  • Understanding 3D structure of scenes is of a great interest in various vision-related tasks. In this paper, we present a unified approach for estimating depth from a single monocular image. The key idea of our approach is to take advantages both of parametric learning and non-parametric sampling method. Using a parametric convolutional network, our approach learns the relation of various monocular cues, which make a coarse global prediction. We also leverage the local prediction to refine the global prediction. It is practically estimated in a non-parametric framework. The integration of local and global predictions is accomplished by concatenating the feature maps of the global prediction with those from local ones. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms state-of-the-art methods both qualitatively and quantitatively.

  • Nowadays learning has developed to a new way of anywhere and anytime by using mobile devices called m-learning which can provide flexibility, independency and creativity in academic environment. Most studies about m-learning are for higher education and the most users of m-learning are higher education students. Although developed countries are using m-learning in educational sectors, most of the Middle East countries are far from m-learning, and facing number of challenges. In Iran m-learning is still in early stage of implementation in higher education and in terms of technical and infrastructural aspects there is a vast gap in compare with developed countries. Although technical and infrastructural difficulties are one of the significant aspects in implementation and integration of m-learning technologies in education, the technology will not be successful if could not adopt with users. Due to the importance of user adoption with m-learning, there are limited studies about m-learning adoption in higher education of Iran. This paper attempts to review on technical and infrastructural aspects that facilitate m-learning which have effect on adoption of Iran higher education system. The review of the trend in the literature provides a reference for higher education institutes for decision making in developing m-learning for their students.

  • Science teachers' beliefs about science and school science and their perceptions of the science laboratory learning environment were investigated with an assumption that science laboratory teaching would be affected by science teachers' beliefs. Likert-scale questionnaires of BASSSQ and SLEI were used in this study. The major findings were as follows: 1. Science teachers showed inconsistent beliefs about science and school science. Their responses reflected a patch-like view of postmodern epistemology and objectivism They also showed somewhat different views about science and school science. It was found that science teachers had strong objectivist views about science in some parts. but they had moderate constructivist views about school science in other parts; 2. The mean scores of student cohesiveness, integration. and rule clarity on the actual version in SLEl were relatively high, but those of open-endedness and physical environment were very low; 3. There was no association between teachers' beliefs about science and their perceptions of the science laboratory learning environment. But some associations were found between teachers' beliefs about school science and their perception on student cohesiveness, integration, and rule clarity of the actual science laboratory learning environment. Teachers' beliefs about school science had some statistically significant correlations with their perceptions on all scales of the preferred version of SLEI. We could not show a causal relationship between teachers' beliefs and their science laboratory learning environment through these results. But it can be suggested that teachers' beliefs about school science do have a role in constructing a desirable science laboratory learning environment, as we found that there were statistically significant correlations between them.

  • One of the latest teaching strategies is smart classroom teaching. Teaching is carried out with the assistance of smart teaching technologies to improve teacher-student contact, increase students' learning autonomy, and give fresh ideas for the fulfillment of students' deep learning. Computer-based technology has improved students' language learning and significantly motivating them to continue learning while also stimulating their creativity and enthusiasm. However, the difficulties and barriers that many EFL instructors are faced on seeking to integrate information and communication technology (ICT) into their instruction have raised discussions and concerns regarding ICT's real worth in the language classroom. This is a case study that includes observations in the classroom, field notes, interviews, and written materials. In EFL classrooms, both computer-based and non-computer-based activities were recorded and analyzed. The main instrument in this study was a survey questionnaire comprising 43 items, which was used to examine the efficiency of ICT integration in teaching and learning in public schools in Kuala Lumpur. A total of 101 questionnaires were delivered, while each responder being requested to read the statements provided. The total number of respondents for this study was 101 teachers from Kuala Lumpur's public secondary schools. The questionnaire was randomly distributed to respondents with a teaching background. This study indicated the accuracy of utilizing Teaching-Learning-Based Optimization (TLBO) in analyzing the survey results and potential for students to learn English as a foreign language using computers. Also, the usage of foreign language may be improved if real computer-based activities are introduced into the lesson.

  • Many studies have affirmed a negative influence of fragmentation on learning and knowledge sharing in construction projects. However, the literature overlooked enablers of learning within this context. The purpose of this paper is to explore the factors that facilitate project learning and ways to negate any unbecoming effects of fragmentation. Qualitative study used to explore the enablers through interviews administered to 11 top management individuals working in different construction projects in Malaysia. The findings revealed the following factors: participation, relationships, togetherness, and roles of project leader and coordinator. The role of boundary objects was also highlighted including information technology (IT), contract and procedures, drawings, specifications, and reports. The outcome of this paper initiates the development of a model for better knowledge creation and sharing in construction projects. The significance of this model stems from its ability to connection both the characteristics of construction project and project learning theories using the enablers. It is envisaged that future work will be to confirm the model in a quantitative study.
