This study aimed to identify the characteristics of fish inhabiting Hapcheon Dam and surrounding rivers and the Bluegill population, an invasive species, and provide basic data. The survey of fish living in Hapcheon Dam and surrounding tributaries in the Ulsan area from 2016 to 2017 identified a total of 1,785 individuals of 30 species of 10 families and identified 8 Korea's endemic species (21.8% indigenization rate), 3 exotic species, and 2 ecosystem disturbance species. The comparison of this study with the past survey showed that 36 species of 12 families were reported in the past survey, but 14 species of them were not found in this study. We believe that a more detailed survey of Lake Hapcheon should identify most of them. The analysis of the length-weight relationship for the Bluegill population, identified as the dominant species in the Hapcheon Lake, showed that a large number of populations was in the stage of rapid growth as a large number of populations aged 1 to 2 years was found. Since the obesity level and the length-weight relationship were confirmed to be in good condition, it was necessary to prepare a plan to control the Bluegill population. We expect that this study's results can be useful data for understanding the growth and trends of the Bluegill population inhabiting the Hapcheon Dam and surrounding rivers.
Recently, the defect maintenance period of the new construction structure was extended from 5 years to 10 years. And according to change of realization on the quality of construction and maintenance, a development of semi-permanent method of construction is required for maintenance of blind parts of underwater structure, such as bridge, dam, harbor, etc. In this study, we proposed a floating type sector dry caisson, which is effective to the maintenance of submerged large structures. These large structures were being maintained incompletely, partly due to unskilled divers and difficult working condition. Considering the easiness of access to the maintenance area and the cost for set up the working structure, especially for the case of structure slabs close to the sea surface and harrow pile span structures, we developed and introduced a sector dry caisson instead of the full caisson structure. By doing this, it is easy to move out the caisson rapidly in emergence case. Therefore, we expect that the floating sector caisson will contribute to reduce working time and improve the quality of underwater work in future days.
The importance of direct genetic, maternal, heterosis and epistatic effects were examined on post-weaning weight, height, length, girth, fat depth and muscle (ratio of stifle to hip width) with dry and wet season gains in these traits. The breeds used were two pure breeds (Jersey and Limousin), the Limousin${\times}$Jersey $F_1$, and two backcrosses ($F_1{\times}$Jersey dams and $F_1{\times}$Limousin dams). Direct genetic effects were large (p<0.001) for all traits except for length. Jersey maternal effects were large for weight, girth, fat depth and muscle in the post-weaning wet season gains which is an evidence of the impact of Jersey dam on progeny beyond weaning. There were large heterosis effects on fat depth and muscle relative to other traits. Epistatic effects were observed for post-weaning performance in weight, girth, fat depth and muscle. There are indications that there were different genetic effects for post-weaning compared to preweaning growth traits. Thus, it could be hypothesized from this study that different quantitative trait loci (QTL) affect early and late growth in Jersey and Limousin cross cattle breeds. The follow up work will examine the different chromosomal gene effects on pre- and post-weaning growth.
In this report, we described a case of acute colic with uterine rupture in a Thoroughbred broodmare during parturition. A 14-year-old broodmare showed acute colic characterized by rolling just after delivering of a healthy foal. Large intestine was prolapsed through vulva, contaminated with soil and its serosa was heavily damaged. We performed a euthanasia according to the owner's request. Post mortem examination revealed about 15 cm rupture on ventral side of the uterus. In addition, the orphan foal follow his owner after necropsy on his dam.

As the wave impinges on and overtops the structure, a large highly aerated region is created in front of the structure and water splashs on top of the structure. The broken wave in front of the structure and associated green water on top of the structure are highly aerated containing not only a large number of bubbles but also very large sizes of bubbles. In this paper, the velocity field of the highly aerated region and the splashing water on the top is measured using a modified PIV method incorporating the traditional PIV method with the shadowgraphy technigue by correlating the ' texture ' of the bubble images. The velocity fields of a plunging wave impacting on a structure in a two-dimensional wave flume is measured. It is found that the maximum fluid particle velocity in flout of the structure during the impinging process is about 1.5 times the phase speed of the wave, while the maximum horizontal velocity above the top is less than the phase speed, It is also found that the dam breaking solution does not work well in predicting the green water velocity.
This study aims to examine the population characteristics of the fish and the bluegill (Lepomis macrochirus), designated as ecologically disturbing fish, living in four water dams in the Ulsan area and to provide basic data. The survey of fish living in 4 water dams and surrounding tributaries in the Ulsan area from 2016 to 2017 found a total of 1,987 individuals of 28 species of 9 families and identified 6 Korea's endemic species is (21.4% indigenous rate), 4 exotic species, and 2 ecosystem disturbing species. Based on the number of fishes identified, the dominant species was Lepomis macrochirus, and the subdominant species was Hemiculter eigenmanni. The investigation of the age structure of the L. macrochirus found in the 4 water dams in the Ulsan area showed a large population of 1 to 2 old, and the population was growing fast. Moreover, the analysis of the total length-weight relationship and obesity of the L. macrochirus population showed that the regression coefficient b of the total length-weight relationship was greater than 3.0, and the habitat of the L. macrochirus population was in good condition. Obesity had a positive slope, and the growth state was relatively good. The result of this study can be used as useful data to predict the trend of the L. macrochirus fauna inhabiting in 4 water dams in the Ulsan area.
