For decades, simulation technique has been well validated in areas such as computer and communication systems. Recently, the technique has been much used in the area of transportation and traffic forecasting. Several methods have been proposed for investigating complex traffic flows. However, the dynamics of vehicles and diversities of driver characteristics have never been considered sufficiently in these methods, although they are considered important factors in traffic flow analysis. In this paper, we propose a traffic simulation tool called Multi-Agent for Traffic Simulation with Vehicle Dynamics Model (MATDYMO). Road transport consultants, traffic engineers and urban traffic control center managers are expected to use MATDYMO to efficiently simulate traffic flow. MATDYMO has four sub systems: the road management system, the vehicle motion control system, the driver management system, and the integration control system. The road management system simulates traffic flow for various traffic environments (e.g., multi-lane roads, nodes, virtual lanes, and signals); the vehicle motion control system constructs the vehicle agent by using various vehicle dynamic models; the driver management system constructs the driver agent capable of having different driving styles; and lastly, the integrated control system regulates the MATDYMO as a whole and observes the agents running in the system. The vehicle motion control system and driver management system are described in the companion paper. An interrupted and uninterrupted flow model were simulated, and the simulation results were verified by comparing them with the results from a commercial software, TRANSYT-7F. The simulation result of the uninterrupted flow model showed that the driver agent displayed human-like behavior ranging from slow and careful driving to fast and aggressive driving. The simulation of the interrupted flow model was implemented as two cases. The first case analyzed traffic flow as the traffic signals changed at different intervals and as the turning traffic volume changed. Second case analyzed the traffic flow as the traffic signals changed at different intervals and as the road length changed. The simulation results of the interrupted flow model showed that the close relationship between traffic state change and traffic signal interval.
Currently, cross-section design can not reflect highway function and traffic volume, various construction. This research paper provides analysis of traffic accident type, improvement of traffic operation and safety, assessment for new cross-section standards of two-lane highway. Research show higher accident rate on 6$\sim$8.9m road than 9$\sim$12.9m road width in two-lane highway. Typical improvement is widening on lane and shoulder width. Simulation show large increase on 6$\sim$7m road delay-time in 1,200vph. In contrast 10$\sim$11.5m road shows slight change on delay-time. This research paper provides various cross-section construction by traffic volume in minor arterial and distributor two-lane highway. The new cross-section design provides adopting highway volume, various construction and flexibility.
Conventional lane detection algorithms have problems in that the detection rate is lowered in road environments having a large change in curvature and illumination. The probabilistic Hough transform method has low lane detection rate since it exploits edges and restrictive angles. On the other hand, the method using a sliding window can detect a curved lane as the lane is detected by dividing the image into windows. However, the detection rate of this method is affected by road slopes because it uses affine transformation. In order to detect lanes robustly and avoid obstacles, we propose driving assist system using semantic segmentation based on deep learning. The architecture for segmentation is SegNet based on VGG-16. The semantic image segmentation feature can be used to calculate safety space and predict collisions so that we control a vehicle using adaptive-MPC to avoid objects and keep lanes. Simulation results with CARLA show that the proposed algorithm detects lanes robustly and avoids unknown obstacles in front of vehicle.

The validity of simulation has been well-established for decades in areas such as computer and communication system. Recently, the technique has become entrenched in specific areas such as transportation and traffic forecasting. Several methods have been proposed for investigating complex traffic flows. However, the dynamics of vehicles and their driver's characteristics, even though it is known that they are important factors for any traffic flow analysis, have never been considered sufficiently. In this paper, the traffic simulation using a multi-agent approach with considering vehicle dynamics is proposed. The multi-agent system is constructed with the traffic environment and the agents of vehicle and driver. The traffic environment consists of multi-lane roads, nodes, virtual lanes, and signals. To ensure the fast calculation, the agents are performed on the based of the rules to regulate their behaviors. The communication frameworks are proposed for the agents to share the information of vehicles' velocity and position. The model of a driver agent which controls a vehicle agent is described in the companion paper. The vehicle model contains the nonlinear subcomponents of engine, torque converter, automatic transmission, and wheels. The simulation has proceeded for an interrupted and uninterrupted flow model. The result has shown that the driver agent performs human-like behavior ranging from slow and careful to fast and aggressive driving behavior, and that the change of the traffic state is closely related with the distance and the signal delay between intersections. The system developed shows the effectiveness and the practical usefulness of the traffic simulation.

