  • LAT(Laser Assisted Turning) is a method that applies a machining process after softening a workpiece in which a preheating process is locally applied to its machining section using laser heat source. LAT shows several advantages, such as high productivity, reduction of manufacturing cost, high quality. Analysis of temperature distribution after preheating for LAT is very difficult due to its very small heat input area and large energy and its movement. Also, the LAT for a square bar is more difficult because the shape of a laser heat source can be changed according to the rotation of the workpiece. In this study, thermal analysis for LAT of square bar was performed using laser heat source projection method. And, the analysis results were compared with the results of the prior study of numerical calculation method. It is thus shown that the proposed method is efficient for the thermal analysis of a shaped bar.

  • One of the major limitations of productivity and quality in machining is machining accuracy of the machine tools. The machining accuracy is affected by geometric, volumetric errors of the machine tools. This paper suggests the enhancement method of machining accuracy for precision machining of high quality metal reflection mirror or optics lens, etc. In this paper, we study 1) the compensation of linear pitch error with NC controller compensation function using laser interferometer measurement, 2) the method for enhancing the accuracy of NC milling machining by modeling and compensation of volumetric error, 3) the generation of the parabolic face profile. And the method is verified by the parabolic face machining experiment with a vertical three axes NC milling machine. After this study, we will inspect using On-machine measurement and study the repetitive machining by a compensated path

  • Self-Assembled Monolayers(SAMs) by alkanethiol adsorption to thin metal film are widely being investigated fer applications as coating layer for anti-stiction or friction reduction and in fabrication of micro structure of molecule and bio molecule. Recently, there have been many researches on micro patterning using the advantages of very thin thickness and etching resistance of Self-Assembled Monolayers in selective etching of thin metal film. In this report, we present the several machining method to form the nanoscale structure by Mask-Less laser patterning using alknanethiolate Self-Assembled Monolayers such as thin metal film etching and heterogeneous SAMs structure formation.

  • Ceramics are being increasingly used in industry due to their outstanding physical and chemical properties. But these materials are difficult to machine by traditional machining processes, because they are hard and brittle. Recently, as one of various alternative processes, laser-beam machining is widely used in the cutting of ceramics. Although the use of lasers presents a number of advantages over other methods, one of the problems associated with this process is the uncertain formation of cracks that result from the thermal stresses. This paper presents a Bayesian probabilistic modeling of crack formation over thin alumina plates during laser cutting.

  • It is absolutely that jewelry industry are cut and formed by using Nd-YAG laser for most accuracy shapes. Moreover, Jewelry manufacturing is needed to be more precise working, more saved time and more improved finance. So, This Study will show the ideas which make exactly formed shape and advanced qualities when cutting Ag-alloy. This ideas will give the fact that beginners are able to use easily to change and compound the form of jewelries by using Nd-YAG laser.

  • Laser machining technique, which is used focusing pulse YAG laser beam irradiation was applied to form area ratio controlled model cut-edge on pre painted Zn coated steels. A corrosion behavior of formed model cut-edge was investigated by rest potential measurement in 1 mol $m^{-3}$ NaCl with and without 0.5 kmol $m^{-3}$ $H_3BO_4$/0.05kmol$m^{-3}$ $Na_2B_4O_7$. The rest potential showed almost constant value with fluctuations. The amplitude of fluctuations increased with exposed area of steel surface. White corrosion products of zinc oxide and simonkollite was formed after the experiments at the formed model cut-edge.

  • In this paper, it is proposed a method of optimizing path parameters for large-area laser processing. On-the-fly system is necessary for large-area laser processing of uniform quality. It is developed a MOTF(Marking On-The-Fly) board for synchronizing the stage and scanner. And it is introduced the change of the error due to the change of parameters and algorithm for large-area laser processing. This algorithm automatically generates stage path and a velocity profile using acceleration and deceleration parameters. Since this method doesn't use a G-code, even if without expert knowledge, it has an advantage that can be accessed easily. Angle of one of the square of $350{\times}350mm$ was changed from $50^{\circ}$ to $80^{\circ}$ and analyzed the error corresponding to the value of Ta. It is calculated the value of Ta of the best with a precision of 20um through measurement of accuracy according to the Ta of each angle near the edge.

  • Laser Material Processing has been replaced the conventional machining systems - cutting, drilling, welding and surface modification and so on. Especially, LTH(Laser Transformation Hardening) process is one branch of the laser surface modification process. Conventionally, some techniques like a gas carburizing and nitriding as well as induction and torch heating have been used to harden the carbon steels. But these methods not only request post-machining resulted from a deformation but also have complex processing procedures. Besides, LTH process has some merits as : 1. It is easy to control the case depth because of output(laser power) adjustability. 2. It is able to harden the localized and complicated a.ea and minimize a deformation due to a unique property of a localized heat source. 3. An additional cooling medium is not required due to self quenching. 4. A prominent hardening results can be obtained. This study is related to the surface hardening of the rod-shaped carbon steel applied to the lathe based complex processing mechanism, a basic behavior of surface hardening, hardness distribution and structural characteristics in the hardened zone.
