Enterotoxemia caused by Clostridium perfringens(Cl. perfringens)has occurred sporadically with devastating effect in Korean cattle. The disease is confirmed by detecting bacterial toxin the interstinal contents. however diagnosis has been challenging since the toxin is short lived and it must be demonstrated within one hour following death. The purpose of this paper is to provide additional clinicall and pathological information derived from observation of cattle administered with Cl. perfringens type A and/or its toxins isolated from natural case. Clinically cattle died suddenly in lateral recumbency with dyspnea tachycardia and muscle tremor without increased rectal temperature. hematology showed leukopenia with absolute decrease of all leukocytes. Blood glucose AST and ALT were increased. Grossly lungs were hyperemic haemorrhagic and edematous. Small intestine especially ileum was hyperemic and hemorrhagic with diffuse areas of necrosis. This study demonstrated that death without increased rectal temperature combined with leukopenia increased serum glucose pulmonary haemorrhage and edema plus necrotizing ileitis are important features associated with enterotoxemia due to Cl. perfringens type. This study was carried out to verify the distribution patterns of Salix gracilistyla and Phragmites japonica communities known as obligatory riparian species according to physical factors such as micro-landforms, substrates, etc., at Soo-ip stream corridor. Firstly four vegetation types - Salix gracilistyla dominant type, Phragmites japonica dominant type, mixed type of two species, and mixed type of two species to other species, were classified by cluster analysis based on UPGMA-Euclidean distance. Also these vegetation types showed many different distribution patterns in response to the longitudinal and lateral view along the stream corridor and substrate composition. Salix gracilistyla was major component of dominant vegetation types developed at attack point of bending reach and on substrates composed of rock fragments, but contrastly Phragmites japonica was most important component of dominant vegetation types at point bar of bending reach and floodplain, and on substrates composed of soil materials. Secondly the species and environment biplot form CCA strongly supported the vegetation types divided by classification. Namely Salix gracilistyla was closely correlated with rock fragments and steep slope, which is resistant to physical action even though located near running water. But Phragmites japonica showed a high correlation with soil particles sedimented at floodplain by divergent flow.

Retaining walls are used to prevent excessive movement of retained soils. Typical retaining walls include gravity, reinforced concrete, reinforced earth and tie-back. However, from a practical viewpoint there are still drawbacks among these often constructed retaining walls. New types of retaining walls constructed with precast concrete blocks are proposed. This type of retaining wall is incorporates each blocks interconnected with adjacent block by connecting unit to build up a flexible retaining-wall system. This paper focus to behavior characteristics includes deformation and distribution of lateral earth pressure by loading tests and FEM analysis. For model tests, a 1/10 scale reduce models are manufactured include unevenness part, drainage hole and connecting unit and steel wire used to connect each blocks with adjacent block. To simulate the real retaining walls closely, uneven parts are interconnected each other and the construction type of blocks and wall front inclination are varied to investigate the relative displacement of individual block and the location of maximum deformation of wall as increasing surcharging. Additionally, PENTAGON3D, which solve the geotechnical and other problem, used for verifying and comparing with model tests.

Lateral confinement pressure generate improvements in strength and ductility of confined concrete. Carbon fiber sheets have a lot of merits, such as light weight, high strength and ease for construction, when it is applied to the defected structural member for the strengthening of shear and flexure. The purpose of this experimental study is to evaluate the strength characteristics of the reinforced concrete column confined with carbon fiber sheets. The main variables in this test are concrete strength ($290kgf/cm^2$ called N type, $505kgf/cm^2$ called H type) and pre-loading. In the test, a total of twelve specimens, which were all $10{\times}10cm$ in size, 117 cm in length, have a 2.85 reinforcement ratio, have been used. The results indicate that the strength was enhanced 26%~30% in N type, 11%~16% in H type specimens which was confined with carbon fiber sheets.

The demand for improved rail transportation safety is growing due to the increased speeds of current railways. In addition, freight trains with heavier axle loads are required to run on conventional railways. In order to meet these requirements, increased rail weights and the application of a CWR system have been introduced on conventional railways. The H type sleeper, which has higher lateral resistance than the existing mono sleepers, has been recently developed to increase track stiffness and reduce track irregularities. In this paper, the effects of a H-type sleeper on track behavior were investigated by 3-Dimensional F.E. analysis.

Damping information is required to analyse heat exchangers for flow-induced vibration. The most important energy dissipation mechanisms in heat exchanger tubes are related to the dynamic interaction between tube and support. In liquids, squeeze-film damping is dominat. Simple experiments were carried out of a two-span tube with one intermediate support to investigate the effects of tube-support parameters, such as: tube-support thickness, diametral clearance, tube eccentricity, tube span length, location of tube-support, and nature of dynamic interaction between tube and tube-support. The results show that squeeze-film damping is much larger for lateral-type motion than for rocking-type motion at the support. Eccentricity was found to be very important. Diametral clearance, support thickness and frequency are also very relevant. The effects of these parameters on squeeze-film damping are formulated and proposed in a semi-empirical expression.

