anxiety, paranoid ideation and psychoticism showed no difference between after-treatment with, before-treatment measurements. The total impact or SCL-90-R was significant comparing after-treatment with before-treatment measurements. Conclusions : We concluded that there was a significant effectof Oriental medical treatment on posttraumatic stress disorder patients caused by a seriesof traffic accident. However, the findings of this study need to be confirmed in more patients with further studies.

  • Recently, domestic silk fibroin (SF) hydrolysates have been studied intensively by several researchers. The functional properties of domestic SF hydrolysates depended on the hydrolysis method and the molecular weight of SF. However, the functional characteristics of wild SF hydrolysates have yet to reported. (omitted)

  • Cystitis is a inflammation that forms at the cystic mucosa those main symptom is urinary disturbance based on the bladder stimulated. It is liable to be chronicity and difficult to give medical treatment. Especially, Chronic Relapsing Cystitis(CRC) is the continuing and repeating cystitis without abnormality of urinalysis. This study was peformed on a 46-year-old female patient with CRC who was diagnosed as Norim(勞淋) due to Bisinyangheo(脾腎陽虛) and Hansan(寒疝) due to Hanchekanmaek(寒滯肝脈). The patient was treated with mainly Cheongsanboki-tang(淸疝補氣湯). Clinical symptoms and general conditions are improved after treatment and more extensive researches are needed.

  • Objectives : This report intended to estimate effects of Jung-an acupuncture on the acquired torticollis caused by muscle contraction. Methods : The patients were treated by Jung-an acupuncture, herb medication and Physical treatment daily. The improvement of the patients was judged by Toronto Western Spasmodic Torticollis Rating Scale(TWSTRS), Tsui's score and Visual Analogue Scale(VAS). Results : After 7 days of treatment, the 2 patients' neck pain and cervical movement were improved. Also, TWSTRS score, Tsui's score and VAS were all reduced. Conclusions : As the Jung-an acupuncture's theological base is organized with meridian theory and myofacial release therapy, We considered the Jung-an acupuncture is effective not only for the skin disease but also for the muscle problem such as torticollis.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to find out the effects of Chuna treatment on neck pain caused by traffic accidents. Methods : The 10 patients were divided into 2 groups, with Group A treated with Acupuncture and Chuna, while group B was treated with Acupuncture only. We measured the Visual Analog Scale(VAS), Pain Disability Index(PDI) and Pressure Pain Thresholds before and after treatment in each group. The statistical analysis was performed by using a Mann-Whitney U test and Wilcoxon signed rank test. Results : 1. Group A showed significant improvements in VAS, PDI and Pressure Pain Thresholds(p<0.05). 2. Group B was significantly improved in VAS(p<0.05). However, there was no statistical significance in PDI and Pressure Pain Thresholds(p>0.05). 3. There was no statistical significance between Group A and Group B before and after treatment. Conclusions : These results imply that Chuna treatment with Acupuncture would beeffective and useful on the neck pain caused by traffic accidents.

  • Accidents are the fourth-leading causal factor of death among the elderly, and fall is a major type of accident (53.17%). Many cases of falls in the elderly result in delayed discovery and loss of quality of life. As the number of the elderly grows, falls will be a more important health problem. Most previous research on falls investigated prevalence. mortality, and the related factors. There are many studies proving the effect of rhythmic movements. But few researches considered linking risk factors of fall with rhythmic movements. Purpose: We want to show the changes after performing rhythmic movement program, in risk factors of falls and mobility such as flexibility, balance, muscle power and persistency in the elderly, in order to provide basic information needed for the development of fall injury prevention program for the elderly. Method: The design of this study is quasi-experimental, the equivalent control group, pretest-posttest. The subjects consist of 124 people who lived in Do-Bong-Qu. Seoul, agreed to participate in this study, and were able to follow this rhythmic movement program. About 93 % of them are from 65 to 84 years (Mean${\pm}$sd: $73.7{\pm}5.7$): 64% are female. The rhythmic movement program was designed. and performed by two community health nurses working in the Do-Bong-Gu Public Health Center, regularly twice a week from May, 4 to December, 17. in 10 senior citizens' community centers. Risk factors of fall were measured with RAFS- II (Risk Assessment for Falls Scale II) by asking about each item: mobility was measured by observing their specific movements asked by investigators. Results: 1. After performing the program during 7 months, risk factors score of falls were decreased significantly (paired-t = 4.77. p<0.01). 2. After performing the program during 7 months, flexibility (paired-t = 2.26. p=0.03) and mobility were improved (paired-t = 4.98. p<0.01). but muscle power and persistency did not change (paired-t = 0.33. p=0.74). Overall, mobility affecting the occurrence of falls was improved significantly (paired-t = 5.15. p<0.01). Conclusions: A regular rhythmic movement program can be helpful in preventing falls in the elderly. Further. we can develop a fall injury prevention program using rhythmic movement.
