  • For the fatigue design of aircraft landing gear, the safe-life approach is applied. Structural defects such as cracks or detrimental deformations should not occur under the fatigue load spectrum depicting the entire lifetime usage of the aircraft. In the design phase, the fatigue life of the landing gear is estimated analytically by adopting the stress-based approach because the fatigue of aircraft landing gear is generally high-cycle fatigue. This utilizes S-N curves that are factored to produce design curves that account for the scatter and surface finish of the material. In the test and evaluation phases, a fatigue test should be conducted for full-scale landing gear to substantiate the fatigue design requirement in the end. In this study, the procedure for the fatigue test and evaluation of aircraft landing gear is presented with real application cases.

  • The soft landing of a lunar lander after the entrance of lunar orbit is an essential prerequisite for the accomplishment of the lander's lunar mission. During the landing process of a lunar lander, efficient shock absorption and stability maintenance are indispensible technology to protect payloads. Therefore, the landing gear is a crucial structural component of a lunar lander, it has to absorb the kinetic energy associated with touchdown and support the static load of the landing module in an upright position. In this paper, various landing gears of lunar landers which are being developed as well as which had been successfully landed on the moon surface are investigated. In the end, the Korean lunar lander, which is being designed for preliminary development model, is presented as an example of the lunar lander development.

  • In this study, the lower limbs joints were analyzed for features based on the biomechanical characteristics of landing techniques according to height and landing on the ground type (flats and downhill). In order to achieve the objectives of the study, changes were analyzed in detail contents such as the height and form of the first landing on the ground at different angles of joints, torso and legs, torso and legs of the difference in the range of angular motion of the joint, the maximum angular difference between joints, the lower limbs joints difference between the maximum moment and the difference between COM changes. The subjects in this study do not last six months did not experience joint injuries 10 males in 20 aged were tested. Experimental tools to analyze were the recording and video equipment. Samsung's SCH-650A model camera was used six units, and the 2 GRF-based AMTI were used BP400800 model. 6-unit-camera synchronized with LED (photo cell) and Line Lock system were used. the output from the camera and the ground reaction force based on the data to synchronize A/D Syc. box was used. To calculate the coordinates of three-dimensional space, $1m{\times}3m{\times}2m$ (X, Y, Z axis) to the size of the control points attached to the framework of 36 markers were used, and 29 where the body was taken by attaching a marker to the surface. Two kinds of land condition, 40cm and 60cm in height, and ground conditions in the form of two kinds of flat and downhill slopes ($10^{\circ}$) of the landing operation was performed and each subject's 3 mean two-way RM ANOVA in SPSS 18.0 was used and this time, all the significant level was set at a=.05. Consequently, analyzing the landing technique as land form and land on the ground, the changes of external environmental factors, and the lower limbs joints' function in the evaluation were significantly different from the slopes. Landing of the slop plane were more load on the joints than landing of plane. Especially, knee extensor moment compared to the two kinds of landing, slopes plane were approximately two times higher than flat plane, and it was statistical significance. Most of all not so much range of motion and angular velocity of the shock to reduce stress was important. In the further research, front landing as well as various direction of motion of kinetic, kinetic factors and EMG variables on lower limbs joints of the study in terms of injury-prevention-approach is going to be needed.

  • This paper presents fatigue analysis of helideck structures located in FPSO. After FPSO is moved to the target position where production of resource is performed, FPSO stays at the target position and performs production of resource, storage and off-loading during the design life. Helideck structure is located in FPSO essentially for the movement of personnel and life rescue at emergency situations by using helicopters. Because inertial load induced by FPSO motion and landing and taking-off load of helicopter occur at helideck structures cyclically, helideck structures should be designed to withstand fatigue loads. Therefore, The fatigue assessment of helideck structures should be performed with fatigue loads. Effect of stress concentration due to misalignment between welded plates is considered in fatigue assessment additionally.

