Microstructural examinations were performed on the anaerobic biofilm from reactor filled with PE support media. Optical microscope, SEM and fluorescent microscope were used for qualitative and morphological studies on the attached microorganism under anaerobic condition. Microorganisms were attached in crevices where protection from shear forces of surfaces where easy to contact with support media surface. A hypothesis for biofilm accumulation occurs on a surface such as polymer support media is presented schematically : 1st step ; cell-support media attachment, 2nd step ; cell-support media attachment and cell-cell attachment, 3rd step ; attached biofilm from neighboring crevices joins together and growing, 4th step ; mature and irregualar biofilm was formed. In SEM photographs, shape and structures of biofilm were observed, but microorganism species and methanogens were not identified. A large number of methanogenic bacteria were identified on the surface of PE substratum by fluorescence under 480nm of radiation and it was estimated that methanogenic bacteria was related to initial attachment of bacteria under anaerobic condition.

The velocity and pressure fields of a ship's Weis-Fogh type propulsion mechanism are studied in this paper using an advanced vortex method. The wing (NACA0010 airfoil) and channel are approximated by source and vortex panels. and free vortices are introduced away from the body surfaces. The viscous diffusion of fluid is represented using the core-spreading model to the discrete vortices. The velocity is calculated on the basis of the generalized Biot-Savart law and the pressure field is calculated from an integral, based on the instantaneous velocity and vorticity distributions in the flow field. Two-dimensional unsteady viscous flow calculations of this propulsion mechanism are shown. and the calculated results agree qualitatively with the measured thrust and drag due to un-modeled large fluctuations in the measured data.
In this study, we performed three dimensional(3-D) modeling and simulation of terrain surfaces by using large scale aerial photographs. The objectives of this study are to use landscape analysis including 3-D database of built environments. The test area is selected around Olympic stadium located in Susung-gu, Daegu. A 1:5,000 scale of ortho-photo map is generated by photogrammetric procedures from 1:20,000 scale of aerial photographs, Digital Elevation Model (DEM) is also extracted from stereo aerial photographs or digital maps. The heights of buildings are determined using GPS control survey and aerial photographs in the test area, DEMs are extracted from the digital map. And then the two are combined three-dimensional changes of landscape views of buildings with terrain are simulated.
In order to minimize turnaround of machining in FMS lines, CAD/CAM/CAT integrated system called MascCAM was developed. Developing enhanced CAM and inspection modules in the MascCAM environment, 2D came, 2 $^{1}$2/ D prismatic parts and 3D free-formed surfaces were able to be automatically designed, manufactured and inspected on the machine tools by using AutoCAM and Z-map. Introducing Z-map technique, the MascCAM was able to be interfaceed with and CAD system. Developed QPPGT module generates a quick and fool-proof inspection work to users. A vertical and a horizontal machining center equipped with FANUC OMC were used for experiments. Performance of the system was confirmed by a large amount of experiments.
The floating ring seal is used in an oxidizer and a fuel pump of the turbo pump unit in the liquid rocket engine to optimize a leakage without rubbing phenomenon. The damper floating ring seal, one of the floating ring seals, is with round hole pattern surfaces. It can reduce the leakage by increased friction factor that obtained from experimental data. In this paper, the leakage test about floating ring seal and damper floating ring seal was conducted. The test result showed the leakage performance of damper floating ring seal was better than the leakage performance of floating ring seal. With the leakage test the lock-up and rotation test about seal was conducted and that position is measured. The relatively large lock-up eccentric ratio was obtained from the test result of damping floating ring seal. The attitude angle of seal increases with increasing of shaft rotation.
Microstructural evolution and dry sliding wear behavior of ultra-fine grained 5052 Al alloy obtained by an accumulative roll-bonding process have been investigated. After 7 ARB cycles, ultra-fine grains with large misorientations between neighboring grains were obtained. The grain size was about 0.2$\mu\textrm{m}$. The hardness, tensile and yield strengths of the ultra-fine grained alloy increased as the amount of accumulated strain increased with the ARB cycles. Sliding wear teats of the ultra-fine grained 5052 Al alloy were conducted at room temperature. Wear rate of the ultra-fine grained alloy increased in spite of the increase of hardness. Surfaces of the worn specimens were examined with SEM to investigate wear mechanism of the ultra-fine grained alloy.
The strain state during the continuous confined strip shearing (CCSS) based on ECAP was tackled by means of a two-dimensional FEM analysis. The deformation of AA 1100 sheet in the CCSS apparatus was composed of three distinct processes of rolling, bending and shearing. The pronounced difference in the friction conditions on the upper and lower roll surfaces led to the different variation of the strain component ${epsilon}_13$ throughout the thickness of the aluminum sheet. Strain accompanying bending was negligible because of a large radius of curvature. The shear deformation was concentrated at the corner of the CCSSchannel where the abrupt change in the direction of material flow occurred. The process variables involving the CCSS-die design and frictions between tools and strip influenced the evolution of shear strains during CCSS.
We experienced a case of infective endocarditis of aortic valve and tricuspid valve associated with a fistula between aorta and right ventricle. The patient was 35 years old woman and showed severe congestive heart failure. Large and multiple vagetations were found on the valvular surfaces and a fistula was present between aorta and right ventricle. Probably infective endocarditis of aortic valve resulted in annular abscess and as it healed, a fistula was formed and tricuspid valve endocarditis followed. We replaced the aortic valve and tricuspid valve with St. Jude mechanical prostheses, and closed the fistula opening with suture. The postoperative course was smooth and the patient has no problems till now 4 months after operation.

Remote sensing (RS) data show the surfaces of the earth only but cannot provide the shape data of building sides. The proposed method recovers a 3D shape of building sides from stereo images. Its result shows a higher possibility for recovering a large shaped object by overcoming the difficulties of traditional stereo matching techniques. The urban area will be visualized more realistically than the current model based on graphic and vector data.
This paper proposes a method to calculate magnetostrictive forces, displacement, and vibration modes of a large-scale Brushless DC(BLDC) motor by using a magneto-mechanically strong coupling formulation. The force is calculated using the energy method with magnetostrictive stress tensor. The mechanical vibration modes are also analyzed by using the principle of Hamilton and the calculated magneto-elastic forces acting on the surfaces of the stator. To verify the algorithm, 3 MW BLDC motor is simulated, and the forces, displacements, and vibration modes are calculated. The result shows that the mechanically stressed core has more deformation or displacements than those of the normal condition.
