HR Practices of IT-Based Companies in Korea

  • The research question in this study was to see whether there were similarities and differences in HR practices of IT-based companies in Korea. Interviews with 12 HR executives and a survey of 51 IT-based companies showed that there were IT industry-specific HR practices, but no group differences except one. The only one difference between two groups (small- and medium-sized firms versus multinational corporations) indicated that the latter was better positioned in various HR practices. Four HR themes emerged from analyses of interviews and a survey data: business environment, workforce management, HR practices, and HR for competitive advantage. The fact that none from large companies was found to have female HR executive calls for an in-depth study of what is occurring and what could be done to better the workplace in terms of diversity. A large-scale study using diverse methods in the future will produce more meaningful findings on HR practices in IT-based firms in Korea.

  • SME is a major company to keep employment in Korea and highly depends on large company as vendor. R&D is critical to keep its position under the global competition. Government makes a policy to support SME R&D investement. We reviewed SMBA(Small and Medium Business Administration) policy for SME R&D and try to find alternatives. One of the alternatives is to increase a budget for large and SME co-development program.

A Case Study on the Aggregate Planning of Multi-product Small-batch Production Facilities: Focusing on System Dynamics Simulation Modeling (다품종 소량생산 설비의 총괄생산계획에 관한 사례 연구: 시스템다이내믹스 시뮬레이션 모델링을 중심으로)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to guide the operation managers who plan daily production of large mass-processing facility that services multi-customers with multi-product, small-batch item characteristics by providing the practical best production quantity and the inventory allowed to build. Methods: Close observation of a subcontract paint-shop operator captured the daily decision process which was reflected in the subcontractor-unique mathematical model and the system dynamics simulation model. Multiple simulations were run to find the practical best production quantity and the maximum allowable stock level of inventory that did not undermine the profit from practical best daily production. Actual data and a few constant values were obtained from the firm under study. Results: While the inventory holding cost for the customer-owned material harms the total profit of the subcontractor, the running cost of the processing facility hinders production in small batches. This balances the maximum possible productions and results in practical best daily production which can be found through simulation runs with actual data. The maximum level of stocked inventory is deduced from the practical best daily production. Conclusion: To build a large volume that enables economy-of-scale production, operators should deal with multi-product small-batch items from multiple customers. When the planned schedule of the time and amount of material in-flow tend not to be reliable, operators can find it practical to execute level production across the planning horizon instead of adjusting to day-to-day in-flow fluctuations.

Researching Internal and External Stakeholder Orientation of Sustainable Supply Chain Management (조직 내·외부이해관계자의 사회적 책임 지향성이 지속가능한 공급사슬 관리에 미치는 영향)

  • Interest in sustainable management based on the stakeholder perspective is expanding not only within an organization but also across the supply chain. For large companies that have established networks, sustainability management of the supply chain is now a factor that not only determines the social performance of the company as a whole, but also determines its long-term competitive position. Despite these changes in the business world, especially the proliferation of the sustainable supply chain management (SSCM) system, systematic research on SSCM has been lacking. In particular, there was a lack of empirical analysis on which factors promoted the establishment of the SSCM system for large companies and what's the effects of SSCM. In this regard, this study analyzes i) the impact of the social responsibility pressure of customers as external stakeholders and the CSR orientation of purchasing managers as internal stakeholders on supply chain transparency and partnership cooperation respectively, and ii) whether supply chain transparency and partnership cooperation can enhance corporate reputation. The samples used in this study were 69 large companies representing Korea. The results showed that the social responsibility pressure of customers and the purchasing manager's CSR orientation were positively related to the transparency of the supply chain. However, for partnership cooperation, only the purchasing manager's CSR orientation was found to have a positive and significant effect. Meanwhile, both supply chain transparency and partnership cooperation were positively related to the corporate reputation. At the end of the study, discussions on the implications of the results and future research directions will be presented.

