  • Continuing to the modeling of heating load, this paper, as the second part of consecutive works, presents LS-SVM (least square support vector machine) based model of winter time apartment hot water supply load in a district heating system, so as to be used in prediction of heating energy usage. Similar, but more severely, to heating load, hot water supply load varies in highly nonlinear manner. Such nonlinearity makes analytical model of it hardly exist in the literatures. LS-SVM is known as a good modeling tool for the system, especially for the nonlinear system depended by many independent factors. We collect 26,208 data of hot water supply load over a 13-week period in winter time, from 12 heat exchangers in seven different apartments. Then part of the collected data were used to construct LS-SVM based model and the rest of those were used to test the formed model accuracy. In modeling, we first constructed the model of district heating system's hot water supply load, using the unit heating area's hot water supply load of seven apartments. Such model will be used to estimate the total hot water supply load of which the district heating system needs to provide. Then the individual apartment hot water supply load model is also formed, which can be used to predict and to control the energy consumption of the individual apartment. The results obtained show that the total hot water supply load, which will be provided by the district heating system in winter time, can be predicted within 10% in MAPE (mean absolute percentage error). Also the individual apartment models can predict the individual apartment energy consumption for hot water supply load within 10% ~ 20% in MAPE.

  • We present the first results of the invariant point (IVP) coordinates of the KVN Ulsan and Tamna radio telescopes. To determine the IVP coordinates in the geocentric frame (ITRF2014), a coordinate transformation method from the local frame, in which it is possible to survey using the optical instrument, to the geocentric frame was adopted. The least-square circles are fitted in three dimensions using the Gauss-Newton method to determine the azimuth and elevation axes in the local frame. The IVP in the local frame is defined as the mean value of the intersection points of the azimuth axis and the orthogonal vector between the azimuth and elevation axes. The geocentric coordinates of the IVP are determined by obtaining the seven transformation parameters between the local frame and the east-north-up (ENU) geodetic frame. The axis-offset between the azimuth and elevation axes is also estimated. To validate the results, the variation of coordinates of the GNSS station installed at KVN Ulsan was compared to the movement of the IVP coordinates over 9 months, showing good agreement in both magnitude and direction. This result will provide an important basis for geodetic and astrometric applications.

  • This paper presents the architecture and design of a high speed asymmetric data transmission baseband MODEM ASIC chip for CATV networks. The implemented MODEM chip supports the physical layer of the DOCSIS(Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification) standard in MCNS(Multimedia Cable Network System) The chip consists of a QPSK/16-QAM transmitter and a 64/256-QAM receiver which contain a symbol timing recovery circuit, a carrier recovery circuit, a blind equalizer using MMA and LMS algorithms. The chip can support data rates of 64Mbps at 256 QAM and 48Mbps at 64-QAM and can provide symbol rates up to 8MBaud. This symbol rate is faster than existing QAM receivers. We have performed logic synthesis using the $0.35\mu\textrm{m}$ standard cell library. The total number of gates is about 290,000 and the implemented chip is being fabricated and will be delivered soon.

  • A microphone for fully implantable hearing device was generally implanted under the skin of the temporal bone. So, the implanted microphone's characteristics can be affected by the accompanying noise due to masticatory movement. In this paper, the implantable microphone with 2-channels structure was designed for reduction of the generated noise signal by masticatory movement. And an experimental model for generation of the noise by masticatory movement was developed with considering the characteristics of human temporal bone and skin. Using the model, the speech signal by a speaker and the artificial noise by a vibrator were supplied simultaneously into the experimental model, the electrical signals were measured at the proposed microphone. The collected signals were processed using a general adaptive filter with least mean square(LMS) algorithm. To confirm performance of the proposed methods, the correlation coefficient and the signal to noise ratio(SNR) before and after the signal processing were calculated. Finally, the results were compared each other.

  • We estimated the receiver and satellite differential code bias(DCB) based on the ionospheric total electron content(TEC) estimation method. The GPS network which has been operated by the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute(KASI) was designed to calculate TEC. The receiver and satellite DCB values were obtained from the weighted least square method with time interval for one hour. The results represented that the receiver DCB values are mostly varying within ${\pm}2m$ meter and are derived comparatively stable within three days. The estimated mean values of the satellite DCB show the maximum and minimum values of 4.09 nano-second(ns), -6.28ns respectively. We could detect great variations of TEC over 9 TECU difference at any time when the DCB sets were applied to TEC estimation.

