  • A new algorithm is proposed for training the multilayer perceptrion(MLP) in pattern classification problems to accelerate the learning speed. It is shown that the sigmoid activation function of the output node can have deterimental effect on the performance of learning. To overcome this detrimental effect and to use the information fully in supervised learning, an objective function for binary modes is proposed. This objective function is composed with two new output activation functions which are selectively used depending on desired values of training patterns. The effect of the objective function is analyzed and a training algorithm is proposed based on this. Its performance is tested in several examples. Simulation results show that the performance of the proposed method is better than that of the conventional error back propagation (EBP) method.

  • In this paper, a visual pattern recognition system is proposed, which can recognize both a pattern and its location. This system, referred to as the expanded neocognitron, has the following capabilities: (1) A higher performance in extraction of features, and (2) A new capability for recognizing the locations of patterns. This system adopts the learning and recognizing mechanism of the neocognitron. First, the ability to classify pattern is enhanced by improving the mechanisms of feature extraction and learning algorithm. Second, the function of detecting the location of each pattern is realized by developing an architecture which does not reduce structure, i.e., the unit density is constant all the way from the input stage to the output stage.

  • This paper presents an algorithm for recognizing surface mount device(SMD) IC pattern based on the error back propoagation(EBP) neural network and discrete cosine transform(DCT). In this approach, we chose such parameters as frequency, angle, translation and amplitude for the shape informantion of SMD IC, which are calculated from the coefficient matrix of DCT. These feature parameters are normalized and then used for the input vector of neural network which is capable of adapting the surroundings such as variation of illumination, arrangement of objects and translation. Learning of EBP neural network is carried out until maximum error of the output layer is less then 0.020 and consequently, after the learning of forty thousand times, the maximum error have got to this value. Experimental results show that the rate of recognition is 100% in case of the random pattern taken at a similar circumstance as well as normalized training pattern. It also show that proposed method is not only relatively relatively simple compare with the traditional space domain method in extracting the feature parameter but also able to re recognize the pattern's class, position, and existence.

  • Pattern classification system is often an important component of intelligent systems. In this paper, we present a pattern classification system consisted of the feature selection module, knowledge base construction module and decision module. We introduce a feature impact evaluation selection method based on fuzzy cluster analysis considering computational approach and generalization capability of given data characteristics. A fuzzy neural network, OFUN-NET based on unsupervised learning data mining technique produces knowledge base for representative clusters. 240 blemish pattern images are prepared and applied to the proposed system. Experimental results show the feasibility of the proposed classification system as an automating defect inspection tool.

  • In this paper we propose Using Higher Order Neuron on the Supervised Learning Machine of the Kohonen Feature Map. The architecture of proposed model adopts the higher order neuron in the input layer of Kohonen Feature Map as a Supervised Learning Machine. It is able to estimate boundary on input pattern space because or the higher order neuron. However, it suffers from a problem that the number of neuron weight increases because of the higher order neuron in the input layer. In this time, we solved this problem by placing the second order neuron among the higher order neuron. The feature of the higher order neuron can be mapped similar inputs on the Kohonen Feature Map. It also is the network with topological mapping. We have simulated the proposed model in respect of the recognition rate by XOR problem, discrimination of 20 alphabet patterns, Mirror Symmetry problem, and numerical letters Pattern Problem.

  • Pre-existing pattern recognition techniques, in the case of character recognition, have limited on the application field. But CAI character learning system and writer's recognition system are very important parts. The application field of pre-existing system can be expanded in the content that the learning of characters and the recognition of writers in the proposed paper. In order to achieve these goals, the development contents are the following: Firstly, pre-processing method by understanding the image structure is proposed, secondly, recognition of characters are accomplished b the histogram distribution characteristics. Finally, similarity measure functions are defined from standard character pattern for matching of the input character pattern. Also the effectiveness of this system is demonstrated by experimenting the standard primitive image.

  • In this paper, this app is an online learning tool web application that helps learners learn efficiently. It discusses how learners can improve their learning efficiency in these three aspects: retrieval practice, systematization, metacognition. Through this web service, learners can proceed with learning with a flash card-based retrieval practice. In this case, a method of managing a flash card in a form similar to a directory-file system using a composite pattern is described. Learners can systematically organize their knowledge by converting flash cards into a mind map. The color of the mind map varies according to the learner's learning progress, and learners can easily recognize what they know and what they do not know through color. In this case, it is proposed to build a deep learning model to improve the accuracy of an algorithm for determining and predicting learning progress.

  • We carried out shape recognition. We found out cucumber's feature shape by means of neural network and back propagation algorithm. We developed an algorithm which finds object position and shape in real image and we gained following conclusion as a result. It was processed for feature shape extraction of cucumber to detect automatic. The output pattern rates of the miss-detected objects was 0.1~4.2% in the output pattern which was recognized as cucumber. We were gained output pattern according to image resolution $445{\times}363$, $501{\times}391$, $450{\times}271$, $297{\times}421$. It was appeared that no change was detected. When learning pattern was increased to 25, miss-detection ratio was 16.02%, and when learning pattern had 2 pattern, it didn't detect 8 cucumber in 40 images.

  • One of the popular methods used for pattern classification is the MBR (Memory-Based Reasoning) algorithm. Since it simply computes distances between a test pattern and training patterns or hyperplanes stored in memory, and then assigns the class of the nearest training pattern, it is notorious for memory usage and can't learn additional information from new data. In order to overcome this problem, we propose an incremental learning algorithm (iMPA). iMPA divides the entire pattern space into fixed number partitions, and generates representatives from each partition. Also, due to the fact that it can not learn additional information from new data, we present iMPA which can learn additional information from new data and not require access to the original data, used to train. Proposed methods have been successfully shown to exhibit comparable performance to k-NN with a lot less number of patterns and better result than EACH system which implements the NGE theory using benchmark data sets from UCI Machine Learning Repository.

  • The back propagation algorithm took a long time to learn the input patterns and was difficult to train the additional or repeated learning patterns. So Aleksander proposed the binary neural network which could overcome the disadvantages of BP Network. But it had the limitation of repeated learning and was impossible to extract a generalized pattern. In this paper, we proposed a dynamic 3 dimensional Neuro System which was consisted of a learning network which was based on weightless neural network and a feedback module which could accumulate the characteristic. The proposed system was enable to train additional and repeated patterns. Also it could be produced a generalized pattern by putting a proper threshold into each learning-net's discriminator which was resulted from learning procedures. And then we reused the generalized pattern to elevate the recognition rate. In the last processing step to decide right category, we used maximum response detector. We experimented using the MNIST database of NIST and got 99.3% of right recognition rate for training data.