The gingival zenith is the most apical point of the gingival outline. This study aimed to quantify the mesio-distal and apico-coronal displacements of gingival zenith in maxillary anterior dentition. 50 healthy patients, who ranged in age from 25 to 36 years were recruited for the study. Alginate impressions of the study group were made and poured with the type III stone. The gingival zenith positions of maxillary anterior teeth were measured in a mesial-lateral direction from the vertical bisected midline. The apico-coronal displacements of the gingival zenith of lateral incisors were measured from a line joining the gingival zeniths of the central incisor and canine. The gingival zeniths were distally displaced in 90%, 53% and 23% of the maxillary cetral incisors, lateral incisors and canines respectively. The mean distal displacements of the gingival zeniths to the vertical bisected midline of central incisors, lateral incisors and canines were 0.90 mm, 0.29 mm and 0.06 mm respectively. The gingival zeniths of lateral incisors were positioned $0.73{\pm}0.43$ mm coronally to the line joining the gingival zenith of central incisors and canines. Consideration of these findings may improve restorative procedures in the anterior maxillary dentition.
Purpose: To know about the clinical characteristics such as causes, types, associated injuries and treatment of the lateral meniscus injuries. Materials and Methods: Retrospective analysis was performed for 129 lateral meniscus tears which were divided into 2 groups, Non-discoid and Discoid. Analysis included age and sex distribution, causes of injury, types and location of tear, associated injuries, and methods of treatment. Results: Both Non-discoid and Discoid were prevalent in man and Discoid group was equally distributed through 2nd to 5th decades and Non-discoid group was more prevalent in 4th to 5th decades. Sports injury was the most common cause in both groups and the Nondiscoid group tended to sustain minor injuries compared to Discoid group. Complex tear and body was most common type and site of tear in both groups. Associated injuries were common in Non-discoid group and isolated injuries were common in Discoid group. Partial meniscectomy was commonly done in Non-discoid group and subtotal meniscectomy in Discoid group based on the types of tear. Conclusion: Non-discoid and Discoid lateral meniscus injuries are similar in types and sites of injuries but different in causes of injury, associated injuries and methods of treatment. Therefore, proper diagnosis and treatment would be necessary according to the characteristics.

Seismic behavior of 3-dimensional setback structures showing abrupt reductions of the floor size within the structure height and the effect of in-plane deformations of floor slabs on the seismic behavior of those structures are investigated. To find out general seismic behavior of 3-dimensional setback structures two parameters, level of setback(L/sub s/) and degree of setback(R/sub s/) are used. Analysis results obtained from forty eight setback structures show that a sudden change in story shear near setback level is occurred for irregular setback structures. The effect of in-plane deformation of floor slabs on the seismic behavior of setback structures is greatly influenced by the arrangement of lateral load resisting elements and it is more pronounced for frame-shear wall system showing large difference in stiffness among the lateral load resisting elements. The in-plane deformation of floor slabs results in reduced base shear, especially for FW-type structures with L/sub s/=1.0. Also, it brings about reduced story shear for the lateral load resisting element with shear wall and increase in story shear lot the lateral load resisting element without shear wall. The in-plane deformation of floor slabs at the base portion and/or tower portion due to difference in stiffness among the lateral load resisting elements brings about increment of floor displacements at all floor level.
Purpose: to describe the histologic appearance of the type III bone bruise in knees which had sustained an acute anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rupture. Materials and Method: Twenty-five patients who sustained acute ACL rupture were prospectively enrolled in this study. On MRI, 14 patients demonstrated type III bone bruise on lateral femoral condyle, and 11 patients didn't demonstrated bone bruise. Arthroscopic evaluation and biopsy of the articular cartilage and subchondral bone wert performed before ACL reconstruction. Histologic and immunohistochemical evaluations were done. Results: There was no difference between the bone bruise and control group in the hematoxylin-eosin staining for cell distribution, Masson's trichrome staining for collagen and immunohistochemical staining for type I and type II collagen (p>0.05). But in the safranin-O staining for glycosaminoglycan distribution, the bone bruise group had an evidence of decreased staining at the superficial and middle layers, compared with the control group (p<0.05). We also found fatty change of bone marrow in calcified zone of the bone bruise group with safranin-O staining. Conclusion: We suggest that the type III bone bruise found on MRI indicates a substantial damage to normal articular cartilage homeostasis, and may induce further damage of the articular cartilage.
