  • As increase awareness of intelligent vehicle systems, many kinds of lane detection algorithm have been proposed. General boundary extraction method can bring good result in detection of lane on the road. But a shadow on the road, or other boundaries, such as horizontal lines can be detected. The method using morphological operations was used to extract information about Lane. By applying HSV color model for color information of lane, the candidate of the lane can be extracted. In this paper, the lane detection region was set by Hough transformation using the candidate of the lane. By extracting lane markings on the lane detection region, lane detection method can bring good result.

  • This paper propose a new detection method of curve lane using Catmull-Rom spline for recognition various shape of the curve lane. To improve the accracy of lane detection, binarization and thinning process are firstly performed on the input image. Next, features on the curve lane such as curvature and orientation are extracted, and the control points of Catmull-Rom spline are detected to recognize the curve lane. Finally, Computer simulation results are given using a natural test image to show the efficiency of the proposed scheme.

  • In this paper, we propose a robust curved lane marking detection method. Several lane detection methods have been proposed, however most of them have considered only straight lanes. Compared to the number of straight lane detection researches, less number of curved-lane detection researches has been investigated. This paper proposes a new curved lane detection and tracking method which is robust to various illumination conditions. First, the proposed methods detect straight lanes using a robust road feature image. Using the geometric relation between a vehicle camera and the road plane, several circle models are generated, which are later projected as curved lane models on the camera images. On the top of the detected straight lanes, the curved lane models are superimposed to match with the road feature image. Then, each curve model is voted based on the distribution of road features. Finally, the curve model with highest votes is selected as the true curve model. The performance and efficiency of the proposed algorithm are shown in experimental results.

  • In this paper, we present a robust method for detecting other vehicles from n forward-looking CCD camera in a moving vehicle. This system uses edge and shape information to detect other vehicles. The algorithm consists of three steps: lane detection, ehicle candidate generation, and vehicle verification. First after detecting a lane from the template matching method, we divide the road into three parts: left lane, front lane, and right lane. Second, we set the region of interest (ROI) using the lane position information and extract a vehicle candidate from the ROI. Third, we use local orientation coding (LOC) edge image of the vehicle candidate as input to a pretrained neural network for vehicle recognition. Experimental results from highway scenes show the robustness and effectiveness of this method.

  • A new lane detection algorithm is proposed for the analysis of DNA fingerprints from a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) gel electrophoresis image. Although several research results have been previously reported, it is still challenging to extract lanes precisely from images having abrupt background brightness difference and bent lanes. We propose an edge based algorithm for calculating the average lane width and lane cycle. Our method adopts sub-pixel algorithm for extracting rising-edges and falling edges precisely and estimates the lane width and cycle by using k-means clustering algorithm. To handle the curved lanes, we partition the gel image into small portions, and track the lane centers in each partitioned image. 32 gel images including 534 lanes are used to evaluate the performance of our method. Experimental results show that our method is robust to images having background difference and bent lanes without any preprocessing.

  • Signalized intersection analysis using lane groups often generalizes distinct characteristics of individual lanes. An individual lane level analysis procedure is proposed. The method can assess individual lane LOS without additional data collection efforts. Analysis results of the proposed method were compared with the current HCM analysis results and outputs of aaSIDRA, which can calculate intersection performance lane-by-lane. The results showed individual lane analysis mostly produces similar results with HCM and aaSIDRA. However, lane analysis results for permitted left lanes showed some differences with aaSIRDRA due to the different method of assessing saturation flow rate of the permitted left turn movement. It is expected that the proposed method could complement the weaknesses of current HCM signalized intersection analysis.

  • A real-time precise positioning is possible with GPS carrier phase measurements with efficient integer ambiguity resolution techniques. It is known that more reliable and fast integer ambiguity resolution is possi-ble as the number of measurements increases. Most precise positioning systems use dual frequency measurements and the wide-lnae technique to resolve integer ambiguity. The wide-lane technique magnifies the measurement noise while it reduces the number of candidates to be examined. In this paper a new integer ambiguity resolution method using dual frequency is proposed The proposed method utilizes the relationship between the wide-lane single frequency and the narrow-lane ambiguities to resolve narrow-lane integer ambiguity after fixing the wide-lane integer ambiguity. Experiments with real data show that the proposed method gives fast and reliable results.

  • PURPOSES : The purpose of this paper is to analyze the change in lane reflection performance through lane washing and sweeping on highway lanes. METHODS : This paper compared and analyzed the changes in lane reflection performance before and after lane washing and sweeping. The research method was as follows. First, we selected four research sites on the Gyeong-bu Highway. Second, the parameters affecting lane reflection performance are classified into luminance, brightness, and number of glass beads. Third, the change in reflection performance was measured after washing /sweeping at the same place after studying 60m of the unwashed/unswept area. Fourth, the measurement results were compared and analyzed before and after lane washing/sweeping. RESULTS : The results of this study are as follows. First, lane washing improved the luminance and brightness by 4.2~21.4% and 1.4~5.1%, respectively, and reduced the number of glass beads per wash by 0.2~1.2%. Second, lane sweeping improved the luminance and brightness by 2.3~8.5% and 0.8~2.3%, respectively, and reduced the number of glass beads per sweep by 0.8~4.9%. CONCLUSIONS : By comparing the results of lane washing and sweeping, it was found that compared to lane sweeping, lane washing improved the luminance and fewer glass beads were dropped.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel method for real-time lane detection that is robust for inclined roads and not require a camera parameter, the Inverse Perspective Transform of the image, and the proposed lane filter. After finding the vanishing point from the start frame of the image and storing the region surrounding the vanishing point as the Template Area(TA), our method predict the lanes by scanning toward the lower part from the vanishing point of the image and obtain the image removed the perspective effect using the Inverse Perspective Transform coefficients extracted based on the predicted lanes. To robustly determine lanes on inclined roads, the region surrounding the vanishing point is set up as the template area (TA), and, by recalculating the vanishing point by tracing the area similar to the TA (SA) in the input image through template matching, it responds to the changes on the road conditions. The proposed method for a more robust lane detection method for inclined roads is a lane detection method by applying a lane detection filter on an image removed of the perspective effect. Through this method, the processing region is reduced and the processing procedure is simplified to produce a satisfactory lane detection result of about 40 frames per second.

  • PURPOSES : This research is to evaluate the effects of zig-zag marking. METHODS : Based on the literature review, This research adopt Comparison Group method which was developed by Hauer. RESULTS : The findings are as follows. Effectiveness of treatment at all site 1.06, intersection 0.92, median bus lane 1.93, school zone 0.50, below 6-lane 0.48, above 6-lane 1.19, cat vs person 0.57, car vs car 1.36, car only 1.29. CONCLUSIONS : Though the analysis, it was founded that zig-zag marking on the small scale road(below 6-lane) and school zone contribute to reduce traffic accidents(effectiveness of the treatment : 0.50, 0.48). But the accidents at large scale road and median bus lane where installed zig-zag marking demonstrated negative result.(effectiveness of the treatment indicates exceed 1.0).
