Field investigations of forests are carried out by writing measured data by hand, and it is a hassle to reorganize the results after a field survey. In this study, a method using object modeling and augmented reality (AR) was applied in a test forest to increase the efficiency of a field investigations. Using a 3D laser scanner, data on were acquired 387 trees within an area of 1 ha at the study site. The coordinates, height, and diameter were calculated through object extraction and modeling of a tree. The proposed can reduce the time required to acquire data in the field and can be used as basic data for building related systems. In addition, the modeling results of trees and a survey using GNSS and AR techniques can be used check coordinates, labor, and attribute information, such as the chest height diameter of the trees being surveyed in the field. The shortcomings of the survey method could be improved. In the future, the method could greatly improve the efficiency of tree surveys and monitoring by reducing the manpower and time required for field surveys.
Hepatitis B virus (HBV) genome P-encoded protein HBV DNA polymerase (Pol) has long been known as a reverse transcriptase during HBV replication. In this study, we investigated the impact of HBV Pol on host cellular processes, mainly apoptosis, and the underlying mechanisms. We showed a marked reduction in apoptotic rates in the HBV Pol-expressed HepG2 cells compared to controls. Moreover, a series of assays, i.e., yeast two-hybrid, GST pull-down, co-immunoprecipitation, and confocal laser scanning microscopy, identified the host factor eEF1A2 to be associated with HBV Pol. Furthermore, knockdown of eEF1A2 gene by siRNA abrogated the HBV Pol-mediated anti-apoptotic effect with apoptosis induced by endoplasmatic reticulum (ER) stress-inducer thapsigargin (TG), thus suggesting that the host factor eEF1A2 is essential for HBV Pol's anti-apoptosis properties. Our findings have revealed a novel role for HBV Pol in its modulation of apoptosis through integrating with eEF1A2.

We developed smartphone application and web application server to acquire and effectively manage tree measurement information. Smartphone applications can measure tree height, diameter at breast height (DBH), azimuth, altitude, slope, and positional coordinates using augmented reality (Google AR core) and motion sensors. The web application server effectively manages and stores measurement information. To evaluate the accuracy of information acquired using a smartphone, 90 Korean pine trees (Pinus koraiensis) were randomly selected from a natural mixed forest, with a total of 90 representative trees randomly collected from a natural mixed forest. Then, height and DBH were measured using a Haglof Vertex Laser Hypsometer and caliper. Comparisons of the results indicated significant results at the 95% level and a very high average correlation of 0.972 for both tree height and DBH. In terms of DBH, the average errors were 0.6745 cm and 1.0139 cm for artificial coniferous and natural mixed forests, respectively.

The purpose of this study is to manufacture a variable density - hybrid lattice structure control by filling the pore of the metal addictive manufactured lattice structure with lightweight reactive acrylic compounds(RAC). To apply the variable density - hybrid lattice structure to the construction industry, the enhancing adhesion - reactive acrylic compounds(EA-RAC) which increased the adhesion strength was manufactured by adding ordinary portland cement to the RAC. Finally, the EA-RAC was filled into the lattice structure to test the specific density, water absorption, and adhesion strength of the variable density - hybrid lattice structure. The results were obtained with density controllable, water absorption less than 1.0%, and 1-day bonding strength of 1.78 MPa to 1.98 MPa.

Foreign object debris (FOD) is a generic term for all substances that may pose a threat to aircraft operations on a runway. In the past, FOD detection and collection methods using human resources were very inefficient in terms of efficiency and economics, so it is essential to develop an unmanned FOD detection system suitable for domestic use. In this paper, the fixed FOD automatic detection system and mobile FOD automatic detection system using EO camera and radar were studied and developed at the Taean airfield of Hanseo University, and fixed and mobile method were operated to confirm that automatic FOD detection in the runway of the airfield is possible regardless of illumination and weather conditions.
Microencapsulation is a protective process for materials that are sensitive to harsh conditions encounted during food manufacture and storage. The objectives of this research were to manufacture a milk protein-based delivery system (MPDS) containing Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG (LGG) using skim milk powder and to investigate the effects of manufacturing variables, such as reaction temerpature and holding time, on the physiccohemical properties of MPDS and viability of LGG under dairy food processing and storage conditions. MPDS was prepared using chymosin at varing reaction temperatures from 25℃ to 40℃ for 10 min and holding times from 5 to 30 min at 25℃. The morphological and physicochemical properties of MPDS were evaluated using a confocal laser scanning microscope and a particle size analyzer, respectively. The number of viable cells were determined using the standard plate method. Spherical-shaped MPDS particles were successfully manufactured. The particle size of MPDS was increased with a decrease in reaction temperature and an increase in holding time. As reaction temperature and holding time were increased, the encapsulation efficiency of LGG in MPDS was increased. During pasteurization, the use of MPDS resulted in an increase in the LGG viability. The encapsulation of LGG in MPDS led to an increase in the viability of LGG in simulated gastric fluid. In addition, the LGG viability was enhanced with an increase in reaction temperature and holding time. In conclusions, the encapsulation of LGG in MPDS could be an effective way of improving the viability of LGG during pasturization process in various foods.

