DC-DC Dual Active Bridge 컨버터의 소신호 모델링 및 제어기 설계에 관한 연구 (Study on Small-signal Modeling and Controller Design of DC-DC Dual Active Bridge Converters)

  • Small-signal modeling and controller design methodology are proposed to improve the dynamics and stability of a DC-DC dual active bridge (DAB) converter. The state-space average method has a limitation when applied to the DAB converter because its state variables are nonlinear and have zero average values in a switching period. Therefore, the small-signal model and the frequency response of the DAB converter are derived and analyzed using a generalized average method instead of conventional modeling methods. The design methodology of a lead-lag controller instead of the conventional proportional-integral controller is also proposed using the derived small-signal model. The accuracy and performance of the proposed small-signal model and controller are verified by simulation and experimental results with a 500 W prototype DAB converter.

  • 직접구동형 서보밸브의 제어시스템은 비선형적이며 밸브스풀에 미치는 유체력의 영향은 매우 크고 부하압력의 크기에 좌우된다. 제어시스템의 설계요구조건을 만족시키기 위해, 제약직접탐색방법인 유전자 알고리즘과 콤플렉스법을 적절히 활용하여 진상-지상제어기 및 미분피드백제어기의 최적 상수값을 탐색하였다. 최적 제어기 상수값을 대입하여 제어시스템을 시뮬레이션한 결과 설계요구조건을 만족하였다.

  • In switching from the track-seeking or track-jumping control mode to track-following control mode in hard disk drives or optical disk drives, initial values of the feedback controller are tuned to improve the transient response. In general, all the initial values of the controller have been compensated for this purpose. In this paper, by partially compensating initial values of digital controllers, we achieve a good performance of the transient response. In the proposed method for IVC (Intial Value Compensation), LMIs (Linear Matrix Inequalities) are used, which includes conditions for improving the performance of the transient response such as reducing a tracking error and control efforts. We obtain optimal initial values of the controller by solving an optimization problem with constraints represented by only one LMI. Although initial values of the controller are partially compensated, we can show that not only a sufficient performance of the transient response is obtained but also control efforts are diminished. The feasibility of the method is verified by simulation studies.

  • A design of PI controller to be used to control the first-order lag plus dead time process, such as a flow process, by the coefficient diagram method (CDM) is investigated. The factor of the dead time of process is first approximated to be the first-order by the Pade approximation. The response of the flow control system designed by CDM satisfy both transient and steady state specifications. However, the transient response generally still has long rise time.   • Recently, the disturbance caused by an optical disk vibration and the external vibration/shock are more serious problem in an optical disk drives (ODD) as an ODD become small size and rotation speed increases. The conventional controller cannot cope with the mentioned problems properly when the disturbance and vibration are larger than some range. Therefore, we propose a new control scheme using a disturbance observer (DOB) and it can control the aforementioned problems. The designed the controller is applied to a commercial ODD in focusing direction, then its validity is proved by experimental method. By rising the disturbance observer theory, the focusing performance is conspicuously improved in the presence of sinusoidal vibrations or a shock disturbance. This algorithm also applies to a tracking structure also, because focusing structure is very similar to it.

Damping of Inter-Area Low Frequency Oscillation Using an Adaptive Wide-Area Damping Controller

  • This paper presents an adaptive wide-area damping controller (WADC) based on generalized predictive control (GPC) and model identification for damping the inter-area low frequency oscillations in large-scale inter-connected power system. A recursive least-squares algorithm (RLSA) with a varying forgetting factor is applied to identify online the reduced-order linearlized model which contains dominant inter-area low frequency oscillations. Based on this linearlized model, the generalized predictive control scheme considering control output constraints is employed to obtain the optimal control signal in each sampling interval. Case studies are undertaken on a two-area four-machine power system and the New England 10-machine 39-bus power system, respectively. Simulation results show that the proposed adaptive WADC not only can damp the inter-area oscillations effectively under a wide range of operation conditions and different disturbances, but also has better robustness against to the time delay existing in the remote signals. The comparison studies with the conventional lead-lag WADC are also provided.

A New Control Strategy for a Three-Phase PWM Current-Source Rectifier in the Stationary Frame

  • This paper presents a novel power control strategy for PWM current-source rectifiers (CSRs) in the stationary frame based on the instantaneous power theory. In the proposed control strategy, a virtual resistance based on the capacitor voltage feedback is used to realize the active damping. In addition, the proportional resonant (PR) controller under the two-phase stationary coordinate is designed to track the ac reference current and to avoid the strong coupling brought about by the coordinate transformation. The limitations on improving steady-state performance of the PR controller is investigated and mitigated using a cascaded lead-lag compensator. In the z-domain, a straightforward procedure is developed to analyze and design the control-loop with the help of MATLAB/SISO software tools. In addition, robustness against parameter variations is analyzed. Finally, simulation and experimental results verify the proposed control scheme and design method.

  • The practical design methodology of a three-phase dual active bridge (3ph-DAB) converter applied to low voltage direct current (LVDC) applications is proposed by using a mathematical model based on the steady-state operation. An analysis of the small-signal model (SSM) is important for the design of a proper controller to improve the stability and dynamics of the converter. The proposed lead-lag controller for the 3ph-DAB converter is designed with a simplified SSM analysis including an equivalent series resistor (ESR) for the output capacitor. The proposed controller can compensate the effects of the ESR zero of the output capacitor in the control-to-output voltage transfer function that can cause high-frequency noises. In addition, the performance of the power converter can be improved by using a controller designed by a SSM analysis without additional cost. The accuracy of the simplified SSM including the ESR zero of the output capacitor is verified by simulation software (PSIM). The design methodology of the 3ph-DAB converter and the performance of the proposed controller are verified by experimental results obtained with a 5-kW prototype 3ph-DAB converter.

  • Information storage devices using disks have a disk vibration at the frequency which is equivalent to the disk rotational speed. They also have a track vibration due to the disk eccentricity at the same frequency. In near field recording systems, the former affects the air-gap servo and the latter affects the tracking servo. In this paper, we introduce a novel control algorithm based on the internal model principle to both servos. A controller block designed by the principle is connected to the base lead-lag type compensator in parallel in order to cancel the repeatable run-out due to the disk vibration or eccentricity. Simulation and practical application of the algorithm on a near field recording system show good servo performance.

  • We have developed a design/analysis tool for use with Mat lab whick is named as "Parametric Robust Control and Identification(PROCI)". The tool is composed of three parts: Part i) consists of the identification of the continuous time transfer function by using either time domain input-output data or frequency response data, which might be experimentally obtained. Part ii) is the CDM synthesis of classical controller such as PID, Lead/Lag compensators. In part iii), the analysis of robustness of overall system can be dealt with. This tool allows us to analyze completely most of robustness issues with respect to the interval uncertaintyncertainty
