  • As the recent development of mobile technology, users want to multi-service in anytime, anywhere, any terminal. To meet the needs of users, it causes a lot of expense that redesign of the entire network or expand the network of services areas. Therefore, IEEE, IETF is offering Handover technology between heterogeneous network. In this paper, the IEEE 802.21 MIH information server is based on the network. It proposes an improved handover that L3 layer to optimize the handover process use of FMIPv6 and executes simulation.

  • For the next generation mobile communication system, diverse wireless network techniques such as beyond 3G LTE, WiMAX/WiBro, and next generation WLAN etc. are proceeding to the form integrated into the All-IP core network. According to this development, Beyond 3G integrated into heterogeneous wireless access technologies must support the vertical handover and network to be used of several radio networks. However, unified management of each network is demanded since it is individually serviced. Therefore, in order to solve this problem this study is introducing the theory of Common Radio Resource Management (CRRM) based on Generic Link Layer (GLL). This study designs the structure and functions to support the vertical handover and propose the vertical handover algorithm of which policy-based and MCDM are composed between LTE and WLAN systems using GLL and CRRM. Finally, simulation results are presented to show the improved performance over the data throughput, handover success rate and the system service cost.

  • For the successful deployment of Mobile Internet, fast handover technologies are essential. For the past few years several handover mechanisms are suggested, and Fast Handover for Proxy Mobile IPv6 (PFMIPv6) is one of the promising schemes for this purpose. In this paper, we propose a novel L2/L3 cross layer handover scheme based on ARIMA prediction model to apply PFMIPv6 to Mobile Internet environment effectively. Performance gains are evaluated in terms of probabilities of predictive-mode operation, handover latencies, packet loss probabilities, and signaling costs. Three mobilities models are used for our simulation: Manhattan Model, Open Area Model, and Freeway Model. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme can increase probabilities of predictive-mode operation and reduce handover latency, packet loss probabilities, and signaling cost.

  • The existing Proxy Mobile IPv6 suffers from a long handover latency which in turn causes significant packet loss that is unacceptable for seamless realtime services such as multimedia streaming. This paper proposes an OpenFlow-enabled proxy mobile IPv6 (OF-PMIPv6) in which the control of access gateways is centralized at an OpenFlow controller of a foreign network. The proposed OF-PMIPv6 separates the control path from the data path by performing the mobility control at the controller, whereas the data path remains direct between a mobile access gateway and a local mobility anchor in an IP tunnel form. A group of simple OpenFlow-enabled access gateways performs link-layer control and monitoring activities to support a comprehensive mobility of mobile nodes, and communicates with the controller through the standard OpenFlow protocol. The controller performs network-layer mobility control on behalf of mobile access gateways and communicates with the local mobility anchor in the Proxy Mobile IPv6 domain. Benefiting from the centralized view and information, the controller caches the authentication and configuration information and reuses it to significantly reduce the handover latency. An analytical analysis of the proposed OF-PMIPv6 reactive and proactive handover schemes shows 43% and 121% reduction in the handover latency, respectively, for highly utilized network. The results gathered from the OF-PMIPv6 testbed suggest similar performance improvements.

  • Recently, there are many efforts to support seamless mobility in 802.11 WLANs using IP Layer mobility protocols. The IP layer mobility protocols are the most efficient mechanism to guarantee the service session continuity when IP subnet is changed during handover. Even if the IP layer mobility protocols are quite efficient, the feature of the protocols that had been designed to consider only L3 layer makes it difficult to improve the performance of hand over more and more. Nowadays, to overcome this limitation of IP mobility protocols, many researchers have worked on the mobility protocols integration of different layers (e.g., L2 layer). In this paper, we propose the enhanced Proxy MIPv4 to minimize the latency of handover using MIH protocol in 802.11 WLANs. The proposed mechanism minimizes the latency of authentication by exchanging security keys between Access Routers during handover. Moreover, it also minimizes packet losses by Inter-AP Tunneling and data forwarding.

  • As a mobility support for IP have studied, Internet Engineering Task Force(IETF) standardized the Mobile IPv6(MIPv6) protocol. When a mobile node moves between subnets, MIPv6 maintains connectivity to network and supports seamless communication, and these processes are called a Handover. Whenever the mobile node moves between subnets, the Handover is performed. The mobile node can not communicate during the Handover. This period is Galled Handover latency. To reduce this latency, mipshop working group standardizes Fast Handovers for Mobile IPv6(FMIPv6), but latency which the mobile node registers its new care-of address to a home agent and a correspondent node is still long. To solve this problem, we propose a scheme that the mobile node registers the new care-of address to the home agent and initiates Return Routability procedure in advance during layer 2 handover, based on FMIPv6 and IEEE 802.11. We analyze MIPv6, FMIPv6 and the proposed scheme in term of packet transmission cost during the Handover. Compared to MIPv6 the proposed scheme gains 79% improvement, while it gains 31% improvement compared to FMIPv6.

  • The handover between different radio access networks, especially where their coverage overlaps, suffers various complications since the different access networks provide different service characteristics. One way to reduce service interruptions and QoS (i.e., bandwidth, throughput, delay) degradations during the inter-technology handover is to reserve the required resource in advance. The resource reservation algorithm should minimize the handover latency and maximize the resource utilization based on the accurate estimation on mobile's location, velocity, movement pattern and service requirements. In this paper, we propose a resource reservation algorithm based on the mobile terminal velocity and the cell selection probability, which maximizes resource utilization ana reduces network overhead. We compare the proposed algorithm with PMS(Predictive Mobility Support) and VCDS(Velocity and Call Duration Support scheme) based on 3-layer network model under various scenarios.

  • With the help of various Layer 2 triggers, Fast Handover for Mobile IPv6 (FMIPv6) considerably reduces the latency and the signaling messages incurred by the handover. Obviously, if not secured, the protocol is exposed to various security threats and attacks. In order to protect FMIPv6, several security protocols have been proposed. To our best knowledge, there is lack of analysis and comparison study on them though the security in FMIPv6 is recognized to be important. Motivated by this, we provide an overview of the security protocols for FMIPv6, followed by the comparison analysis on them. Also, the security threats and requirements are outlined before the protocols are explored. The comparison analysis result shows that the protocol presented by You, Sakurai and Hori is more secure than others while not resulting in high computation overhead. Finally, we introduce Proxy MIPv6 and its fast handover enhancements, then emphasizing the need for a proper security mechanism for them as a future work.
