  • An algorithm was developed to detect and block serial arc currents using HPF. The AC series arc problem is that the load current is greater than the fault current and no leakage current occurs. As a solution, an arc detection method utilizing differences in high- frequency amplitudes was developed. HPT was applied to the load current and FFT was applied to eliminate low frequencies. An algorithm has been developed to detect arc waveforms when they exceed a certain value compared to the average of normal waveforms. Using one cycle of data, arc detection is faster and arc accidents are prevented.

  • This paper describes a single pulse-width modulation control strategy using the Single Pulse-Width Modulation (SPWM) method with a soft-switching technique for a wide range of output voltages from a bidirectional Dual-Active Bridge (DAB) converter. This method selects two typical inductor current waveforms for soft-switching, and proposes a rule that makes it possible to achieve soft-switching without any compensation algorithm from the waveforms. In addition, both the step-up and step-down conditions are analyzed. This paper verifies that the leakage inductance is independent from the rule, which makes it easier to apply in DAB converters. An integrated algorithm, which includes step-up and step-down techniques, is proposed. The results of experiments conducted on a 50-kW prototype are presented. The system efficiency is experimentally verified to be from 85.6% to 97.5% over the entire range.

  • This paper is aimed to develop an electrical fire detection system (EFDS) which can analyze the possibility of electrical fire for overcurrent, leakage current and arc signals of panel board in traditional market shop. The EFDS adopted fuzzy logic and precursory data for overcurrent, leakage current and arc signals to evaluate the possibility of electrical fire. The signals are obtained directly from panel board in traditional market shops and fuzzy membership function is obtained from experiment, simulation, expert's advice. The overcurrent data is acquired by thermal data of normal and abnormal states (partial disconnection) on the insulated electrical wire, in accordance with the increase of the current signal, The leakage current data is obtained under various environments. The arc signal is acquisited by waveforms of instantaneous value in time domain and frequency band in frequency domain. The Fuzzy algorithm for DB of EFDS consists of fuzzification, inference engine by Mamdani's method and defuzzification by center of gravity method. In order to verify the performance and reliability of EFDS, it was applied to Jeon-Ju traditional market shops (90 shops) in Korea. Results show that EFDS in this paper is useful in alarming the fire case, which will prevent severe damage to human beings and properties, and reduce the electrical fires in a vulnerable area of electrical disaster.

  • In order to drive motor control system precisely, the motor is to be controlled by mmfs and current with sinusoidal waveforms. In this paper the Delta Modulation (DM) Technique is used for generating PWM pulse with sinusoidal waveform. However the motor currents yet contain odd harmonics due to leakage inductances, speed and exitation. To reduce harmonics, the parameter adaptive control method is introduced. That is, Req.C parameter of Delta Modulator is controlled adaptively by parameter adaptor. The adaptive signal is achieved by the difference between motor current and reference waveform, and this signal is converted to the voltage commend signal by adaptive mechanism. The test reslts show that this system is operated smoothly over a wide range of motor speed and motor current is controlled to be sinusoidal waveform adaptively.

  • This paper investigates effects of segmented poles on exciting forces such as cogging torque, BEMF, phase current, torque ripple and local forces. Cogging torque, BEMF and local force are determined by FEM analysis and phase current is calculated using voltage equations after determining BEMF and phase inductance. Effective dead zones at pole separations result in wider than the physical dead zones due to leakage field during magnetization. Due to the existence of dead zones, there exist additional exciting harmonics of the cogging torque which play adverse effect on vibration and noise performance. The magnitude of BEMF is decreased and the waveforms are also distorted depending on dead zone positions. Segmented poles inevitably cause uneven magnetic field distribution at pole separations which introduces additional harmonics of exciting forces which are detrimental to structural to structural resonances. They also decrease motor efficiency by reducing effective phase BEMF.

  • Recently, the high frequency link boost DC/DC converter has been used widely for PCS (Power Conditioning System) because of the requirements of small size and low cost. However, the high frequency link boost DC/DC converters applied the conventional voltage-fed converter and current-fed converter have some problems like high conduction losses and high surge voltage due to high circulating current and leakage inductance, respectively. To improve these problems, a novel secondary LLC (called SLLC) series resonant converter is proposed in this paper and its theoretical analysis, its operating waveforms, simulation and experimental results for a boost DC/DC converter using SLLC series resonant topology verifies the proposed topology. 800W experimental prototype is tested.
