횡방향 판재에 의한 횡구속 효과 및 철근콘크리트 기둥에서 고강도 철근의 사용성 검토 (Confinement Effect by Plate Type Lateral Reinforcement and Investigation of the Possibility for Use of High Strength Steel Bars in Reinforced Concrete Columns)

  • 콘크리트구조설계기준에서는 철근콘크리트 기둥에서 주철근의 설계기준항복강도를 550 MPa 이하로 규정하고 있다. 이는 철근콘크리트 기둥에 주철근으로 고강도 철근(high-strength concrete)을 사용할 때 콘크리트가 압축강도에 도달하여도 주철근이 항복변형률에 도달하지 않아 고강도 철근을 효율적으로 사용할 수 없기 때문이다. 철근의 설계기준항복강도 제한의 문제점을 해결하기 위한 방법으로는 횡구속력(confinement effect)을 가해주는 방법과 콘크리트의 파괴변형률(peak strain)을 증진시켜주는 방법이 있다. 횡구속을 효과적으로 가하는 방법으로서 원형 단면의 철근보다는 판재를 사용하는 것이 바람직하다. 이 연구에서는 가공이 용이한 판재로서 탄소섬유판을 철근콘크리트 기둥에서 횡구속효과를 위한 구조재료로 사용하였을 경우 보강되지 않은 경우보다 증진된 압축강도 및 축압축 파괴변형률을 보였으며, 콘크리트 단면 형상이 원형에 가까울수록, 횡구속 형태가 원형에 가까울수록 횡구속 효과는 더욱 커졌다. 최종적으로 실험 결과를 토대로 철근콘크리트 기둥에서 탄소섬유판에 의한 횡구속 효과와 함께 고강도 철근의 적용 가능성을 확인하였다.

  • This paper presents the results of a comprehensive experimental investigation on the compressive behaviour of steel tube-confined concrete (STCC) stub columns with active and passive confinement. To create active confinement in STCC columns, an innovative technique is used in which steel tube is laterally pre-tensioned while the concrete core is simultaneously pre-compressed by applying pressure on fresh concrete. A total of 135 STCC specimens with active and passive confinement are tested under axial compression load and their compressive strength, ultimate strain capacity, axial and lateral stress-strain curves and failure mode are evaluated. The test variables include concrete compressive strength, outer diameter to wall thickness ratio of steel tube and prestressing level. It is shown that applying active confinement on STCC specimens can considerably improve their mechanical properties. However, applying higher prestressing levels and keeping the applied pressure for a long time do not considerably affect the mechanical properties of actively confined specimens. Based on the results of this study, new empirical equations are proposed to estimate the axial strength and ultimate strain capacity of STCC stub columns with active and passive confinement.

  • RC교량의 내진성능은 교각에 충분한 연성도를 제공함으로써 확보할 수 있다. 이러한 연성도는 교각의 소성힌지 영역에 적절한 횡방향철근을 배근함으로써 실현할 수 있다. 횡방향철근에 의한 횡구속력은 유효구속력으로 결정되므로 단면형상과 횡방향철근량이 지배적인 요소가 된다. 동일한 횡방향철근량을 제공하더라도 설치간격, 배치형태, 갈고리 상세 등의 차이에 의해 유효구속력에 차이가 있게 된다. 후프띠철근에 의해 횡구속력을 발휘하는 원형단면과는 달리 사각 또는 중공사각단면에서는 유효구속력을 증가시키기 위해 보강띠철근이 함께 사용된다. 이러한 보강띠철근을 어떻게 고려하느냐에 따라 횡구속된 콘크리트의 응력-변형률 관계는 달라지게 된다. 본 연구에서는 실험을 통해 후프띠철근과 함께 보강띠철근을 갖는 정사각단면 콘크리트의 응력-변형률 관계를 파악하였으며 기존의 평가식과 비교를 통해 역학적 특성을 분석하였다.

Confinement Effects of High-Strength Reinforced Concrete Tied Columns

  • An experimental study was conducted to investigate the effectiveness of transverse steel in reinforced concrete tied columns subjected to monotonically increasing axial compression. Eighteen large-scale columns($260{\times}260{\times}1,200mm$) were tested. Effects of such main variables as concrete compressive strength, configurations of transverse steel, transverse reinforcement ratio, spacing of transverse steel, and spalling of concrete cover were investigated. High-strength concrete columns under concentric axial loads show extremely brittle behavior unless the columns are confined with transverse steel that can provide sufficiently high lateral confinement pressure. A consistent decrease in the deformability of the column test specimens was observed with increasing concrete strength. Test results of this study were compared with existing confinement models of modified Kent-Park, Sheikh-Uzumeri, Mander, and Saatcioglu-Razvi. The comparison indicates many existing models to predict the behavior of confined concrete overestimate or underestimate the ductility of confined concrete.