  • The objective of this study is to estimate the flood runoff for three guaged stations within Namgang-Dam watershed which are operated by KWATER. For a flood runoff simulation, HEC-HMS was applied and the simulated runoff was compared with observed from 2004 to 2008. The watershed area of Sancheong, Shinan, and Changchon were 693.6 $km^2$, 413.4 $km^2$, and 346.48 $km^2$, respectively. The average runoff ratio of observed runoff for three watersheds were 0.725, 0.418, and 0.586, respectively. The dominant land cover of three watersheds are forest with the value of 71.6 %, 73.1 %, and 82.0 %. Three different cases according to the potential maximum retention of forest areas for calculating the curve number were applied to decrease the error between the simulated and observed. The simulated peak runoff of case 3 which applied the 90 % of potential maximum retention of curve number which is equivalent to AMCI for all the AMCI, AMCII, and AMCIII conditions showed least root mean square error (RMSE). The case 1, which was suggested by previous study, showed high discrepancy between the simulated and observed. Since the forest area consists of more than 70 % for all three watersheds, the application of curve number for forest is critical to improve the estimation errors. Further research is required to estimate the more accurate curve number for forest area.

  • The method of induction noise reduction can be classified by using passive control or active control method. However, the passive control method has a demerit to reduce the effect of noise reduction to low frequency (below) 500Hz) range and to be limited in a space of the engine room. Whereas, the active control method can overcome the demerit of passive control method. The algorithm of active control is mostly used in LMS (Least-Mean-Square) algorithm because it can obtain the complex transfer function easily in real-time. Especially, Filtered-X LMS (FXLMS) algorithm is applied to an ANC system. However, the convergence performance of LMS algorithm could not match if the FXLMS algorithm is applied to an active control of the induction noise under rapidly accelerated driving conditions. So, in order to solve the problem in this study, the Moving Bandpass Filter(MBPF) was proposed and implemented. The ANC using MBPF for the reduction of the induction noise shows that more noise reduction as 4dB than without MBPF.

  • The method of the reduction of the automotive induction noise can be classified by the method of passive control and the method of active control. However, the passive control method has a demerit to reduce the effect of noise reduction at low frequency (below 500Hz) range and to be limited by a space of the engine room. Whereas, the active control method can overcome the demerit of passive control method. The algorithm of active control is mostly used the LMS (Least-Mean-Square) algorithm because the LMS algorithm can easily obtain the complex transfer function in real-time. Especially, When the Filtered-X LMS (FXLMS) algorithm is applied to an ANC system. However, the convergence performance of LMS algorithm goes bad when the FXLMS algorithm is applied to an active control of the induction noise under rapidly accelerated driving conditions. Thus Normalized FXLMS algorithm was developed to improve the control performance under the rapid acceleration. The advantage of Normalized FXLMS algorithm is that the step size is no longer constant. Instead, it varies with time. But there is one additional practical difficulty that can arise when a nonstationary input is used. If the input is zero for consecutive samples, then the step size becomes unbounded. So, in order to solve this problem. the Correlation FXLMS algorithm was developed. The Correlation FXLMS algorithm is realized by using an estimate of the cross correlation between the adaptation error and the filtered input signal to control the step size. In this paper, the performance of the Correlation FXLMS Is presented in comparison with that of the other FXLMS algorithms based on computer simulations.

  • The study of the noise reduction of an automobile has been concentrated on the reduction of the automotive engine noise because the engine noise is the major cause of automotive noise. However, many studies of automotive engine noise led to the interest of the noise reduction of the exhaust and intake system. The method of the reduction of the induction noise can be classified by the method of passive control and the method of active control. However, the passive control method has a demerit to reduce the effect of noise reduction at low frequency (below 500Hz) range and to be limited by a space of the engine room. Especially, Filtered-X LMS (FXLMS) algorithm is applied to an ANC system. However, the convergence performance of LMS algorithm goes bad when the FXLMS algorithm is applied to an active control of the induction noise under rapidly accelerated driving conditions. So, in order to this problem, the modified FXLMS algorithm using Moving Bandpass Filter was proposed. In this study, MBPF was implemented and use ANC for automotive intake under revived rapidly accelerated driving conditions and it was verified its performance.

  • This paper proposed a search-based high resolution frequency estimation method in power systme. The proposed frequency estimation method adopts a slope-based adaptive search as a base of adaptive estimation structure. The architectural and operational parameters in this adaptive algorithm are changed using the information from context layer analysis of the signals including a localized full-search of spectral peak. The convergence rate of the proposed algorithm becomes much faster than those of other conventional slope-based adaptive algorithms by effectively reducing search range with the application of the localized full-search of spectrum peak. The improvements in accuracy and convergence rate of the proposed algorithm are confirmed through the performance comparison with other representative frequency estimation methods, such as, DFT(discrete Fourier transform) method, ECKF(extended complex Kalman filter), and MV(minimum variable) method.