생명공학과 담배 및 다른 작물들의 응용 현황

  • 농업 유전공학 기술은 생산성 향상, 환경보전, 식품의 안정성 및 품질향상에 기여함은 물론 농업의 경쟁력을 높일 수 있는 유일한 대안으로 인식되고 있다. 전 세계적으로 유전자 재조합 작물의 경작지는 2000년 한해동안 지난해 같은 기간에 비해 11% 증가하였으며 이는 1996년 대비 25배 증가하였고, 선진국과 개발도상국은 각각 2%, 51% 1999년 대비 증가하였다. 1983년 유전자 재조합에 의한 식물의 형질전환이 성공한 뒤 종묘업계는 형질전환 종자개발과 보급에 열중하고 있으며 종자시장에 형질전화 품종이 차지하는 비율은 2000년 30억 달러에서 2010년이면 전체의 60%인 200억 달러에 이를 것으로 전망된다. 1995년 제초제 저항성 콩(라운드업레디콩)이 농가에 보급된 이후 2000년 형질전환품종 재배면적이 3990만 ha에 이르렀고 1997년 미국과 캐나다는 옥수수, 대두, 면화, 감자, 유채 등의 형질전환 품종 재배로 각각 3억1400만 달러, 5300만 달러를 벌어들였음. 형질전환 품종의 보급 증가속도는 소비자들의 GMO에 대한 거부반응으로 다소 주춤한 상태이다. 그러나 최근 종자회사들은 생태계 위해성 논란을 피해갈 수 있는 연구로 이러한 상황을 돌파하려 하고 있다. 우리나라에서도 유전자변형 생물체에 관한 법률이 제정되었으며 많은 대학과 연구소에서 형질전환 연구가 꾸준히 이루어지고 있고 최근 제초제 저항성 벼와 바이러스 저항성 감자가 개발돼 GMO 안정성 점검에 들어가 있고, 살충성 배추, 혈압강하 토마토, 지방산 강화 들깨, 병저항성 고추 등도 실험실과 포장에서 재배되고 있다. 이르면 4-5년 뒤 형질전환 작물들이 농가에 보급될 전망이다. 이처럼 체크 툴은 Firewall의 수비능력을 보강하는 위치에 있다고 생각할 수 있다.다. 4 장에서는 3장에서 제기한 각각의 문제점에 대해 RAD 의 관점에 비추어 e-business 시스템의 단기개발을 실현하기 위한 고려사항이나 조건 해결책을 제안한다. 본 논문이 지금부터 e-business 를 시작하려고 하는 분, e-business 시스템의 개발을 시작하려고 하는 분께 단기간의 e-business 실현을 위한 하나의 지침이 된다면 다행이겠다.formable template is used to optimize the matching.   • Lately, electronic commerce through the Internet has been rising in attention. An important element in such commerce is EDI. EDI is mainly used with VAN but its use is not common due to the high cost of EDI transfer. Thus, only large corporations with frequent use of EDI are able U benefit from it, To smaller companies that have small usage, EDI is becoming a burden. Considering this fact as well as current changes within the enterprise environment, it is apparent that a new generation of EDI is required. To resolve the problems of VAN EDI, the proposed Internal EDI was implemented. Internet EDI deals with the use of the widely spread Internet instead of VAN. By using Internet EDI, it is possible to reduce the high cost that came when using VAN. There would be no extra transfer cost since transmission will be done through the Internet. Also, electronic commerce that is mostly used today between an individual and a company may grow to become a true electronic commerce between companies.

