Gas flow characteristics within the cylinder is important factors in impoving lean combustion stability. This paper shows the effects of various flow fields generated by a swirl control valve(SCV) on combustion process in a 4-valve spark ignition engine. An impulse swirl/tumble meter was used to elucidation the steady-state flow characteristics, and a rotating grating type LDV was developed to measure the mean velocity and tunbulence intensity in relation to the crank angle. These methodologies were applied to clarify the correlation between gas flow characteristics and combustion stability at a lean air fuel ratio. An analysis of the correlation revealed the gas flow conditions required to optimize a lean-burn system.
Objective: The purpose of this study is to provide a better understanding of short turn mechanism by describing short turns after kinematic analysis and provide skiers and winter sports instructors with data through which they are able to analyze right postures for turns in skiing in a systematic, rational and scientific manner. Method: For this, a mean difference of kinematic variables (ski-hip angle, ski-shoulder twist angle, pole checking angle, the center of gravity (CG) displacement, trunk forward lean angle) was verified against a total of 12 skiers (skilled and unskilled, 6 persons each), regarding motions from the up-start to down-end points for short turns. Results: There was no difference in a ski-hip twist angle. The ski-shoulder twist angle was large at the up-start point while a pole-checking angle was high at the down-end point in skilled skiers. Concerning the horizontal displacement of CG, skilled skiers were positioned on the right side at the upstart point. No significant difference was observed in the trunk forward lean angle. Conclusion: According to the ski-shoulder twist angle and CG horizontal displacement results, the upper body should be kept leant toward the pole. In addition, big turns should be made via edging and angulation. During pole checking, the hand holding the pole should be thrown and released toward a vector direction of the forearm.
In this research, we use IDI type constant volume combustion chamber which may make up stratified combustion to construct the design back data of lean-burn engine. Some experiments are conducted by the passagehole angle in the adapter of main chamber and sub-chamber. The effects on the combustion characteristics according to the ignition timing are investigated. The used fuel is methanol prospective for alternative fuel. Fuel is injected under 10.78MPa using solenoid and accumulator. As the results of the experiment, combustion characteristics reveals that ignition timing, passagehole angle and shape greatly effects on. Lean inflammability limit is extended to 0.45 in equivalence ratio.
In the present study, the IDI-type constant volume chamber, which utilizes the indirect injection stratified charge method, is used to solve several problems including misfires and cycle-variations caused by unstable initial ignitions. A subchamber has been used to make an ignitable mixture under the low mean equivalence ratio. After burned in the subchamber, the flame jet getting through the passage hode enters the main chamber and burns the lean charge. There are many factors which affect the combustion characteristics of the indirect injection stratified engine. The passage hole angle is the most important since it determines the direction of flame flows into the main chamber. In the present study, we measured the combustion pressure, and the wall temperature, and computed the heat flux through the cylinder wall in order to understand the combustion characteristics depending on passage hole angle and the equivalence ratio.
This paper presents the response surface optimization method using three-dimensional Navier-Stokes Analysis to optimize the shape of a axial flow fan. Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations with k-$\epsilon$ turbulence model are discretized with finite volume approximations. Regression analysis is used for generating response surface, and it is validated by ANOVA. Five geometric variables, i.e., distribution of sweep angle at mean and tip, lean angle at mean and tip, and spanwise location of mean were employed to optimize the efficiency. The computational results are compared with experiment data. As a main result of the optimization, the efficiency was successfully improved.
This study was conducted to investigate the principles and motions for increasing the jumping height of Fosbury Flop. The subjects were three male jumpers who were former Korean national team players. Their jumping motions were analyzed using the DLT method of three-dimensional cinematography. The conclusions were as follows. 1. The horizontal velocity of approach run and decreasing of this velocity during the take off phase were increased as the jumping height was increased. Therefore, in order to increase the jumping height, the horizontal velocity of approachrun should be increased and decreased properly during the take-off phase. The average height of the analyzed Dials was 2.15m. The average horizontal velocity of approachrun was 7.49m/s and decreased to 4.16m/s at the instance of take-off. 2. The vertical velocity of the center of gravity was increased as the ascending height of the center of gravity during the take-off phase was increased. Therefore, the center of gravity at the instant of touch down should be lowered. This could be possible by increasing the length of the last stride and the backward lean angle of the body. The average length of the last stride was 111.1% of the standing height, the average height of the center of gravity was 46.6% of the standing height and the average backward lean angle of the body was 40.3 degrees.