Arc fault detector based on multilevel DWT with analysis of high-frequency noise components over 100 kHz is proposed in this study to improve the performance in detecting serial arcs and distinguishing them from inverter noise in PV systems. PV inverters generally operate at a frequency range of 20-50 kHz for switching operation and maximum power tracking control, and the effect of these frequency components on the signal for arc detection leads to negative arc detection. High-speed ADC and multilevel DWT are used in this study to analyze frequency components above 100 kHz. Such high frequency components are less influenced by inverter noise and utilized to detect as well as separate DC series arc from inverter noise. Arc detectors identify the input current of PV inverters using a Rogowski coil. The sensed signal is filtered, amplified, and used in 800kSPS ADC and DWT analysis and arc occurrence determination in DSP. An arc detection simulation facility in UL1699B was constructed and AFD tests the proposed detector were conducted to verify the performance of arc detection and performance of distinction of the negative arc. The satisfactory performance of the arc detector meets the standard of arc detection and extinguishing time of UL1699B with an arc detection time of approximately 0.11 seconds.

Chemotherapy-induced alopecia and hair loss can be stressful in patients with cancer. The hair grows back, but sometimes the hair tends to stay thin. Therefore, understanding mechanisms regulating hair regeneration may improve the management of chemotherapy-induced alopecia. Previous studies have revealed that chemotherapeutic agents induce a hair follicle vascular injury. As hair growth is associated with micro-vessel regeneration, we postulated that the stimulation of angiogenesis might enhance hair regeneration. In particular, mice treated with 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) showed delayed anagen initiation and reduced capillary density when compared with untreated controls, suggesting that the retardation of anagen initiation by 5-FU treatment may be attributed to the loss of perifollicular micro-vessels. We investigated whether the ETS transcription factor ETV2 (aka ER71), critical for vascular development and regeneration, can promote angiogenesis and hair regrowth in a 5-FU-induced alopecia mouse model. Tie2-Cre; Etv2 conditional knockout (CKO) mice, which lack Etv2 in endothelial cells, presented similar hair regrowth rates as the control mice after depilation. Following 5-FU treatment, Tie2-Cre; Etv2 CKO mice revealed a significant reduction in capillary density, anagen induction, and hair restoration when compared with controls. Mice receiving lentiviral Etv2 injection after 5-FU treatment showed significantly improved anagen induction and hair regrowth. Two-photon laser scanning microscopy revealed that enforced Etv2 expression restored normal vessel morphology after 5-FU mediated vessel injury. Our data suggest that vessel regeneration strategies may improve hair regrowth after chemotherapeutic treatment.

Antibiotic resistance is a serious problem to food safety as well as human healthcare. To avoid this, there are several approaches for a new class of antibiotic agents that target only production of virulence factors such as biofilm without bacterial growth defect. The objective of this study was to investigate the antibiofilm activity of tuberostemonine in Staphylococcus aureus. Tuberostemonine significantly reduced the biofilm formation (26.07-47.02%) in the crystal violet assay whereas there were no effect on S. aureus growth. The dispersion in preformed biofilm was also observed by confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM). Quantification real-time PCR revealed that the icaA and agrA expression having an important role in biofilm production of S. aureus were strongly affected with tuberostemonine. These results suggest that tuberostemonine has potential for controlling biofilm formation and dispersion by effect on virulence regulation of S. aureus.
