A computational analysis using Reynolds stress model in FLUENT is conducted to give a clear understanding of the effect of blade loading on the structure of tip leakage flow in a forward-swept axial-flow fan at design condition ($\phi$=0.25) and off-design condition ($\phi$=0.21 and 0.30). The roll-up of tip leakage flow starts near the minimum static wall pressure position, and the tip leakage vortex developes along the centerline of the pressure trough within the blade passages. Near tip region, a reverse flow induced by tip leakage vortex has a blockage effect on the through-flow. As a result, high momentum region is observed below the tip leakage vortex. As the blade loading increases, the reverse flow region is more inclined toward circumferential direction and the onset position of the rolling-up of tip leakage flow moves upstream. Because the casing boundary layer becomes thicker, and the mixing between the through-flow and the leakage jet with the different flow direction is enforced, the streamwise vorticity decays more fast with blade loading increasing. The computational results show that a distinct tip leakage vortex is observed downstream of the blade trailing edge at $\phi$=0.30, but it is not observed at $\phi$=0.21 and 0.25.

An experimental analysis using three-dimensional Laser Doppler Velocimetry(LDV) measurement and computational analysis using the Reynolds stress model in FLUENT are conducted to give a clear understanding of the effect of blade loading on the structure of tip leakage flow in a forward-swept axial-flow fan operating at the maximum efficiency condition ($\Phi$=0.25) and two off-design conditions ($\Phi$=0.21 and 0.30). As the blade loading increases, the onset position of the rolling-up of tip leakage flow moves upstream and the trajectory of tip leakage vortex center is more inclined toward the circumferential direction. Because the casing boundary layer becomes thicker and the mixing between the through-flow and the leakage jet with the different flow direction is enforced, the streamwise vorticity decays more fast with the blade loading increasing. A distinct tip leakage vortex is observed downstream of the blade trailing edge at $\Phi$=0.30, but it is not observed at $\Phi$=0.21 and 0.25.

We propose an optical configuration of a vertical alignment (VA) liquid crystal (LC) cell to eliminate the light leakage in the diagonal direction. VA LC cell has an excellent contrast ratio in the normal direction due to the no phase-retardation. However, change of the phase-retardation occurs in all directions, which causes the light leakage and deteriorates the characteristics of the dark state. We designed the LC cell structure composed of multiple combinations with two A-plates and two C-plates in order to achieve wide viewing property on the Poincare sphere. From calculations, we show that the proposed structure can improve the viewing angle characteristics by compensating for the light leakage in all directions.
The thyristor among the power-semi-conductor elements, which has large current capacity and high voltage, is used widely nowadays. When the thyristor was being used to the long time, this element may be able to arise the system trip caused by changing the characteristic and dropping the performance. Therefore, it would be necessary to analyze the characteristic of element to maintain the stable operation of the system. In oder to analyze this characteristic, it would be need to test forward direction, reverse direction and leakage current by supplying the half-sine wave voltage. Among these testing, transient current condition is generated from the testing of leakage current. This transient current may be the main factor of the error in the precise measurement of leakage current. Therefore, this paper analyzes the relationship between supply voltage and transient current in measuring leakage current of the SCR, and then suggests the condition and cause of transient current as appearing the leakage current in the testing the leakage current.

Leakage characteristics of two labyrinth seals with different configurations (straight vs stepped) were investigated. Leakage flows were predicted by computational fluid dynamics (CFD) for the two configurations and compared with test data. A semi-analytical leakage prediction tool was also tried to predict the leakage. It was confirmed that the CFD gives quite good agreements with test data. The analytical tool also yielded similar leakage behaviors with test results, but the overall agreement with test data was not as good as that of the CFD. The effect of flow direction in the stepped seal on leakage flow was examined. The dependence of leakage performance, in terms of flow function, on the seal clearance size was investigated. Flow function decreased with decreasing clearance in the straight seal, while the trend was reversed in the stepped seal.
This paper presents leakage magnetic field and leakage inductance calculations in current transformer by means of 3-D Integral methods. From the distribution diagram of leakage magnetic flux to be analyzed using program called TRACAL3, it confirms a parallel to the winding axis direction of the leakage flux lines in the air gap between the windings. The leakage inductances L$\sub$r1/ and L$\sub$R2/ of the primary and secondary windings were calculated, their values are 4.23 mH and 0.49 mH, respectively. They are also similar to the measured values of the leakage inductances for the experimental verification, 4.06 mH and 0.47 mH.
In the paper, static characteristics of spiral grooved seal is theoretically obtained by Using Navier-Stokes equation. In the analysis, inertia term of fluid is considered and the flow and pressure in the steady state are obtained for the groove direction and vertical to the groove direction. As the journal rotating frequency increases, the leakage flow decreases. Therefore, zero net leakage flow is possible at the region of some rotating frequency.
