  • LCS(Launch Control System) in Space Center performs the ground and flight tests of launch vehicle. Those tests require data monitoring and control functions to the external systems such as launch vehicle, launch pad, and propellant supply system, etc. The LCS is composed of real time control system, simulation system, data server, external network, etc. The purpose of the simulation system is to simulate launch vehicle, and it is used for evaluation test of the LCS. This paper described the simulation system overview, the concept design, and the real time data processing evaluation tests of the simulator, gateway, data distribution server which are constituents of the simulation system.

  • Weather launch criteria of launch at Oenarodo Space Center is important for the successful launch operation. In particular, most of the launch failure occurs during the period of separation from the launch pad, thus meteorological condition is critical at this phase. In earlier days, the weather launch criteria adopted wind and forecast data for the launch operation. Nevertheless, the control of position and stability require other meteorological components such as vertical wind shear, lightning, temperature and visibility, because the launch vehicle is moving mostly vertically. We analyze these meteorological components by using the observed data at KMA at neighboring Oenarodo to determine the weather launch criteria. These criteria need further refinements through long-term observation.

  • Before the launch, launch vehicle is set up a few days ago at launch pad to check process and to supply fuels, etc. During the prelaunch process, the payload is exposed to the thermal environments. The purpose of a prelaunch thermal analysis is to predict maximum/minimum liftoff temperature of payload fairing and to evaluate air conditioning performance. The prelaunch thermal analysis of Delta II PLF is performed using Sinda/fluint, general thermal/fluid analyzer. The results are analyzed and compared with Delta II report.

  • Generation mechanisms of pressure waves from the H-IIA launch vehicle are analyzed numerically. The Mach wave radiated downstream from wavy shearlayer of supersonic exhaust plume is revealed to be the dominant noise source. Reflecting from the constructions of the launch-pad, the Mach wave turns to propagate to the vehicles. It was also found that the fluctuating supersonic plume entering into the flame duct is the dominant noise source that appears in the flame duct. Then, the pressure wave propagates through the flame duct and is ejected outside to the vehicle.

  • As the remote sensing satellite technology grows, the acquisition of accurate attitude and position information of the satellite has become more and more important. Due to the data processing limitation of the on-board orbit propagator and attitude determination algorithm, it is required to develop much more accurate orbit and attitude determination, which are so called POD (precision orbit determination) and PAD (precision attitude determination) techniques. The sensor and attitude dynamics simulation takes a great part in developing a PAD algorithm for two reasons: 1. when a PAD algorithm is developed before the launch, realistic sensor data are not available, and 2. reference attitude data are necessary for the performance verification of a PAD algorithm. A realistic attitude dynamics and sensor (IRU and star tracker) outputs simulation considering their physical characteristics are presented in this paper, which is planned to be used for a PAD algorithm development, test and performance verification.

  • During the flight test of KSLV-I, various sensors are installed in the launch pad and the flame deflector to measure the flame characteristics and their influences on the launch complex when a launch vehicle lifts off. Parameter Measurement System is responsible for acquiring the above flight test data. The measurement methodology such as the configuration of measurement system, sensor locations and data acquisition procedures are presented. And this paper compares and explains the characteristics of data sets measured during two flight tests.

  • KARI has been conducting R&D for independent development of KSLV-II since 2010. Vehicle holding device is a device for vertically standing SLV on the launch pad of launch complex and fixing the lower part of vehicle in order to firmly fix vehicle so that SLV does not fall from an external load such as a wind load. When thrust generated after the 1st stage engine ignition of SLV must exceed the takeoff weight of vehicle, and holding device should be quickly released so that it does not interfere with takeoff of vehicle like other ground equipment at the beginning of the launch. Pyro-valve is one of the key components constituting VHD, and it should have high reliability and quick response characteristics with similar functional parts applied to launch vehicle separation device and satellite separation device. Through this paper, I intend to broaden the overall understanding of the development process of pyro-valve for VHD and KSLV-II.

  • This paper is about the results in Qualification Management activity performed between the Autonomous Test(AT) season(August. 2008) of Launch Complex and the 2nd flight test season(June. 10, 2010) of KSLV-I. All cryogenic fluids(LOX, $LN_2$) and compressed gases(Air, $GN_2$, GHe) were qualified by qualification management activity during AT(Autonmous Test), QT(Qualification Test) season for LP(Launch Pad) and LVAB(Launch Vehicle Assembly Building) and FT(Flight Test) season of KLSV-I. As the results, total 428 times of check analysis and 111 times of full analysis were performed.