The modeling of uplift pressure within dam, on the foundation on which it was constructed, and on the interface between the dam and foundation is a critical aspect in the analysis of concrete gravity dams, i.e. crack stability in concrete dam can correctly be predicted when uplift pressures are accurately modelled. Current models consider a uniform uplift distribution, but recent experimental results show that it varies along the crack faces and the procedures for modeling uplift pressures are well established for the traditional hand-calculation methods, but this is not the case for finite element (FE) analysis. In large structures, such as dams, because of smaller size of the fracture process zone with respect to the structure size, limited errors should occur under the assumptions of linear elastic fracture mechanics (LEFM). In this paper, the fracture behaviour of concrete gravity dams mainly subjected to uplift Pressure at the crack face was studied. Triangular type, trapezoidal type and parabolic type distribution of the uplift pressure including uniform type were considered in case of evaluating stress intensity factor by surface integral method. The effects of body forces, overtopping pressures are also considered and a parametric study of gravity dams under the assumption of LEFM is performed.

The biogeochemical information of riverine organic matter gives a detailed and integrated recording of natural and anthropogenic activity within a watershed. To investigate the changes in quality and quantity of organic carbon transporting from mountain to ocean via river channels, we estimated the concentrations of dissolved (DOC) and particulate organic carbon (POC), and then traced the source origin of POC using stable carbon isotopes ratio before and after summer rainfalls in the Tamjin River and Ganjin Bay, Korea. Along the small watershed, a total of 13 sites including headwaters, dam reservoir, river and estuary were established for the study. We found some interesting findings in the aspect of distribution of DOC/POC concentration changing their origin sources dynamically flowing downstream. In particular, the river channel transport downstream mainly DOC to river mouth, although upper dam reservoir increased POC concentration by phytoplankton production in summer. Whereas, in the river mouth and estuary, POC was dominated not only by local supply from nearby reed saltmarsh, but also by marine phytoplankton production, respectively. The findings can contribute to increasing the understanding of riverine organic carbon transport in upper large dam and lower open estuary system.
This study compared the influence of water quality according to the data sources of spatial information. Firstly, land cover map was constructed through image classification of Daecheong-dam basin and the accuracy of image classification from satellite image showed high as 88.76% in comparison with the large-scaled land cover map in Ministry of Environment, to calculate Event Mean Concentration (EMC) by land cover that impact on the evaluation of nonpoint source pollutant loads. Also curve number and direct runoff were calculated by spatial overlay with soil map and land cover map from image classification. And Seokcheon and Daecheong-Dam basin showed high in the analysis of curve number and direct runoff. Samgacheon-Joint and Sokcheon-Downstream basin showed high in the nonpoint source pollutant loads of BOD from direct runoff and EMC. And Samgacheon-Joint and Bonghwangcheon- Downstream basin showed high in the nonpoint source pollutant loads of TN and TP. Nonpoint source pollutant loads from image classification were compared with those by the land cover map from Ministry of Environment to present the effectivity of nonpoint source pollutant loads from satellite image. And Daecheong-Dam Upstream basin showed high as 10.64%, 11.70% and 20.00% respectively in the errors of nonpoint source pollutant loads of BOD, TN, and TP. Therefore, it is desirable that spatial information including with paddy and dry field is applied to the evaluation of nonpoint source pollutant loads in order to simulate water quality of basin effectively.
In thisletter, we developed technology which can exclude effect of cloudsto perform remote waterbody detection based on Sentinel-2 optical satellite imagery to calculate the area of ungauged reservoirs and applied to the Hwanggang dam reservoir, a representative ungauged reservoir, to verify usability. The remote waterbody detection technology calculates the cloud blocking ratio by comparing the cloud boundary in the Sentinel-2 imagery and the reservoir boundary first. Next, itselects data whose cloud blocking ratio does not exceed a specific value and calculates NDWI (Normalized Difference Water Index) with selected imagery. In last, it calculatesthe area of the reservoir by counting the number of grids which have NDWI value considered as waterbody within the boundary of the target reservoir and correcting with cloud blocking ratio. To determine cloud blocking ratio threshold forselecting image, we performed the area calculation of Hwanggang dam reservoir from July 2018 to October 2021. As a result, when the cloud blocking ratio threshold wasset 10%, we confirmed that the result with large error due to clouds were filtered well and obtained 114 results that can show changes in Hwanggang dam reservoir area among 220 images.
