예비교사 교육과정에 대한 한국어교사의 인식 (An analysis on teachers' perception on the education curriculum for prospective Korean language teachers)

  • Since the enactment of the "Framework Act on the Korean Language (herein after "Act ), researchers have focused their studies on measuring whether the Act played a huge role in providing Korean education. This can be confirmed by many, that the Act has indeed played a huge part in providing Korean language education. However, little attention was given to the validity of the education curriculum for prospective Korean language teachers as provided by the Act. Therefore, this survey has been conducted to provide an insight to teachers' perception of the Korean language curriculum for prospective teachers and will test whether such perception meets the standards in which the Act has been enacted. In this survey, we have received response on the importance of each domain and subject in the areas of Korean language education as viewed by the Korean language teachers. The results revealed the importance in the following order: Teaching Practice, Korean Linguistics, Korean Educational Linguistics, General Linguistics, and Korean Culture. These results strongly suggest that there is a need for the current curriculum, laid out by the Act, to be reconsidered to stress different levels of importance and time assignment for each category. The survey analysis shows the disparity in importance within the curriculum between the Act and the views in which the Korean language teachers perceive Korean language education. While further research is needed to confirm the analysis of this survey, this area of research will be instrumental in determining the suggestive shapes of the curriculum governed by the Act in the years to come.

단축 한글 입력 시스템 소프트웨어 개발 (Software Development for Compact Korean Input System)

  • 현대 사회에서 많은 전자시스템은 정보의 표현과 전달을 위해 여러 문자 입력 시스템을 사용하고 있다. 문자 입력 시스템 중 한글을 입력하기 위한 시스템으로는 키보드, 휴대폰의 12개의 버튼 등이 있다. 그러나 이러한 시스템은 신체적으로 부자유한 지체 장애인에게는 12개 이상의 버튼을 이용한 한글 입력에 어려움이 있다. 본 논문에서 지체 장애인이 쉽게 한글을 입력할 수 있는 시스템 개발에 앞서 한글 연상 기법을 이용한 장애인 한글 입력 소프트웨어를 개발하였다. 본 논문의 시스템은 5개의 한글입력 버튼과 2개의 기능버튼을 가지며 한글연상 기법을 이용하여 한글을 입력한다. 본 시스템은 한글 연상 기법을 사용하여 지체 장애인이 쉽게 사용할 수 있고 소아의 한글 학습에 효율적이다.

CMC기반의 영어학습 환경에서 상호작용 촉진을 위한 교수설계가 영어학습에 미치는 효과 : 교양 영작문 과목을 중심으로 (A Study on the Effectiveness of the Instructional Design for Further Interaction on English Learning in a CMC Based Language Learning Environment: Focusing on University General English Education)

  • The purpose of this study is to determine the effects of CMC-based English learning. In this study, CMC components were found to provide circumstances of facilitating interactions between student-student and student-student-teacher, which enabled students to accomplish language learning tasks. Findings of this study are as follows: First, CMC based language learning experience helps students have positive attitudes toward their English language learning. Second, student-student-instructor interaction group outperformed other groups in academic achievement and class activity participation. Third, cooperative learning groups more actively participated in the class activity than the individual learning group resulting in better academic performances. These findings supported the fact that cooperative learning with CMC components are useful in bringing more class participation and positive attitude that were believed to foster language learning than other groups in traditional language learning environments. This study suggests that the instructor needs to use instructional design strategies helpful to facilitate active interactions between instructors and students in order to achieve better effectiveness of English learning in a CMC based learning environment.

  • According to Post-modernists including deconstructivists, as Modernism is changed into Post-modernism, the paradigm is shifted from consciousness to language. The paradigm of consciousness corresponds to representational language, and the paradigm of language to self-referential one. In post-modern age most of architects are wandering what kind of language architecture is. Some theorists contend that architecture is representational, and others that it is self-referential. Allan Colquhoun, who is known as one of the best architectural theorists inUnited States, accepts both the former and the latter, but fails to reveal the meaning and the limitation, of the two languages. Although he believes that the representational language of architecture ('figure') is the source of self-referential language of architecture('form'), he never clearly answers what kind of language architecture. In order to overcome the limitation and the meaning of Colquhoun's figure and form, and synthesize the two language, this essay appropriates Martin Heidegger's some concepts, 'ready-to-hand,' 'present-at-hand' and 'being-in-the-world' to make a theoretical framework for 'image' which prevails over and synthesizes 'form' and 'figure.' Since Image is based upon both 'being-in-the world' and 'ready-to-hand,' it is the source of 'form' and 'figure.' When 'image' is fragmented, the former and the latter emerge. Image is therefore both the former and the latter because it represents and self-refers a world as a reality.

  • 위성 개발 및 운영의 주체가 달라서 이중으로 소모되는 에너지를 줄이기 위해 공통지상 시스템의 통합 개발이 절실히 필요하다. 위성의 개발, 시험, 통합, 발사, 궤도 운영, 임무 수행의 전주기를 아우르는 공통지상시스템을 개발하기 위해서는 모든 단계에서 사용될 수 있는 언어를 개발해야 한다. 이를 위해 위성 시험운영언어의 유럽표준인 PLUTO와 가장 대표적인 언어중 하나인 STOL과 ELISA 및 PIL과 현재 항공우주연구원 AIT의 위성 시험 언어인 ATS와 지상국 운영시스템인 MCE를 자세히 분석하고, 이를 토대로 통합 절차서 언어 개발을 위한 설계 요건들을 제안한다.

