The Roles of Online Instructional Facilitators and Student Performance of Online Class Activity

  • The study investigates the effects of online instructional facilitator's qualities on student performance of online class activities. The study explores the roles of instructional facilitators who may influence student performance of online class activities and their academic achievement. The study employs a set of aggregated data from 1,362 subjects and 10 facilitators who participated in multiple online classes. The results of independent samples t-test reveal that the student performance in online classes has no association with facilitators' educational background or academic degree, as well as demographic characteristics, student evaluation records and instructional achievement. The results of multiple regression analysis show that the facilitator engagement has a positive relation to the enhancement of student interaction, reading discussion messages, and the quality of discussion messages in online discussions. The results of correlation analysis show that the facilitator engagement has a positive impact on both increasing the number of reading discussion messages and enhancing the quality of discussion messages. The facilitator engagement increases the quantity of reading discussion postings and enhances the quality of discussion messages, which would be a substantial contribution to student performance by facilitators. The findings suggest that student performance and academic achievement in online classes are not independent of facilitator engagement.

간호학생들의 문제중심학습 적응과정에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Adapting Process of Nursing Students to Problem Based Learning)

  • Purpose: The purpose of the study was to identify the adaptation process to problem based learning(PBL) among nursing students who have experienced PBL classes for two years. Method: Data was collected from 11 nursing students with in-depth interviews and direct observation of their PBL experiences by a researcher who has been a facilitator for PBL class for 3years. Immediately after the interviews all of them were transcribed. It was analyzed by the Ground theory of Corbin and Strauss. Results: A derived core category was 'Acquiring PBL'. 4 stages of the acquiring process were derived and written in time sequence: chaos, confusion, beginning insight, and achievement stage. Conclusion: The results will not only expand understanding of the students for the facilitator and school which has adopted PBL but also provide information to develop an orientation program for PBL. Further research on the facilitator's role experiences is recommended.

A Modularized Approach to the Development of the Creativity Learning Program

  • Art education in design has repeatedly stressed the importance of developing creativity. In the digital period, however, which shows rapid change in both forms and contents, it needs to be equipped with more flexible and systematic ways of approaching to the creativity development, especially involved with cultural diversity of the digital world. This paper primarily proposes a maximally efficient, productive creativity learning program in which the integration of expressive media and communication generates a comprehensive network of communicative information in the development of digital technologies, which, consequently, brings forth valuable cultural contents of art. The amalgamation of Won (2006)'s Prism Effect, with distinctive three devices, and the facilitator factors, with two different facilitators such as self-controlled and controlled plays, would function as a catalyst for cultural diversity in the digital forms and contents of art. And this will, consequently, result in producing a number of practices that can be classified and assorted for a later performance. This paper thus suggests a roadmap of how to develop the creativity learning program in which two categories of facilitators based on three thinking devices function to classify four activities. In addition, selected activities are shaped as a creativity learning program by generating learning practices with the formalizing instructional strategy that fit into a specialized educational environment and learners. The samples of loaming practice design show guidelines for practice and the results of learning activity. Therefore, the eventual goal of this paper would be to establish a creativity learning program that constitutes a highly systematized and modularized database to maximize the efficiency and productivity of the creativity development.

One Instructor에 의해 진행된 Modified Problem-Based Learning 교육기법 평가 (Evaluation of Modified Problem-Based Learning Facilitated by One Instructor)

  • Background: Problem-based learning (PBL) has introduced as an important part of pharmacy education in Korea as it is effective method to help students gain and apply knowledge with development of problem-solving, critical-thinking, and decision-making skills. In order to provide the effective PBL, a number of trained facilitators and suitable PBL rooms are required. However, these become a barrier in Korea as most pharmacy schools have one or two faculty members who majored in clinical pharmacy. Objective: This study was performed to implement and evaluate a modified PBL in gastrointestinal (GI) pharmacotherapy class facilitated by one instructor. Methods: A general information of traditional PBL for 6 hours through 3 days is introduced before initiating GI pharmacotherapy class. After 3 hour-GI pharmacotherapy classes for 6 weeks, modified PBL was implemented with one instructor to facilitate PBL for four small groups with 19 pharmacy students simultaneously. Modified PBL was incorporated with weekly mini-case discussion and presentation. Results: Students completed 15-question survey to evaluate modified PBL course, student performance, group performance, and facilitator performance. Eighty-four percent of students answered modified PBL was helpful to understand what they have learned. Mean score in group performance was higher than that of individual performance during modified PBL course. Overall, students reported modified PBL was useful in knowledge building. Conclusion: Modified PBL model without individual group facilitators in one classroom helped students to achieve self-directed, independent learning skills in an interactive and engaging environment.

  • This paper is about how to establish the strategic teaming organization in digital age. Through the case study of action teaming, this research can give some implications to small-sized organizations who want to establish teaming culture and positive activities in their own companies. The case site was S-steel, which belongs to the steel industry. To improve and drive teaming activities, I made use of skills: action learning, fishbone analysis, creative thinking, brainstorming, creative discussion skill, and organization diagnostic method.