단일양자우물 Laser Diode에서 Stripe 폭이 문턱치에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Stripe Width on Threshold in Single Quantum Well Laser Diodes)

  • Gain-guided 구조를 갖는 단일양자우물 laser diode에서, stripe 폭에 따른 threshold의 변화를 복소수영역 유효굴적률방법을 이용하여 분석하였다. 분석결과 stripe 폭이 좁은 영역에서는, 측방향광집속률을 나타내기위하여 세롭게 도입된 변수 가 수직방향광집속률 가 감소함에따라 급격하게 감소하는 경향을 알아내었다. 따라서 일반적으로 매우작은 수직방향광집속률을 갖는 단일양자우물 laser diode에서는, stripe 폭의 크기에 따라서는 광집속률이 측방향은 물론 수직방향으로도 매우 나빠지게 됨으로 이득포와현상을 더욱 심하게시키게되며 경우에 따라서는 문턱전류가 비정상적으로 증가하는 현상으로 이어지게된다. 이와같은 문턱치의 stripe 폭에 대한 약간의 비정상적인 의존성을 이해하는 것은 양자우물 laser diode의 구조최적화에 있어서 매우 중요한 일이라고 판단된다.

철계 형상기억합금을 이용한 콘크리트 기둥의 전단보강 실험연구 (Experimental Study on Shear Retrofitting of Concrete Columns Using Iron-Based Shape Memory Alloy)

  • The current study investigates the seismic performance of shear-dominant RC columns retrofitted with iron-based shape memory alloy (Fe SMA). Three RC columns with insufficient transverse reinforcement were designed and fabricated for lateral cyclic loading tests. Before testing, two specimens were externally confined with carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) sheets and self-prestressed Fe SMA strips. The test results showed that both CFRP and Fe SMA performed well in preventing severe shear failure exhibited by the unretrofitted control specimen. Furthermore, the two retrofitted specimens showed ductile flexural responses up to the drift ratios of ±8%. In terms of damage control, however, the Fe SMA confinement was superior to CFRP confinement in that the spalling of concrete was much less and that the rupture of confinement did not occur.

  • This paper is the fundamental study for manufacture of spalling resistance concrete and also analyses the mechanism and spalling resistance method with materials, mixture proportion and lateral confinement. The present work with the basic experiment achieved successful method for spalling resistance using both proper amounts of fiber contents and lateral confinement using metal lath. Moreover, the developed spalling resistance method was applied for full sized column construction in the Doosan We've Poseidon I field, located in Busan city. Authors investigated the physical properties examining workability, placeability and pumpability. These studies are continuously processing to develop new technology expecting remarkable impact on the spalling resistance and fire resistance performance of high-raise building construction in the future.

  • This study discusses spalling and fire enduring performance of high performance concrete (HPC) RC column subjected to loading under heating for 3 hours. According to the test, both the plain concrete and the concrete attached with fire enduring PC panel exceed allowable temperature after 60 minutes due to the exposure of steel bar and falling off of concrete resulting from severe spalling failure. It leads to buckling of main bar and at the same time, occurrence of collapse of plain HPC column member is observed after 2 hours and 1 hour 40 minutes's exposure to fire, respectively. On the other hand, HPC applying both PP fiber of 0.1$\%$ by mass of concrete and PP fiber+lateral confinement by metal lath maintains their original cross section, which is satisfied with the 3 hours fire endurance criteria, by discharging internal vapour pressure and enhanced lateral confinement force.

  • This paper investigates experimentally the confinement effect on concrete. For this purpose, outside lateral reinforcement members made of stainless steel and GFRP were employed. Then, uniaxial compressive tests on concrete cylinders incorporating the members were conducted. A total of 30 cylinder specimens, specifically, 6 unconfined specimens, 12 specimens confined by stainless steel and 12 specimens confined by GFRP, were fabricated. The failure patterns of both unconfined and confined specimens were assessed and discussed based on experimental results. The results proved that the maximum stress and corresponding strains of the cylinders confined using the proposed hoops are increased in comparison with those of the unconfined. This supports that the current work can be used for retrofitting concrete members and structures and thus may lead to increased stability of such structures.