반성적 마이크로티칭과 비원어민 예비 영어 교사의 외국어 교수 불안감 (An analysis of nonnative English teacher trainees' foreign language teaching anxiety in reflective microteaching course)

  • The present data-driven study attempted to explicate nonnative English teacher trainees' foreign language teaching anxiety in microteaching settings from their perspectives. It is assumed that nonnative English teachers or teacher trainees may experience anxiety not only as foreign language learners but also as foreign language teachers. In order to inquire into their anxiety, the researcher had 172 teacher trainees perform extended microteaching tasks and reflect on their teaching and anxiety through group discussion. Based on the analysis of their discussion, three aspects related to nonnative English teacher trainees' anxiety were identified. First, teacher trainees identified three main types of anxiety-provoking situations: communicative-competence-threatening situations, unexpected situations, and instruction-hindering situations. Second, they identified three sources of anxiety: limited ability to use English, lack of English teaching skills, and fear of criticism. Third, they were aware that they used diverse strategies to lower anxiety before and while teaching for different purposes. From their identification and awareness of anxiety-provoking situations, sources of anxiety, and anxiety-lowering strategies, they could reflect on professional qualifications as a foreign language teacher.

한국어교육 연구방법론에 대한 동향분석 -양적연구를 중심으로- (An Analysis on Research Trends in Korean Language Education: Focusing on Quantitative Research Methods)

  • The purpose of this study is to classify research methods used in Korean language education studies with a focus on identifying how and what quantitative research methods are utilized in these studies. Analyzing articles published in the Journal of Korean Language Education from 2005 to 2016, we found a trend that as a replacement for secondary research, primary research played a more prominent role after 2010, as the number of quantitative studies and studies using mixed methods increased. We also found that within quantitative studies of Korean language education, research themes and statistical analyses became diversified after 2010. In order for quantitative research to contribute continuously to Korean language education, the quality of research has to improve. In particular, quantitative researchers in this area should: (a) increase their general understanding of statistical methods, (b) conduct "power analysis" to determine the appropriate sample size for hypothesis testing, and (c) be aware of measurement issues such as measurement equivalence and DIF when measuring latent psychological constructs. It is also important to notice that these points above should be considered carefully in the planning and designing stage for researchers.

한국인과 중국인 예비 한국어 교사 대상 채점자 교육 사례 (A Case Study on Rater Training for Pre-service Korean Language Teacher of Native Speakers and Chinese Speakers)

  • This study pointed out the reality that many novice Korean language teachers who lack rater training are scoring the learners' writing skill. The study performed and analyzed a case where pre-service teachers were educated in order to explore the possibility of promoting rater training in a Korean language teacher training course. The pre-service teachers majoring in Korean language education at the graduate school scored TOPIK compositions and were provided feedback by the FACETS program, which were further discussed at the rater meeting. In three scoring processes, the raters scored with conscious of own rating patterns and showed positive change or over correction due to excessive consciousness. Consequentially, ongoing training can improve rating ability, and considering the fact that professional rater training is hard to progress, the method composed of FACETS analysis and rater training revealed positive effects. On the other hand, the rater training including native Korean and non-native(Chinese) speakers together showed no significant difference by mother tongue but by individual difference. This can be interpreted as a positive implication to the rating reliability of non-native speakers possessing advanced Korean language abilities. However, this must be supplemented through extended research.

Whitman's Strategy of Cultural Independence through Reterritorialization and Deterritorialization

  • Culture as a source of identity, as Edward Said says, can be a battleground on which various political and ideological causes engage one another. It is not mere individual cultivation or private possession, but a program for social cohesion. Sensitively aware that a national culture should be independent from Europe, Walt Whitman enacts a new form of literature by placing different cultural values against Old World tradition. His interest in autochthonous culture originates from his deep concern about national consciousness. He believes that literary taste directed toward highly-ornamented elite culture is an obstacle to cultural unification of a nation. In order to represent American culture of the common people, Whitman incorporates a lot of cultural material into his poetry. Since he believes that America has many respectable writers at home, he urges people to adjust to their own taste instead of running after foreign authors. Whitman differentiated his poetry from previous literary models by disrupting the established literary norms and reconfiguring cultural values on the basis of American ways of life. In his comment on other poets, he concentrates on the originality and nativity of poetry. By claiming that words have characteristics of nativity, independence, and individuality, he envisions American literature to be distinguished from British literature in literary materials as well as in language. Whitman s language is composed of a vast number of words that can fully portray the nation. He works over language materials in two ways: reterritorialization and deterritorialization. Not only does his literary language become subversive of the established literary language, but also makes it possible to express strength and intensity in feeling.

Focus and Particle Constructions

  • This paper concerns the issue related to the focus phenomena with a particular reference to the two alternating orders (continuous vs. discontinuous orders) in particle constructions in English. To explain the alternation of word order in particle constructions, I will argue that the choice of word order is closely related to the focus property of the object DPs. Following Drubig (2003), I will assume that focus-feature is taken to be a syntactic feature assigned freely to a lexical head in the process of the mapping into Lexical Array (LA) from the lexicon (LEX). I argue that the focus-marked object DP cannot move out of its focus domain and thus the continuous order is derived. In the case of non-focus-marked object DP, however, the object DP moves out of VP in order to receive an appropriate interpretation. As a result, the discontinuous order is derived.
