Considering the valuation and initial public offering (IPO) of Coupang, Korea's leading e-commerce company, this study contributes to the literature by examining various valuation methods applicable to corporate valuation in the e-commerce industry and provides their implications. Research design, data and methodology: This case study investigates research, analyst reports, news articles, and magazines to review the valuation methods for companies in the e-commerce industry and analyzes the case of the Coupang IPO. Results: A valuation method that considers growth potential, which is important for companies in the e-commerce industry, is used for IPOs. This led to Coupang's successful IPO on the New York Stock Exchange despite its accumulated losses. However, the continued price decline since listing suggests that Coupang's valuation should have considered more factors. Conclusions: This study provides guidelines for the valuation of companies in the e-commerce industry, which eventually improves the overall industry. Moreover, this study provides directions for improving the valuation methods for e-commerce firms.

  • LX Hausys, a leading manufacturer of building materials in South Korea is engaging in the interior business where it is critical to balance between the needs of end-users (B2C) and the needs of corporate consumers (B2B) in an effective manner. Therefore, it is utmost important for the company to ensure that customer communication takes place in two directions based on correct market segmentation strategies, which in turn require a deep understanding of current as well as potential consumers. To accomplish this, LX Hausys conducted both quantitative and qualitative studies to establish a market segmentation strategy which is genuinely different from "general" consumer goods market segmentation strategies. As a result, especially since 2018, its brand (LX Z:IN) began to move up to 1st or 2nd place in a variety of brand rankings. This paper aims to look closely into various characteristic aspects of LXH's market segmentation strategy, and also shows how it is implemented in the real world.

  • Sustainability is bound to be an eternal topic for managers who run companies. This sustainability is required not only by managers but also by various stakeholders. As a result, many companies are implementing sustainable management and are actively utilizing ESG, which has become a hot topic since 2020. In this study, we examined sustainable management and ESG, focusing on LX Hausys, which was the first in the interior industry to write a sustainable management report and received an ESG evaluation grade A for five consecutive years. As LX Hausys promoted sustainable management, it naturally focused on ESG management. As a result of meeting with LX Hausys HR executives and ESG managers for this study, ESG is not accepted as a new one. Rather, he emphasized that there is no need to approach this approach to ESG with grandeur and difficulty. This approach is consistent with the argument that ESG is a true approach to sustainable growth, not a management strategy based on the times. Like LX Hausys, ESG management can be consistently and continuously performed when implementing ESG strategies based on the resources and capabilities of companies, which can be seen as leading to corporate sustainability. This ESG management will be the right way to create a permanent company.

  • In today's knowledge-based economy, measurement and disclosure (M&D) of intellectual capital (IC) are crucial for enhancing business performance and competitiveness. In the global world, M&D of IC are useful means to keep investors well-informed and reduce information asymmetry. At present, very few leading corporations in India have disclosed IC information on a 'voluntary' basis. Traditional accounting practices, therefore, will need to assimilate innovations that seek to meaningfully represent the 'true-value' of the intangible assets of the company. This is an exploratory study of IC M&D by 8 Indian companies over 5-year period, using 'content' analysis and market-value-added (MVA) as research methodologies. The annual reports of companies were collected from their respective websites. As part of present study, various statistical techniques have been used to analyze the data. The findings show that the sample companies, on an average, reported a positive value of IC, along with wide-disparity, low-level of ICD. Unfortunately, the omission of IC information may adversely influence the quality of decisions made by shareholders, or lead to material misstatements. Finally, we recommend to "the international accounting bodies, to take the lead by establishing a harmonized ICD standard, and provide guidance to the big listed-companies for proper measurement and disclosure of IC, both for internal and external users."

  • Purpose: This study examined the effect of situational, transformational, and transactional leadership on the firm survival of restaurants distribution in Thailand during the COVID-19 pandemic. Following the existing literature, situational, transformational, and transactional leadership are the origin of firm performance leading to firm survival. Therefore, situational, transformational, and transactional leadership were the critical factors in creating the firm implementation of restaurants distribution in Thailand. Research design, data, and methodology: The sample consisted of 400 restaurants in Thailand, and the statistical approach for data analysis was an ordinary least-squares regression. The study analyzed the response bias, validity, and reliability. Results: Significantly, these findings firmly revealed that situational, transformational, and transactional leadership primarily positively affected firm performance. However, the uncertain environmental conditions had a moderate impact, resulting in a negative correlation between the three leadership styles and the company's performance. Conclusions: Despite the COVID-19 situation in Thailand, the research findings show no significant positive correlation between the performance of restaurants distribution and their survival as a business due to the COVID-19 pandemic is rare for firms to endure and survive, including restaurants distribution in Thailand. In conclusion, we have presented practical and theoretical ideas and recommendations for future research.

  • Background: Recent research on occupational injuries in companies has faced difficulties in obtaining representative data, leading to studies relying on surveys or case studies. Moreover, it is difficult to find studies on how a company's industry characteristics affect occupational injuries. This study aims to address these limitations. Methods: We collected 11 years of disclosure data from 1,247 listed companies in the Korean stock market and combined it with their occupational injury histories collected by the Republic of Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency (KOSHA) to build a dataset. We attempted to analyze a linear panel model by dividing the dataset into manufacturing, construction, and other industries. Results: The higher proportion of full-time employees and better job skills correlate with lower occupational injuries in other industries. The wage increase reduces occupational injuries in manufacturing and other industries, but the substitution effect produces the opposite outcome in construction. Also, foreign ownership and credit ratings increase effectively reduce occupational injuries mainly in the manufacturing industry. Conclusion: Our results suggest that in explaining the relationship between corporate characteristics and occupational injuries, it is necessary to consider the nature of the industry more closely, and in particular, employment and labor policies for preventing occupational injuries need to be selectively applied according to industry. In addition, to improve the limitations and increase the usability of the research results, further detailed studies are needed in the future.