This paper develops a 3 DOF vehicle model which includes lateral, roll and yaw motion to study a 4WS vehicle. The model is used for the simulation of a 4WS vehicle behavior, and to derive a control algorithm for rear wheel steering. This paper uses a feedforward plus feedback control scheme to compute a rear wheel steering angle. The feedforward control scheme for computing the first rear wheel steering angle uses a gain which is acquired by multiplying a proper value on a gain to maintain a zero sideslip angle. The feedback control scheme for computing the second rear wheel steering angle uses fuzzy logic and model following control scheme. A linear 2 DOF model is used as a reference model for model following control, and is derived from the developed 3 DOF model by neglecting sprung mass roll motion. A reference state variable is yaw rate, and is computed using the linear 2 DOF model. J-turn and lane change maneuver simulation are performed to show the effectiveness of the developed control scheme. The simulation results show that the 4WS vehicle with the developed control scheme has much better performance in yaw rate, lateral acceleration, roll angle, and sideslip angle than the 2WS vehicle. Also, the results show that the performance of the developed control is close to the one of an optimal control which assumes all states are perfect.
As automotive industry develops, the demand for increasing traffic safety is growing. Lots of researches about vehicle convenience and safety technology have been implemented. Now, the autonomous driving test is being conducted all over the world, and the autonomous driving regulations are also being developed. Autonomous vehicles are being commercialized, but autonomous vehicle safety has not been guaranteed yet. This paper presents scenarios that assess the safety of autonomous vehicles by identifying the minimum requirements to ensure safety for a variety of situations on highway. In assessing driving safety, seven scenarios were totally selected. Seven scenarios were related to lane keeping and lane change performance in certain situations. These scenarios were verified by analyzing the driving data acquired through actual vehicle driving. Data analysis was implemented via computer simulation. These scenarios are developed based on existing ADAS evaluation and simulation of autonomous vehicle algorithm. Also Safety evaluation factors are developed based on ISO requirements, other papers and the current traffic regulations.
In this research, an effective technique was examined to improve the drift running performance. Concretely, the driver model by which the counter steer was done was assumed to the model by which the vehicle body slip angle (and the vehicle body slip angle velocity) was feed back. Next, the effectiveness of the system which added the assist steer angle corresponding to the steering wheel angle velocity to a front wheel steer angle was clarified as a drift running performance improvement technique of the vehicle. As a result, because the phase advances when the differentiation steer assistance is added, it has been understood to be able to cover the delay of the counter steer when the drift running. Therefore, it has been understood that the drift control does considerably easily. Moreover, it has been understood that the differentiation steer assistance acts effectively at the drift cornering by which the drift angle is maintained in cornering and the severe lane change with a drift at a situation. That is, it was understood to be able to settle to the drift angle of the aim quickly at the time of the drift cornering because the delay of the control steer angle of the counter steer was improved. Moreover, it was understood for the transient overshoot of the vehicle tracks to be able to decrease, and to return to the state of stability quickly at the severe lane change.

In Korea, interest in truck platooning is increasing because most cargo transportation is done by road. Truck platooning is the operation of two or more trucks in a row to form one platoon, which can increase road capacity and improve fuel efficiency. In this study, to analyze the effect of truck platooning on traffic flow, scenarios were created according to traffic conditions and truck platooning operating conditions. In order to understand the effect of the truck platooning operating conditions, correlation analysis was conducted with the average travel speed, the number of lane change disturbance, and the number of disturbance in the entry/exit section. As a result, the number of trucks in the platoon, the spacing of trucks in the platoon, and the spacing between platoons were found to have an effect on the average speed and the number of lane change disturbance In addition, the truck platooning ratio was found to have a strong correlation with the average travel speed and the number of lane change disturbance regardless of the LOS.

In this reaserch, a program for real time simulation of a vehicle is developed. This program uses relative coordinates to save the computation time and BDF(Backward Difference Formula) to integrate system variables. Numerical tests were performed for J-turn and Lane change steering, respectively. The validity of the program is proved by the ADAMS package. Numerical results showed that the proposed implicit method is more stable in carrying out the numerical integration for vehicle dynamics than the explicit method. Hardware requirements for real time simulation are suggested.

Increased bus traffic leads inefficiency at near-side bus stops in median exclusive bus lane because buses are waiting for a signal does not have a vehicle arrived. This study suggests a method for estimating a proper spacing between bus stops and signalized intersection to prevent the inefficiency. We modified the Poisson model for a proper spacing by using both dwell time and waiting time of signal instead of using dwell time only. The waiting time of signal changes by spacing and it was measured using micro simulation program. The iterative algorithm using the change of waiting time of signal was also suggested. By applying the proposed method, measure waiting time by simulation and iterative algorithm, the spacing of near-side bus stops, proper spacing is suggested according to flow rate level.