간호 대학생의 시뮬레이션 학습이 간호역량에 미치는 효과 (Effects of Simulation Learning on Nursing Competency in Nursing College Students)

  • 본 연구는 시뮬레이션 학습과 간호역량의 관계를 확인하기 위하여 국내 4개 대학에서 시뮬레이션 수업을 수강한 경험이 있는 간호학과 대학생 130명을 대상으로 온라인을 통해 자료를 수집했다. 대상자의 일반적 특성 및 시뮬레이션 수업에 대한 유용성과 중요성 인식, 만족도와 자신감, 수업방식, 설계, 그리고 간호역량을 자가보고식으로 조사했다. 시뮬레이션에 대한 유용성과 중요성 인식은 간호역량의 사정, 임상적 판단과 양의 관련성이 있었고 학습자의 만족도와 자신감은 전반적인 간호역량 및 환자안전과 양의 관련성이 있었다. 교수자의 수업방식과 설계 역시 전반적인 간호역량과 양의 관련성이 있었으며, 나이와 설계는 간호역량을 21.5% 설명하는 예측요인이었다. 간호역량을 개발하기 위한 시뮬레이션 적용에는 참여자의 만족도와 자신감을 고려할 필요가 있으며, 교수자의 수업방식과 설계를 체계적으로 다양화 시킬 필요가 있다.

  • 본 논문은 학습관리시스템(LMS), 학습콘텐츠관리시스템(LCMS), 학습지원도구를 포함한 기업 e-Learning 시스템과 운영을 연계한 통합적 형태의 가이드라인을 제시하고 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 국내 e-Learning 시스템 현황 및 특성을 실태조사를 통해 파악하고, 관련된 국내 e-Learning 시스템의 다양한 질 관리 방법과 운영자, 교.강사, 학습자에게 적합한 실행 전략을 제시하고자 한다. 이를 통해 e-Learning을 새롭게 도입하거나 업그레이드 하고자 하는 교육훈련기관에게 e-Learning 시스템을 구축하고 운영체계를 수립하는데 도움을 줄 수 있을 것이다.

Emerging Role of Primary Leader in Group Interaction with Mechanics Problems During Upper-level Mechanics Course

  • According to social constructivism, group interaction is very important when students construct their knowledge. Many researchers have developed methods of teaching on the basis of group interaction because they recognized the importance of group interaction. There are a large variety of issues related to group interaction including group size, the gender and ability composition of groups, seating arrangements, textbook use, gestures, and role assignments. However, research on group interaction in science learning is still insufficient. In this study, we focused upon the emerging role of the primary leader. We investigated the primary leader's diverse role when students are solving mechanics problems. The participants were one group composed of three students in an upper-level mechanics class. To analyze these students' group interactions, their verbal interactions during meetings were videotaped and audiotaped during one-semester period. We also conducted interviews with the three students and analyzed their reports. As a result, we could find a special student who had the role of primary leader. We could also find the leader's three different leadership roles in different problem situations by inductively; explainer, facilitator and evaluator. Group interaction had different aspect according to the different role of leaders. The group interactions were the most active when the leader played the role of facilitator.

웹기반 원격교육시스템을 활용한 경영학 교육 (Management Education by Utilizing the Cyber Education Learning System)

  • This paper discusses management education by utilizing the cyber education learning system in a web-based. New learning system tools offer great promise for a new contents of management learning. The cyber education learning system a shift from face-to-face lecturing to interactive learning. The situation changes profoundly when information technology becomes develope and education paradigm is shift. By exploiting the digital media. educations, and students, managers can shift to a new, more effect cyber education learning system. The following shift from classic educations to cyber educations learning system: from instruction to construction, from teacher-centered to learner-centered, from school to lifelong, from one-size-fits-all to customized, from teacher as transmitter to teacher as facilitator. Cyber education learning system has an important role to play in management education. Web-based technology is regarded as a general solution to cyber education learning. This study discussed many factors of implementation in cyber education systems and provide utilizing the learning system at main, detail functions. Lastly, management implications of these cyber education utilize are discussed in more detail.

Collaborative Learning Agent for Promoting Group Interaction

  • This project aims to design and develop a prototype for an agent that support online collaborative learning. Online collaborative learning, which has emerged as a new form of education in the knowledge-based society, is regarded as an effective method for improving practical and highly advanced problem-solving abilities. Collaborative learning involves complicated processes, such as organizing teams, setting common goals, performing tasks, and evaluating the outcome of team activities. Thus, a teacher may have difficulty promoting and evaluating the entire process of collaborative learning, and a system may need to be developed to support it. Therefore, to promote interaction among learners in the process of collaborative learning, this study designed an extensible collaborative learning agent (ECOLA) for an online learning environment.