  • The underwater structures of landing pier are not easy to access and it is difficult to check the damage. Lately, typhoons and earthquakes have occurred frequently, which may cause damage to underwater structures of landing pier. In this study, to prevent collapse of underwater structures and to maintain systematically, the application method of FBG sensors and safety evaluation methods were studied. In order to confirm the application of the FBG sensor to the circular steel pipe used as a pile on the landing pier, we conducted laboratory tests and confirmed that the FBG sensor should be applied by welding. As a result of structural analysis of the landing pier structure, the optimal position of FBG sensor confirmed. The stresses on the dead load were calculated by structural analysis, the stresses on the live load were calculated by using the data obtained from the FBG sensor, and then the stress acting on the pile was calculated by adding the two stresses. The calculated stress was compared with the allowable stress to evaluate the safety of the pile. This study was carried out as a basic study to find a way to evaluate the safety of the landing pier in real time.

  • Two-dimensional and three-dimensional finite element methods have been used to analyze the deformation behavior of a shadow mask due to thermal and tension load. The shadow mask inside the Braun tube of a TV set has numerous slits through which the electron beams are guided to land on the designed phosphor of red, green or blue. Its thermal deformation therefore causes landing shift of the electron beam and results in decolorization of a screen. For the realistic finite element analysis, the effective thermal conductivity and the effective elastic modulus arc calculated, and then the shadow mask is modeled as shell without slits. Next a transient thermal analysis of the shadow mask is performed, wherein thermal radiation is a major heat transfer mechanism. Analysis of the resulting thermal deformation is followed, from which the landing shift of the electron beam is obtained. The present finite element scheme may be efficiently used to reduce thermal deformation of a shadow mask and in developing prototypes of a large screen flat TV.

  • Multicopter-type unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) are increasingly for cargo transportation to mountainous and island regions, image information acquisition in disaster areas, and emergency rescue transport. In order to successfully perform these tasks, the aircraft structure must be able to safely support the loads induced by flight conditions while ensuring the vibration and aeroelastic stability of the prop-rotor. This study introduced a structural analysis model of a 40kg payload multicopter with an engine-generator hybrid power system. The deformation and stress distribution are investigated depending on the load conditions. In addition, the vibration characteristics and aeroelastic stability of the prop-rotor were also presented to flight speed and aircraft pitch angle. The maximum thrust generated by the prop-rotor and the landing load applied to the multicopter under normal and emergency landing conditions were reviewed., It confirmed that the structure could support without failure. In addition, it confirmed that the damping characteristics of each primary locate in the constant region according to the aircraft's flight speed and the prop-rotors rotating speed.

  • The performance estimation of a landing gear with uncertain parameters is presented. In actual use, many parameters can have certain degrees of variations that affect the energy absorbing performance. For example, the shock strut gas pressure, oil volume, tire pressure, and temperature can deviate from their nominal values. The objective function in this study is the ground reaction during touchdown, which is a function of the abovementioned parameters and time. To consider the uncertain properties, convex modeling and interval analysis are used to calculatethe objective function. The numerical results show that the ground reaction characteristics are quite different from those of the deterministic method. The peak load, which affects the efficiency and structural integrity, is increases considerably when the uncertainties are considered. Therefore, it is important to consider the uncertainties, and the proposed methodology can serve as an efficient method to estimate the effect of such uncertainties.

  • A finite element analysis for the wing and landing gear of a composite target-drone air vehicle was performed. For the wing analysis, two load cases were considered: a 5g symmetric pull-up and a -1.5g symmetric push-over. For the landing gear analysis, a sinking velocity of 1.4 m/s at a 2g level landing condition was taken into account. MSC/NASTRAN and LS-DYNA were utilized for the static and dynamic analyses, respectively. Finite element results were verified by the static test of a prototype wing under a 6g symmetric pull-up condition. The test showed a 17% larger wing tip deflection than the finite element analysis. This difference is believed to come from the material and geometrical imperfections incurred during the manufacturing process.

  • This research work contributes to a study for the procedure and methodology to assess the fatigue durability for a composite torque link for helicopter landing gear, which was newly developed and fabricated by the resin transfer moulding technique to interchange with metal component. The simulated load spectrum anticipated to be applied to the torque link during its operation life was generated using an advanced method of probabilistic random process, and the fatigue durability was evaluated by the residual strength degradation approach on the basis of material test data. The full scale fatigue test was performed and compared with the analysis results.