An experimental study on geometric optimization was conducted to develop a hybrid/dual swirl jet combustor for a micro-gas turbine. A hybrid concept indicating a combination of swirling jet partially premixed and premixed flames were adopted to achieve high flame stability as well as clean combustion. Location of pilot nozzle, angle and direction of swirl vane were varied as main parameters with a constant fuel flow rate for each nozzle. The results showed that the variation in location of pilot nozzle resulted in significant change in swirl intensity due to the change in flow area near burner exit, and thus, optimized nozzle location was determined on the basis of CO and NOx emissions under conditions of co-swirl flow and swirl $angle=30^{\circ}$. The increase in swirl angle (from $30^{\circ}$ to $45^{\circ}$) enhanced the emission performances, in particular, with a significant reduction of CO emission near lean-flammability limit. It was observed that the CO emission near lean-flammability limit was further reduced through the counter-swirl flow. However, there was not significant change in the NOx emission in the operating conditions (i.e. equivalence ratio of 0.6~0.7) between the co- and the counter-swirl flow.
The effects of interaction between partially premixed and premixed swirl flames on CO and NOx emissions were experimentally investigated using a hybrid/dual swirl jet combustor for a micro-gas turbine. Under the condition of constant angle ($45^{\circ}$) for outer swirl vane, the angle and direction of inner swirl vane installed for a partially premixed flame were varied as main parameters with a constant fuel flow rate for each nozzle. It was found that for all conditions, CO and NOx emissions were measured below 4 ppm and 15 ppm at 15% $O_2$, respectively, in a wide range of equivalence ratio (0.6~0.9). For co-swirl flows, CO emission increased dramatically as the angle of inner swirl vane increased from $15^{\circ}$ to $45^{\circ}$ near lean-flammability limit (i.e. equivalence ratio of 0.5). On the other hand, the case of swirl $angle=45^{\circ}$ provided the lowest NOx emission at higher equivalence ratios than 0.6. For counter-swirl flows, the case of swirl $angle=45^{\circ}$ extended the lean-flammability limit but higher NOx emissions were found compared to those of co-swirl flows. These results could be inferred by interaction between (inner) partially premixed and (outer) premixed swirl flames. However, these estimations were not clear yet because there was insufficient data on turbulent flow structure and fuel-air mixing in the present experimental approach.
This study was investigated the kinematic factors of the last approach strides and. take off motion for the skill improving of BKH elite male athlete. 'The subjects chosen for the study were BKH and. KASZCZYK Emillian male athletes who were participated in 2003 Dae-Gu Universiad Games. Three high speed video cameras set in 60frames/s setting were used. for recording from the last approach strides to the apex position. After digitizing motion, the Direct Linear Transformation(DLT) technique was employed to obtain 3-D position coordinates, The kinematic factors of the distance, velocity and angle variable were calculated for Kwon3D 3.1. The following conclusions were drawn; 1. It showed longer stride length, as well as faster horizontal and lateral velocity than the success trial during the approach phase. For consistent of the approach rhythm, it appeared that the subject should a short length for obtain the breaking force by the lower COG during the approach phase. 2. The body lean angle showed a small angle by a high COG during the take-off phase. For obtain the vertical displacement of the COG and a enough space form the bar after take-off, it appeared that the subject should increase the body lean angle. 3. For obtain the vertical force during the takeoff phase, it appeared that the subject should keep straight as possible the knee joint. Therefor, the subject can be obtain a enough breaking force at the approach landing.
To know the proper impact posture and changes for the various clubs, changes of impact variables according to the change of golf club length was investigated. Swing motions of three male low handicappers including a professional were taken using two high-speed video cameras. Four clubs iron 7, iron 5, iron 3 and driver (wood 1) were selected for this experiment. Three dimensional motion analysis techniques were used to get the kinematical variables. Mathcad and Kwon3D motion analysis program were used to analyze the position, distance and angle data in three dimensions. Major findings of this study were as follows. 1. Lateral position of the head remained more right side of the target up to 3.5cm compared to the setup as the length of the club increased. 2. Left shoulder raised up to 5cm and right shoulder lowered up to 2.5cm compared to setup. The shoulder line opened slightly (maximum 11 degrees) to the target line. 3. Forward lean angle of the trunk decreased up to 4 degrees (more erected) compared to setup. 4. Side lean angle of the trunk increased compared to setup and increased up to 16 degrees as the club length increased. 5. The pelvis moved to the target line direction horizontally and opened up to 31 degrees. Right hip moves laterally to the grip position at the setup. 6. Flexion of the left leg maintained almost constantly but the right leg flexed up to 11 degrees compared to setup. 7. Left arm is straightened but the right arm flexed about 20degrees compared to straight. 8. Center of the shoulders were in front of the knees and toes of the feet. 9. Hands moved to the left (8.7cm), forward (5.7cm) and upward (11.6cm) compared to the setup. This is because of the rotation of pelvis and shoulders. 10. Shaft angle to the ground was smaller than the lie angle of the clubs but it increased close to the lie of the clubs at impact.