A Study on the Policy of the technical manpower of Small and medium SW companies in the Digital Convergence (디지털 융합시대 중소 SW기업 기술인력의 안정적 확보 정책 연구)

  • Due to COVID-19, non-face-to-face cultures such as remote classes, remote work, and tele-medicine are spreading. The major contributors to the settlement of such a non-face-to-face society are small and medium SW companies and SW manpower. However, recently as large platform companies and foreign big tech companies hire thousands of SW manpower, SW small and medium-sized companies are experiencing a serious manpower shortage. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to suggest policy alternatives for SMEs to stably secure SW manpower and support continuous business operation. To achieve this purpose, this study examines the current status of the SW industry and manpower, then summarizes related issues and suggests policy alternatives to solve these issues. Those policies include the reinforcement of incentives to support manpower retention such as the Naeil Chaeum deduction system, youth housing union composition, special military service system, recruitment of manpower through the contract semester system of employment conditions, reinforcement of customized education through supplementation of the SW manpower training voucher system, SW field skill standardization, establishment of a governance system for nurturing SW manpower, preparation of countermeasures against the outflow of manpower to large companies, and a win-win cooperation program for large and SME SW manpower.

ASYMPTOTIC MAXIMUM PACKET SWITCH THROUGHPUT UNDER NONUNIFORM TRAFFIC

  • Packet switch is a key component in high speed digital networks. This paper investigates congestion phenomena in the packet switching with input buffers. For large value of switch size N, mathematical models have been developed to analyze asymptotic maximum switch throughput under nonuniform traffic. Simulation study has also been done for small values of finite N. The rapid convergence of the switch performance with finite switch size to asymptotic solutions implies that asymptotic analytical solutions approximate very closely to maximum throughputs for reasonably large but finite N. Numerical examples show that non-uniformity in traffic pattern could result in serious degradation in packet switch performance, while the maximum switch throughput is 0.586 when the traffic load is uniform over the output trunks. Window scheduling policy seems to work only when the traffic is relatively uniformly distributed. As traffic non-uniformity increases, the effect of window size on throughput is getting mediocre.

A Field Study on the Present Situation, Tasks and Policies of E-business in Kangwon Province (강원지역 e-비즈니스 현황과 발전과제)

  • This paper is focused on the e-business level in Kangwon Province by industries, volumes, employees comparing with nation wide survey output, and analysis of the tasks and problems of e-business in environment, infrastructure, process, manpower, effect. Poor level of Kangwon province was identified. It is important that role clarity and cooperation among central goverment, Kangwon province, large enterprises and small and medium enterprises. Local goverment and regional cities and counties should play a centripetal role of the regional enterprises, and faithfully execute the support policies of the central goverment, and make the unique supporting climate of coopration between the university and enterprises in consideration with situations of each regional characteristics. More specifically, there are widening the infrastructure of e-business for regional enterprises, strenthening educatin and public relation of the electronic commerce, supporting and utilizing the electronic ccommerce research center. Also, fund supporting for SOHO is desirable in consideration of the poor Kangwon land and population, and to enhence the electronic commerce technology of the Kangwon enterprises, relative importance of policy of it is incresing. In conclusion, indices of Kangwon province in all areas of the survey is appeared poor. So efficient and effective policies is needed in each central and regional goverment. To promote Kangwon enterprises, investment in e-business commerce should be expanded.

The Effects of Internal Marketing Activities by Contracted Food Service Management Company (위탁급식전문업체의 내부마케팅 전략에 관한 효과분석)

  • The purpose of this study were to a) clarify the current practice of internal marketing by contracted food service management companies, b) analyze the effectiveness of current internal marketing practices. The survey was conducted between October 12 and November 2, 2002 with the 10 contracted food service management companies; 6 large, and 4 small & medium sized companies. No significant difference was existed with the categories of internal marketing. However significant differences were existed with the service education, sanitary education, periodic interviews, rewards for best employees, incentive payments, paid -leave allowances, job function allowances, and position classes including unit manager, dietician and cook of MBO. The actual administration of internal marketing strategies showed that, the significant differences were existed with education, paid-leave, and employee welfare systems among position classes. Also the significant differences were existed with all categories of internal marketing between large and small & medium sized companies. In general, small & medium sized companies score of the internal marketing performance was lower than that of large sized companies. Therefore, the segmented internal marketing strategies depending on the analysis not only demand for employees but also the size of company, were required to be an effectively and efficiently managed contracted food management companies.
